You can still get good stuff at op shops for very good prices. I literally just picked up a Janome Myexcel 18w sewing machine for 35 bucks an hour ago. (Retails about 600)

But any good bargains will already be long gone when these deals are live.

    • Gives me an excuse to visit the local one and see where it is, what it's like. I've never been. Probably haven't been to an op shop in 20 years.

Sure, just don't complain when all you see are racks of used Kmart, bigw, cotton on, Uniqlo cloth at somewhat dubious prices.

1/2 price at vinnies still wont be as cheap as Animal Welfare op shops everyday prices (eg. clothing $2 each or 3 for $5, shoes for $3, etc)

Honestly, Vinnies needs to review their pricing anyway. 50% off will still be above the RRP of some items they sell. The funniest thing is these stores are a halfway stop between the average home and the rubbish tip, but they still mark prices above what I can get new from Kmart most of the time.

Vinnies prices are still pretty decent. But Salvos, especially any of the new fancy/posh renovated ones, are out of control.

These stores aren't trying to sell cheap clothes to vulnerable cohorts anymore. They are used to raise revenue for the charitable arms of their organisation, which provide services and goods directly to those vulnerable cohorts. Basically they are promoting the reuse economy with a side donation for charity. It doesn't make much sense for them to try competing with Kmart when you can already get brand new shirts for $2.50 from there.
