Wow. That's cheap. I paid $81 last month.

It can even play PSP games. Not all of them but quite a few.

    • +4

Yeah bought mine the last month for around $81 mostly for GBA but I find myself playing a bit of PSP on it. At the moment I can say that the following work (to my satisfaction):
Everyone's tennis (the primary PSP reason I bought for)
      Everyone golf
Splinter Cell Essentials (some weird screen visual issues but playable)
Prince of Persia Sands of Time

Of course for GBA it's great (currently Wario 4 and Dragonball Z Advance)

Paid $20 more but meh, I've had more than $20 fun with it over the last month.

Complements my RGB30 for GB, GBC, SNES and other squarer aspect games.

I actually SOLD my R36S which was my gateway device (which replaced my DOA RG35XX …which if anyone needs spare parts has a system board fault).

      • Thanks Limbot for the other deal and description.

Will be trying other systems after I get over my PS1 phase… good memories playing those games for hours upon hours.

I think next up will be X-Men V SF and KOF ‘98… spents countless hours in the dingy pool hall playing those games when I should of been studying.

      • How this compare to R36S

        • +1

Much better build quality. 4.96" 16:9 screen compared with 3.5" 4:3 screen. R36s win is that it runs ARKos which is a much nicer OS than the standard OS with the TrimUI.

      • How is it compare to n3dsxl?

  • +2

Fuark that's cheap I bought another one

    • Yep, same here

  • +1

    Done x2 thx!

  • -1

Hey new to buying one of these , are all the games already included?

    • +3

If a handheld comes pre-loaded with games on an SD card its best practice to chuck it in the bin and buy your own SD and flash it yourself.
The SD cards they use are real bad quality that will have issues with saving data, and probably come with miss-named games or even in different languages, potential for spyware to be installed also.

  • Any cheap case to add ?

  • hi folks,
what's the difference between 128G and 128g [other than lower case and upper case] on the option selection, as the 128g does not change the price.
would anyone please give info? Thanks

    • +3

Don't worry about the extra card as most of these retro handhelds come with cheap, no name cards which have prone to have a very short longevity. The Trimui has its own internal memory for firmware as well. Use the $15 towards a Samsung Evo Plus @ JB HiFi. Because you can play PS and PSP on this unit I'd buy a 128GB (currently $30). Additionally the Roms that come standard are often poor quality, repeats, foreign language version, so just download and curate your own Rom collection,

  • Be careful of the cheap tempered glass screen protectors. I bought one at I think it might have been for a 5" screen rather than a 4.96" screen and couldn't get it to fit on the edges properly. Ended up with Mr Shield ones. Sadly only available in a 3 pack but then again I dropped one in the bathroom while installing which shattered and more expensive than the cheaper ones but it fits beautifully.

  • +1

128g=64G, the seller has a typo but I had a screenshot. You paid $4 extra for a system backup SD card. This SD card is a shitty non-brand as I guess.

  • +1

    I don't need more handheld console…

    • I think you do…

      • @RichardL buy now think later :P

  • What is the CPU in this, is it any better than the ANBERNIC RG35XX H?

    • +2

It's an Allwinner chip, about the same power as the chip in the RG35xxH and the RK3566 found in quite few handhelds like the X55 which has a thread here somewhere as well.

      • Thank you for the info! For some reason I did not see the specs in the screenshots.

  • +1

    Thanks jlogic and Cludo.

  • how does it compare to the rg280v

  • +1

Forgot to pay in USD but got charged AU60.92 with the coupon. 😏

Miyoo Mini V2 was way too squished for my sausage fingers.

    • What's the benefit of paying in USD?

      • +1

Avoids currency conversion spread charged by aliexpress

    • How do you change currency on AliExpress? It's much easier on eBay and I have no idea that you can do that on AliExpress.

      • It's in the top right when using browser

  • -1

Can you play original Mario on this?

    • On NES and SNES? Yes. And some N64 games

    • +1

Yes, you can pretty much play original Mario on a potato but personally I would recommend a handheld with a 4:3 aspect ratio rather than 16:9.

      • Personal opinion only and I play most of my NES, SNES on my RGB30 1:1 4" screen but if you purchase the black Trimui, the bezels aren't too obvious and the 8:7 games don't look too bad.

        • Just curious, have you had any problems with the RGB30. I purchased one and it was a piece of crap, think it is most likely a faulty battery but I wasted weeks of my time with Powkiddy support and they just wasted my time and sent me around in circles disconnecting the battery and taking it apart etc rather than just offering a replacement. Now just sits as a paperweight on my shelf which is a shame as I did like what I saw with it. Also particularly good for old classic early 80s arcade games in MAME too.

Really has put me off buying anything off Powkiddy ever again and really hoping another supplier such as Anbernic does a 1:1 console with that screen who I would feel more confident with buying from.

          • @Wuggle: I loaded ArkOS on mine as soon as I recevied it because at that time I already had a R36S running ArkOS and wanted to be able to swap the ROM card between the two. I've never had any issues as reported re battery life. Seems to me that Jelos might have been the cause not the hardware. Funnily enough the only unit I've had hardware issues with was an Anbernic 35XX which had a video glitch and lock up issue and was deemed DOA.

