  • Price match?

  • Point n shoots are dead. We have things called smartphones now :)

    • there is no way a smart phone has the quality of one of these phones! give it a few more years…

Not young children going on camps etc. It has become a convenience thing to use the camera on a smart phone but even a cheap camera like this will take better pictures than my iPhone 5. Who can be stuffed carrying individual devices when a phone can do it all? But their is still a place for these cheap cameras. Remember the $100 jb hifi trade in?

    • There comes a point where marginally better photos isn't worth the effort of carrying an extra device. The iphone cameras are actually pretty good after the iPhone 4 released. Plus, you can download so many photo apps to make your photos look much better. And email/mms/transfer them via wifi or bluetooth. Larger screen too. I'm surprised camera designs haven't changed over the last few decades; if they started to evolve like phones did, I could probably see a viable market.

They should start making cameras that can make phone calls.

        • see galaxy camera… though you'll probably need a VOIP client…

      • Totally agree. Just yesterday it was a sunny day in Melbourne and I was trying to take a picture in the shade with my iPhone 5. I just couldn't get a good picture so I took out the cheapie and it did the job.

The thing is some of us don't regard the difference as marginal. Maybe if you only take pictures of people's faces in city locations all the time, you might not care. I saw people use phone cameras on holiday. Maybe it was all they wanted, to show people they wuz there. I don't have an issue with that but I would never do that. Even when not on holiday I have a P&S camera handy, not necessarily on my person but I usually have a work bag or shopping bag of some sort.

Maybe one day the lenses on phones will be as good as those on P&S cameras. I don't think this will happen soon though.

For anyone saying there is no place for small cameras, you're quite wrong. The battery life reliability and mechanics of taking photos on a point and shoot are superior to a smart phone. Yes, smart phones take excellent quality shots however normally only in ideal lighting conditions. consider of you're hiking in an area with no cell coverage. I would prefer a small camera any day. But then again, I use an slr…

      Agreed.

To be fair, I haven't had a really good look at a photo taken by one of the newest generation smartass phone cameras, so I'm happy to be corrected by those with current knowledge; but the smartphone photos I have seen to date (~SGSII vintage) have been pretty ordinary indeed compared to even a halfway decent P&S.

IIRC it's also the better lenses (with optical zoom), bigger image sensor & dedicated image processing chip in a P&S that makes all of the difference! ;)

      • I have an s2 and if it's outdoor with perfect lighting conditions the quality is pretty damn good. However you cannot zoom and yes, the smaller lenses have a huge impact on quality.

  • Anybody successfully price beaten at officeworks yet?

Officeworks is out of stock .

If you join the doorbuster and get 5.00 voucher which is more than 5%.

Put an order for my wife , she don't want to carry a bag for a DSL , + Olympus Compact and Sony HD . Hope this small CCD can make decent pictures ,anyway it is just 70 dollars .

  • Im sure this compact camera has a better lens and picture quality compared to a smart phone. I know using gps, camera and taking videos can certainly drain the battery rather quickly on a smart phone.

I know Nikon has a smart android camera in there range
