        • Are you planning on buying anything else? You have to spend $300 or more at the one retailer

          • @nicholasv: Yes, but I am planning to buy LTE version which is $352. If we get GST claim, then additional savings as $30. So difference would be $50 between LTE & wifi.

            • @KH234: Personally I'd price match at OW if they let you (or wait for OW to lower their price), but I assume that the contact name would be what appears on the invoice

              • @nicholasv: Except OW only have the WiFi version not the LTE.
Also depending on the store they can be real picky about a site not showing the part number.

  • Worth upgrading from the first one? How much are people getting for the first secondhand?

    • +1

I got brand new LTE version from marketplace for ~$300-350 earlier this year.

This is a good deal, there's not much point getting LTE given you can't use it unless you're with telstra.
I don't use the LTE feature so would have easily bought the WiFi version if I don't already have one.

      • Thanks,.yeah I only ever get the wifi versions. I like my pixel watch but don't want to fall into the trap of upgrading when it works fine.

      • How did you know its brand new not refurb or you know …. As not sure who is selling it. As JB or OW if its legit and brand new

  • +2

I wish the battery life was better, the Pixel Watch 2 seems to be pretty much the best at sleep and HR tracking combined according to The Quantified Scientist on youtube.

  • -1

    Half day battery is pathetic…

    • +1

I get full day out of mine.
it goes into 'sleep' mode at night, drains ~15% overnight with ~7-8hr sleep

      • +1

        A full day? Wow(!)

    • I get almost 2 days.

  • +5

Laughing a bit about the comments on battery life. If you need to charge it twice a day, even if it's for 10 minutes, it's crap.

I have a 5 year old Huawei GT that I got free with a Huawei mobile, back in the days before Huawei became company non grata. I charge it maybe once a fortnight (sometimes longer), it's got a fantastic OLED display, GPS, heart monitor, is built like a tank and does everything I need it to do. So why are Google still selling some garbage in 2024 that can't go more than a day without you needing to plug it in to the charger?!

I love Google stuff by the way, but this is clearly shite.

    • +2

You don't buy this for the battery, you buy this for the HR sensor, sleep tracking and all the fitbit feature which is quite accurate based on "The Quantified Scientist" review on YouTube.

It depends on your use-case, if you want accurate sensors. you'll go for Pixel Watch 2 any day of the week over less accurate sensors with longer battery life. You can also get a Temu smart watch for a lot less, its such bad quality you can just refund it when you get it and they'll let you keep it.

I read the next WearOS update should improve battery life by 10-15%. It's not much and you still need to charge it daily, but every bit helps and

      • +2

My ancient Huawei watch does all that and needs changing twice a month.

Not sure whose "use case" involves having to take the bloody thing off to charge it twice a day…

Also, if they were that great Google wouldn't be discounting them so heavily. No doubt there's warehouses full of them they can't shift…

        • +1

Yeah the battery doesn't suit your needs, but the Huawei watches have terrible sleep tracking (the worst along with Xiaomi), and I'm sure the HR data on the original GT isn't great either, as even the GT4 is below the Pixel 1 in terms of accuracy, whereas the Pixel 2 is basically top in both categories for an Android watch.

I don't have a smart watch, I but I only want one for sleep tracking and exercise (I wear a normal watch during the day), so this would fit my use case… I'm sure a lot of people who buy these watches don't want to wear it all day.

Regardless, I hope these keep dropping in price as it's the best watch for me at the moment (especially for this price), even with the shorter battery life.

          • +1

@Pandaroo: Exactly, if the Apple watches aren't an option, PW2 is the only other watch that nails both HR and sleep. I wish there was a more repairable option, but there just isn't yet.

        • The Pixel Watch 3 is coming out later this year.

          • +2

@SeVeN11: And the 4 a year after that

        • Do you get your phone notifications through that watch and can send messages etc? Can you 'ok google' to that watch and control your home automation etc? Does it support paywave/wallet?

          • +1

@xmail: Nope, and I've never once needed it to. I have a mobile for that.

  • I had the first one the battery life was terrible and a mate had the 2nd one and its not that much better. I have a Samsung Watch 6 46mm and I can get 3-4 days outta it all on (except always on screen). I also have a Ticwatch 5 and the battery life on that for a full smart watch can't be beat. It has had about 3 or 4 updates, They apparently working on a beta for version 4 of WearOS….. but we will see.

Just called up officeworks, they won't price match because the manufacturer's warranty is different:
    Officeworks:12 mths
    Qantas: 2 years

    • +1

      That's funny.
It's manufactured by Google, how can it be different?

    • +2

      Just buy it through Qantas.

      • Yep ended up doing that

    • That is weird. Google gives the warranty, and it is 2 years. So Officeworks won't price match because they have wrong information in their system?

      • Yep, doesn't surprise me one bit

  • Thanks got one for myself and the wife. Cheers.

  • If you are points club - you can get it for $271.

    • confirmed $271 delivered and 1626 QFF points

  • +3

Thanks, got OW to PB at $260.30. Some nervous moments at the check out!