          • @Wuggle:

hoping another supplier such as Anbernic does a 1:1 console with that screen

            Upcoming Anbernic RG Cube

            • @RichardL: Thanks! I'd missed the announcement of that one…. definitely not going to be tempted by the Trimui, my $60 can pivot over to the RG Cube!

Thought Anbernic would let the dust settle with the RG35XXSP before announcing yet something else…. I should know better!

              • @Wuggle: Looking at the specs though with the touchscreen I suspect this may not be in their budget handheld line.

                • @Wuggle: It's an Android device, so will definately be more expensive.

Similar specs to the Anbernic RG556, so I'll suspect it would be A$200-$300.

              • @Wuggle: Aint' gonna be the same price as an RGB30 :)

                • @Limbot: Thinking more like A$200. To be honest I would have been happy with specs and price closer to the RGB30 - I want it for MAME, Gameboy, SNES etc I don't need the power for Dreamcast or Gamecube on it. Oh well, guess we'll see how it pans out.

                  • @Wuggle: Try ArkOS and see if that fixes your issues…. :)

                  • @Wuggle:

To be honest I would have been happy with specs and price closer to the RGB30

There’s A LOT of people on the reddit groups saying similar things about the RG Cube. Namely it has a square ratio screen that will for the most part do best with old handhelds, NES/SNES type content but then seems to be backing a chipset that’ll see it suited to more powerful devices that don’t suit the 1:1 screen so much and would benefit from a widescreen. Additionally the stick layout seems to preference the analogue control which again would align to consoles that generally benefit less from a 1:1 display.

I think the device looks interesting, but tend to agree with some of the comments I’m reading. Could end up being too powerful and expensive for the systems that’ll best benefit from the form factor.

                    • @RichardL: Saw the Retrocorps youtube video hands-on earlier and I was sold on it even without knowing the price.

US$159.99 is kind of in the ballpark I expected. Still a bit overpowered for what I will likely play on it but who knows, maybe will be good to have the ability to play gamecube and PS2 on it.

So now I see I have about 2 days to decide on what colour to buy…..

              • @Wuggle: Anbernic releases console faster than you can buy them haha.

Shame their software is mediocre, so you'll have to rely on custom firmwares.

          • @Wuggle: Oh and there's already the R40s :)
Though from this review not sure it'd be a step up from the Powkiddy….

            • @Limbot: Agreed that makes Powkiddy's quality look good which is scary so think I'll pass on that one.

And yes, tried ArkOS, tried pretty much everything you can think of to get my RGB30 working.Powkiddy support were pretty useless but spent days on forums seeking advice at the time but after recording Powkiddy about half a dozen videos demonstrating the problems the unit had I just gave up. Was like banging my head against a wall with their online chat support. They seemed determined not to sort out a replacement so I've become determined not to buy anything off them again and spread my bad experience with them wherever I can.

          • @Wuggle: I have heard of issues with the Powkiddy stuff but I have also heard some issues are solvable.

What is the issue with the battery?

  • Should i get this if i have modded psvita??

    • Personally with this specific handheld, I think no, although depends what you think you need it for as I have a modded vita and numerous other retro handhelds so I'm definitely not saying the vita is all you should ever need.

      • Yes very surprised vita is that powerful. And i have modded switch as well. I think i should pass on other H form factor.

        • I think you'd be better with a Miyoo Mini + or an RG35XX or RG35XXSP, ie something with a 4:3 ratio and smaller, in your pocket, form factor. I think they are more justifiable to purchase than the Trimui which I think would just feel more of the same and to be honest wouldn't compete well with the modded Vita or Switch.

          • @Wuggle: Yep thinking of that clone sp because the original gb sp second hand peice is crazy high. I have n3ds xl, and nds as well. Bought miyoo while ago but sold. I feel too small haha for my eyes not hands

      • What are you running on your Vita? I can't get mine to play PS1 or GBA smoothly.

        • You should have %100 compatibility with running PS1 games through adrenaline, just use the adrenaline bubbles Homebrew to add to home screen. Can install them easy with pkgj app over WiFi

          • @notauser: But can you install PS1 games that aren't on the pkgj app? I already have that and theres a few games like Shane Warne Cricket that are missing.

            • +1

@TrafalgarSean: You can but you need to convert the games to PSX2PSP roms, then copy into correct folder on Vita.

  • I already have a Miyoo Mini, Miyoo Mini + & a RG35XX-H.

I want this as well, it's extra tempting with AfterPay.

    • Can I ask why? Just asking because I also have several other handhelds including the ones you mention and it tempts me also but not sure really what it brings to the party? Think I'm just being tempted by the price rather than justification for what it can actually add to my life.

      • I'm assuming the main benefit would be the bigger screen.

        • Maybe, would be good for GBA but the 16:9 screen is probably a bit of a waste considering the games you would likely play on it.

Admittedly I have an Odin 2 so despite the temptation from the low price I cannot see why I need this as well other than just because its on ozbargain where we buy first and usually ask questions later.

