[NSW] CordTech 3.6A - USB-A and USB-C Twin USB Powerpoint $20 @ Bunnings, Caringbah

90

Saw this at Bunnings Caringbah which seemed like a decent deal to me. I’m standing here now posting the deal. There are a fair few left. It says 3.6A for the usb outlets. Presumably that is all three combined.
Let us know if it's a decent deal before I get to the checkout!

  • What's the output of the USB ports

    • 3.6A

      • But how many watts each. If less than 18W, it's useless to me

        • Just says 18W shared load. The specs aren’t great. It’s probably only useful for overnight charging

        • I'd assume 5V only, since no mention of PD.

USB-PD is the future for DC power.

          • @bargaino: Struggling to find a decent GPO with dual USB-C, let alone PD. Ones like this would struggle to power a laptop to turn on!

@SolitaryMan: Yes, the time has not yet come for hard-wired DC power outlets.

You might consider installing recessed GPOs in or behind benchtops, with space for a plug-in PD charger.

Ahh thanks for finding the link. Pfft I’m putting them back. Apologies for posting a raw deal. Feel free to neg me!

  • These went on clearance at my local Bunnings and were all gone the next day when I went back. Move quickly!

You can generally feel the quality of a switch when you use it. I've found these cheap Bunnings ones just feel 'yuck' to use? It's hard to describe.

  • Do people install these themselves? I'm always tempted by them, but then remember the $200 to get an electrician to install per port..

It's legal to do in the UK yourself, it always boggles my mind how protected we are.

$200 per GPO? Can I be your electrician please?

    • +1

      how protected we are.

You mean how protected the tradies guild is.

Of course people install their own. Even in NZ it is legal.

I wont tell anyone if you do. Its only 3 wires.
Just kill the power ro the house first.

    • Still showing at full price at most stores.

I have installed 6 of the this usb power point around the house few months ago at full price. pretty much you can DIY just make sure you turn off the main switch as you don't want to be bbq'ed. i find it very handy to charge low power devices eg USB power camera/fan, meross garage opener, electric toothbrush charger etc… please don't expect this to fast charge your mobile/tablet devices. one of the downsides when installing is the 3 holes to screw the copper is a quite small so if may need to spend a bit of time to trim off the excess copper. if you have triple joint cables then can be very tricky (Im not an electrician). overall, with this price i wish my local bunnings could sell at this price and i will buy more to install more. the other downside is the USB port is quite near to the 3-pin so if you have a big 3-pin will block the USB port. hope this helps.

      Okay

      Im not an electrician

Probably shouldn't be advising self install then. Whilst it could be easy, not safe.

        • while i agree some of the above are easy but not safe. all is about making your own due diligent. access your own risks and capabilities.

Of course, but it is also the way of phrasing things so that it doesn't look like you have done thing and avoid future issues.

Just saying but - House Burns Down > Insurance company finds your post on OzBargain > House caused by electrical fire > Insurance Claim Denied.

i run the cctv cabling but i am not an electrician,

Sure, but running cables is different to rewiring a powerpoint that could electrocute you and/or start a fire.

          • @geekcohen: i am not good in phrasing as my english is fourth language. again assess your own risks and capabilities and due diligent for future issues.
i do agree that running cables is different to rewiring a powerpoint but if i injured myself or possibilities of death from falls then my insurance wont cover.
just saying i groom my dog and accidentally cut his eyes, the pet insurance may not cover the vet bill.
same as all the diy above. they do come with risks. assess your own risks and due diligent.

Installed 2 of them with no issue, i didn't intend on them being device charging but for IOT devices etc and they work great! example is one in my garage for the meross opener and for a wireless speaker that sits next to it (attached to the ceiling)

  • These were showing full price in Powerpass this morning but walked past them at Cockburn marked down (price is now updated in PP too)

Couple of them hanging near the exhaust fans, back wall.