    • Nice - I think depend on the OW staff. I tried this morning but they cant price match with Qantas.

  • Wow thanks

  • +1

JB Hi-fi price-matched for me. I regret no going to OW for the little extra savings.

    • can you pm a receipt pls?

    • Could you pm me the receipt too please!

  • Denied at Officeworks as Qantas requires a frequent flyer account.

  • Rejected by OW as the warranty length is different and also Qantas needs sign up. A bit strange. So, I just ordered it through Qantas.

  • Went to my 2 local OW, one accepted the price match but ran out of stock, the other one got stock but rejected me. Reason being "SKU doesn't match".

  • Pretty good price. Fence sitters should jump

  • Thanks, great deal 😄

  • Just bought one at the Qantas store. First smart watch so very excited to get one. Any suggestions on which protection cover to get for the face?

    • -4

      Face Shield and N95 Mask

      • 🙄😁

  • I recently bought the Pixel 8A and currently have a Samsung Watch 4, and am noticing that they do not cooperate as smoothly as it used to be when I had a Samsung S21. Things like the "Do not disturb" not syncing, not being able to turn off the alarm with the buttons, not being able to take a photo using my watch (handy when trying to take family photos).

I guess I'm asking, is the Pixel 8a and Pixel Watch 2 system as seamless and smooth as the Watch4 and S21 system or would I be disappointed?

  • I recently got this watch, I use it with a Pixel 7 phone. I previously had a MiBand 5 I think, so some basic smart-watch functions. I was pretty on the fence. I'm probably going to keep using this watch, things I like are:
-Useful for jogging. I can download music to the watch, play it through bluetooth speakers, and track my run, without a phone.
-The tap-to-pay on the phone is a bit gimmicky but also handy.
-I like having google assistant on the watch.
-I haven't really used it but I can imagine times where google maps on the watch is very handy.

Battery life isn't great, my current pattern is charging it for a bit in the morning after waking up and a bit in the afternoon after getting home - this is probably more than is needed. It has a proprietary charger that connects to USB-C.

    • +1

why do you think google wallet on the watch is a gimmick?

      • In my case, for it to work I need my phone nearby anyway. So if I have my phone in my pocket, it's not really a huge effort-saver to use my wrist instead! It saves like, 5s. But I can see how it would be particularly handy with LTE, or maybe for things like public transit. Or if you don't want to keep your phone in your pocket! (but still on your person).

        • Pretty sure it doesn't require phone to be nearby but happy to be corrected

  • Got the LTE version for $300 on marketplace last month. Could have bought this instead lol

  • +2

Recent update to the watch has increase battery life significantly

  • Anyone able to get JB to price match?

    • Nope. Rep told me they don't price match with Qantas Marketplace and offered $528 instead lol

  • Noob question folks : Any particular reason everyone is trying to price match it, instead of just buying it outright from Qantas Marketplace? Is it not brand new from the Marketplace ? Or is the seller unknown type of thing ?

    • +2

I've got some JB gift cards I want to use up.

    • +1

OW does a 5% price beat, JB you can use discounted gift cards and/or Perks vouchers.
Picking up in store, along with easier returns if needed.

  • Does it require a Qantas membership? I tried to check out and was asking for a member login.

to add to that, here are the product codes, in case someone needs them.
    Bay: GA05032-GB
    Hazel: GA05030-GB
    Obsidian: GA05029-GB
    Porcelain: GA05031-GB

    • Did you find them on the Qantas webpage? Where? If so price matching at Officeworks should be straightforward.

      • Yes its in Product details / Features.
Looks like gray imports. Australian watch has -AU in the end. These all have -GB.

        • Thanks, found it!

Officeworks, under "Specifications" for the black one shows

          Part Number GA05029-GB

          Exactly the same :-)

  • Bought with Q-Points, thanks OP.

    • +1

      Qantas points option is expensive.

      • But it's essentially doubled in value 🤪

  • +1

OW now showing 287.. Hopefully will be amended to 274 soon so I can match with JB lol

    • Wow, got this from JB online chat: Just looking at officeworks stock unfortunately because they have it listed as limited stock in their stores around you we aren't able to match as that goes against our price match policy.

Officeworks it is then for me, to be able to use an Ultimate gift card…

      • I got the same initially but was able to argue that there is unlimited online delivery stock so was able to get it through

        • Did JB match or beat the price? If same price, I don't care either…

          • +1

@team teri: Match only. I just have a lot of jb gift cards to offload hence my persistence

  • Wifi model is OOS

  • I just asked JB Hi-Fi to price match online and they said $287 is the best they can do as “Qantas marketplace is a member only price”.

They also offered pixel earbuds for an extra $250 but I said NO!

Now to go try with OW to get that extra 5% off 🤣

    • the buds pro were $179 just last week

      • $149; sale ended on the 21st

  • Just got one for $271 delivered from Qantas Marketplace. Looks like there is an extra 5% discount for Points Club members (which every good Ozbargainer should be right!?!).