          • @Wuggle: I also have the Odin 2 and the RG35XX H so trying to convince myself I don't need the Trimui Pro haha.

      • +2

It's a toy, it's fun to install custom firmware and set it up with RetroAchievements, SyncThing, boxart etc. But once all that is over the new toy feeling is gone and they collect dust.

I used to make fun of the people on r/SBCGaming for buying so many. $60 / 4x$15 is such a tempting price.

      • Larger screen and wide aspect ratio would seperate it from those other devices.

Also tempted and own a Miyoo Mini Plus and RG35XX H, but given PSP isn’t at the top of my list (one that benefits a lot from widescreen) I might skip. Probably better off putting my money towards something more powerful when I want to revisit more recent console gen’s.

RP4 Pro or even an Odin 2 are probably where I’d rather be.

  • -1

    Does this include games?

  • +1

One part of me is "wow this is cheap" another part of me just thinks this takes be $60 away from buying a Odin 2.

Both items I am unlikely to use much.

    • I love my Odin 2 and can highly recommend it…. even owning that I see deals like this and I am tempted by the price but I cannot see any reason I would use this over my Odin 2 so feels like a waste of money no matter how cheap it is.

    • +2

turn off your phone and go to bed. you are $60 closer

      • This was sounds advice. Never purchase handhelds past 9pm at night.

  • +1

finally a horizontal device after weeks of looking out for deals - thanks OP

  • This or RG35xx for extra $10?

    • +1

I’d take this over the RG35XX.

RG35XX H or RG35XX Plus would be contenders depending on size or form factor. Even then the Trimui is a real solid choice.

  • Anyone able to find a good deal on AliExpress for the RG35XXSP, that is the one that might tempt me…. looks like I can get one shipped for A$87.90 which might be the best at the moment off there?

    • +1

looks like I can get one shipped for A$87.90 which might be the best at the moment off there?

Also the cheapest one I could find - US$57.72 (~A$87.90) Delivered with code 'SCA4'.

It's a newly released device, so you might have to wait until the next AliExpress sale for more availability/cheaper prices.

      • I nearly purchased it on release but the forex rate was putting it around $106 or so I think at the time. Under $90 is tempting to pull the trigger though admittedly still not sure I need it but I do have an old silver Gameboy Advance SP that has seen better days so this feels like I need it as a modern day replacement of that. At least that is the best excuse I can find to buy it at the moment.

        • I do have an old silver Gameboy Advance SP that has seen better days

Same here, I also have the Silver Gameboy SP in the drawers (does need a new battery though, as the original battery doesn't hold charge anymore).

Personally, I'm waiting until the next AliExpress sale to see if the RG35XXSP drops further and/or wait and see what the Miyoo Flip has to offer (based on the A30 release, I don't have high hopes).

          • @RichardL: I've resurrected a few Gameboy Advance SP's with bad batteries… $14.49 for a replacement battery from the guy I usually buy off in VIC on Ebay. Admittedly I then never play them for more than a few minutes once you realise how much better screens are nowadays but it is nice to keep the original hardware alive.

  • Any recommendations with a slightly bigger screen? I find the switch screen small already, can't imagine gaming on a 5"

    • Not in the Trimui Smart Pro price range.

Example of devices with bigger screens:

      • Anbernic RG556 - 5.48" Screen
      • Odin 2 - 6" Screen
      • ASUS ROG Ally - 7" Screen
      • Steam Deck OLED - 7.4" Screen

Full list of handheld with screen larger than the TrimUI - Credits to Joey's Retro Handhelds

    • RichardL has some suggestions. Phone or small tablet with a gaming grip such as a Gamesir Galilei G8 might be options too.

Also maybe consider if the type of system you’d emulate would allow you to get away with a smaller device. Switch handheld contents typically going to be 720p output where you’ll be upscaling more basic titles for the most part with a sub $100 device like this. The lower resolution and blockier graphics might allow you to get away with a smaller screen than you’d use for HD content. Or maybe not.

    • It is so funny because we own a standard and one OLED switch and I find playing on those too small to enjoy games like Hades etc. Yet I'll pick up my tiny Miyoo Mini plus and play all kinds of games on it.

I'm not sure because docked mode just feels so much better for the Switch that I can't play in handheld mode much. I think if the switch had the chops to play docked mode in handheld mode maybe I'd use it more

Maybe I'm getting old but who really has time for this shit especially it's suppose to be retro and new blood don't play with this

The think is if you enjoy retro gaming these things are good for it because you can just take snapshots or turn them off and they save the game where you are at. Also you can use rewind and fast forward to save time. They are great for little bursts of gaming during idle time. Better than scrolling social media.

      • +1

Why are you linking to my shitty, turd of a deal?

I was replying to the person who said nobody has time for retro gaming, and that it was a waste of time (paraphrasing). Didn't you mean to reply to them?

        I bought the Trimui.

    • Do not get an included memory card, you'll have to buy a replacement as they are 5c SD cards that are guaranteed to fail and corrupt data.

Those types of SD cards are extremely low quality and fragile. You'll have to download the image from the manufacturer website.
