Can't use a cheap Ryzen 3200G. It'd do the job, but the 3000G series aren't compatible with the later 550 chipset.
So for this it'd be a Ryzen 5600GE. That's the 35W version of the Ryzen 5600G.
thank god for saying this, I almost bought this board haha, got a spare 3200G sitting around
What are you talking about???? This board aupports 3000 CPUs as stated in the suported CPUs page
Supports AMD Ryzen™ 5000 Series/ Ryzen™ 5000 G-Series/ Ryzen™ 4000 G-Series and Ryzen™ 3000 and Ryzen™ 3000 G-Series Processors
https://www.gigabyte.com/Ajax/SupportFunction/Getcpulist?Typ…
https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/B550M-K-rev-10#kf
Always check the QVA list for supported CPUs' Ram ext.. :) its so easy these days
3000G works on revision 1.1 of this board, it also works on revision 1.0 but it'll need at least BIOS F3.
Its 2024.. this board will ship with a bios that knows about the AMD 3000g CPUs
@vid_ghost: Likely but F3 was released on Jun 12, 2023
This is what the Metrocom deal page says:
"Supports AMD Ryzen™ 5000 Series/ Ryzen™ 5000 G-Series/ Ryzen™ 4000 G-Series and Ryzen™ 3000 Series Processors"That is, NOT 3000G processors?
So are we saying this is definitively wrong, that it also supports 3000G series processors?
And if it doesn't with the BIOS it comes with, how hard is it to upgrade it to a BIOS release that does? Will the non-compatible BIOS version work well enough, if not perfectly with a 3000G to do a BIOS update, or do you have to beg borrow or steal something else that is compatible to do it?
AMD Ryzen 5 5600G 6 Core 12 Thread Up To 4.4Ghz AM4 APU Retail Box - With Wraith Stealth Cooler = $189 @ PLE.
That's the cheapest I could find quickly on staticice.com.au. But it's pretty expensive already, and it's such an old iGPU that it doesn't even have AV1 decode. You would probably be better off with a mini PC with something like an Intel N300 in it. Or maybe the lowest level AM5 stuff you can get if you want a "full blown" PC?
Thank you all for your help
5600 plus a second hand rx580 GPU online.
This will be cheap and will even be a decent 1080p gaming machine in a pinch.

When 5700x is this low, why not?
No built in graphics
As I've mentioned above, if you pair this with a cheap second hand 8gb Rx580 GPU for under $100 you've got yourself a great little 1080p gaming machine for most titles. Which means it'll be fine for media centre work.
Hell with fsr3 this combo would even play games like starfield and cyberpunk above 60fps at FHD.
Though they work fine for limited loads, a board without any heatsink on the VRMs freak me out.
Lol… Exactly what I thought when I checked it out, basically boards used by OEM's… Definitely good idea to have airflow going over it.
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/176355221457 $1 more and has a VRM sink, but it's B450 so loses PCIE4 support
Thanks, but I dont need one ATM as I upgraded. But these 5xxx series processors are really good value with a cheap DDR4 ram and SSDs. And does pretty much everything unless you plan to game on a high end card.
To cut cost, Gigabyte has reduced a lot of its B550 boards' BIOS flash ROM size by 50%, essentially using the same size of BIOS flash ROM as majority of B450 boards. It is dodgy because initially AMD used the excuse B450's BIOS flash ROM size is not big enough to include support for 5000 series CPUs (but later allowed B450 to remove older CPU support to add support for newer CPUs).
I owned this board 5 years no issues
Am5 deals only please 🥺
Ah crazy as it is time wise, AM4 has still got life in it. If you can grab a bargain mobo and a heavily discount 5600x3d ship you're actually punching up there with the best of the best at a fraction of the price. Leaves a lot more spare $ to put into the GPU that will actually make a difference in the FPS you get.
5600X3D was only a US sold CPU
Sorry you are correct that was a typo, was meaning the 5700X3D
Just jokes inlm sure there is a place for usuable am4 rigs. 5800x3d will still keep mostly up with a 4090 in 4k .
Was thinking of downsizing my gaming PC to mATX but doesn't seem to be any good am4 boards for it that are currently available. AM5 boards seems to have more focus on features this time around compared to AM4 boards re; mATX
(looking to fit in the upcoming The Lian Li x Dan Cases A3-mATX).I have a MSI B550 Mortar. Great board with everything you would want in an Matx AM4 board.
I'm going to be upgrading to that DAN matx case when Zen5 9600 6 core 65w cpu comes out. Its supposed be beat a 7800X3D in games and way faster in everything else.
Looking at the white one :) also need that glass side panel if i can find were to buy it
Yeah might just have to hold up till next zen/nvidia release to make it worth while to downsize with solid parts.
This board has very limited number of fan connectors - 1 for CPU and 1 for case fans.
While you can add an additional fan controller to it. i'd suggest adding this 30-40$ and getting a better mobo. You can get a fan controller for like $25 but yeah
Just get a splitter cable from ebay.
I'm thinking of buying this MB but saw your comment. Can you suggest what might be a better buy?
Good cpu to pair as a media center pc?
