  • Is the 45mm for $149 total over $509 and the $99 41mm for $459? i dont understand this why do you need the plan can the watch not connect to the phone?

Simply so they can charge you $10pm I imagine. I had a cellular watch for a while and it was a nice novelty but I never thought I’d need it and didn’t buy one again.

      • That’s what has turned me off it.. it’s poor value for the watch sim, and you don’t really have much choice in the matter

Is this a deal ? Maybe the watch side but what about the phone ?

    • +1

Not even close to a deal. If you chose a base iPhone 15 128gb, you would be paying $93.62 (41.32 for phone + 52 for cheapest plan) per month for 36 months or $3370.32. If you add in the price of the watch and another $360 for a connected watch sim, that's an additional $460 so you'll be paying $3830.32.

You can pick up a Watch Series 9 from Jbhifi for $549 and 2x base iPhones 128gb for less than the Optus plan

I get the feeling you’ll be paying more in the long run being stuck on their plan

Of course . Optus is not stupid they think long and hard how to make this plan, to trap young people who want iphone but cant afford upfront. Its bad…

Usually thats true but sometimes you get really good deals. Samsung galaxy s10e that i am using was on deal that you get this mobile for $100 when you get Telstra $65 12 months plan. Mobile's cost was around $800. So i was getting mobile with free one year Telstra plan. I bought mobile for $100 and changed my plan to $45/month after 2 months.

Given the phone was $800 and you paid $880 in total upfront + 12 months, it was a decent deal - assuming that you couldn't have bought the mobile for a few hundred dollars less. Over 3 years though the cost of plans like this post really stacks up.

These days I usually just buy a 12 months Boost sim and buy the iPhone outright.

@Commodore64: I learnt this and since then i try to buy a mobile outright when i can find a really good deal and buy any 365 days plan for my family. Last year i bought pixel 7 for $500 from Telstra deal and $80 100gb 1 year plan for my son..my galaxy s10e is getting slow and battery doesnt last long so i have got catchconnect 365 days sim for this year and waiting for eofy mobile deals to get a new phone. You save lots of money this way.

    RIP personal data.

  • I have been offered loyalty customer offer from Optus. I got iPhone 15 Pro Max 256GB ($61.08/m) and $20 OFF monthly for 52 plan ($32 for 36months). Watch 9 41mm $12.45 for 36m. My montlhy cost is $105.53 (Total $3799.08). I was given $720 discount for plan. They also have the price match for the device. But, Optus refused it for me as the discount was already offered. If anyone doesn't want apple watch, can go at $93.08 monthly for iPhoen15 pro max.
