Yes, but less than gopro 10/11
While it does get warm to the touch, I have never had it shut down on me due to overheating or for any reason other than the battery running out around the 1hr 15-20 min mark (4K 60 fps). I have used this on countless flights in gliders and the cockpit will easily be in the mid to high thirty degrees with the camera being exposed to direct sunlight and little air circulation to let it cool down - and yet it still keeps going. I tried a GoPro 10 and it died after less than 10 mins. Check YouTube for reviews and real world tests. 👍
You won't find anything better under $300
Yes, but then again, unless one is a casual user, I don't recommend standard combo. It costs a lot more to get separate batteries. Best advice I got and experienced is to get the adventure combo as battery runs out and you'd need at least a second battery
Depends on your usage patterns. They can be charged from a powerbank in between sessions whilst you rest. Apparently it takes 18 minutes to charge to 80%. Or even have a powerbank directly attached for a very long session.
I personally dont think the Adventure combo is good value at all. That selfie stick and charging case is overpriced. And if you shoot with a powerbank, the extra batteries are not really required.
That's another way to do it. Although I found taking a powerbank into the ocean somewhat inconvenient lol
@foreverphoenix: as if you are going to do a battery swap in the ocean lol
So what selfie stick would you recommend to get to combo with this deal? That's all I need
@neonlight: A chopstick
@SeanConnery: Heh I was referring to accessory not dining utensils
Is the Adventure Combo better value?
If you will use the selfie stick ($50 RRP), two extra batteries ($50ea RRP) and the charging case ($80 RRP) yes, otherwise if you just need extra batteries just buy them individually. The $299 combo comes with everything the Adventure does, except 2 batteries, charge case, and selfie stick.
The answer is yes if you're more than a casual user. If it may be helpful I'll give you my example. When I go out on an adventure for a weekend, I usually run out of the initial battery as each battery usually lasts me about 1.5-2 hours and I need at least 2-3 batteries for a weekend outing and I don't have immediate access to a charger to recharge the battery. If you think you'd need more than one battery, then I'd say the Adventure package is worth it even if you don't use the other features of Adventure package. This is because extra batteries cost about at least $50 each
if Adventure combo is $479 then wouldn't it be better to get Standard for $299 then buy 2 batteries for $100? if you only need the batteries
You'd have to get a charging case to charge multiple batteries… I get your reasoning, but I found the charging case convenient
Add JB HiFi Gift Cards @ 4% off from MacQuarie Bank and receive another $11.96 discount bringing the total down to $287.04 👍
this is a great price
Is this a good choice for filming while snorkeling? Or do I need some GoPro for that?
Is this a good choice for filming while snorkeling?
Yes. See below.
18m Waterproof
Dive in with confidence and enjoy easy operation even with wet hands. Action 4 is designed to withstand depths of up to 18 meters without a case. [6][6] Before using the action camera, close the battery cover and the USB-C port cover, and tighten the Glass Lens Cover. It is recommended to install the Waterproof Case for long-term underwater shooting or in environments with high water impact pressure. Osmo Action 4 and its Waterproof Case have an IP68 waterproof rating. Do not use the camera in hot springs or extreme underwater environments, or let it come into contact with corrosive or unknown liquids.
I have used both gopro and dji to shoot exclusively underwater footage. DJI produces better shots straight out of the camera (i.e. no editing required)
I bought it last year for snorkeling. This is an excellent camera, unfortunately it was over $400 when I bought it. I recommend that since you're going to use it in the ocean you use a diving case like one here - https://www.d1store.com.au/products/dji-osmo-action-3-waterp…
I’ve literally used GoPro since GoPro 2 and just last year discovered the DJI Osmo Action.. and I’m very confused why I haven’t made the change earlier. DJI in my eyes is so much better and easier to use everything.. I love it! Would recommend you to have a look in some store and see yourself. Absolute beauties! Very happy with mine!!!
I was in a similar boat, and jumped to Action 4's (yes, 2x) at the start of last year and haven't looked back.
Battery life is significantly better, even at higher resolutions.
Menu is same same - easy to use, very similar to GoPro but just a little different.
Image quality is great and seems to expose better than GoPro (I use it for motor racing where the interior is darker but the outside is brighter).
Quality of the device itself is great.
Common complaint is that the magnetic adapter is a bit fiddly compared to GoPro's version, but once on I find its solid and doesn't move - it just needs a specific way of clicking it in to place.
how long does the battery last and how long to do full charge once depleted? trying to see if its worth it
From JB site:
Ultra-long Battery Life, Fast-Charge Supported
With over 2.5 hours of use, never miss a beat. When you finally do need to recharge, fast-charging has you covered. In just 18 minutes, charge up to 80%.
This is also a great price! DJI Osmo Mobile 6 Gimbal (Slate Grey) - $129
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/dji-osmo-mobile-6-gimbal-…
It’s showing 204
https://store.dji.com/au/product/osmo-mobile-6?from=site-nav…
New version coming out soon, which is why it's going cheap.
Anything on the store that is $1 to stack with the $30 off ?
$299 is the after perks price
It’s $329 before the code, no need for the dollar. Otherwise it would be $270 not $299 lol
stack with this deal btw guys https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/889997
Only if you can get the high value ones else limit to 3 per customer with $40-$50 cards you would need to come back another day.
You should be able to get either cheaper by price matching the good guys price best price.
The standard combo is $318, adventure combo currently shows as $488.
How cheaper? It’s $299 here.
If you price match the good guys less $30 it brings it down to $288.
Mate, you can't price match less $30 as this uses a JB Perkz coupon.
Mate, I’m saying get jb to price match the good guys “price beat” price.
1/ get on live chat, send them the good guys link - https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/dji-osmo-action-4-standard-co…
The price beat price shows as $318
Jb will match the price and will bring the price down the $318
2/ apply your $30 coupon which will bring the price down the $288
Apply Macquarie gift cards for further discount
Thanks for the tips! Was able to price match and bringing it down to 288
Got the same deal, $275.04 total with Bupa discounted gift yards.
Gavin in live chat wouldn’t honour this. lol
@chilln2006: must be Karen's brother
Looks like adventure combo is showing $509 for me?
Click on the PRICE BEAT option.. looks like they've now upped the price to $499
Looks like it's been updated again to $488.
Price match at jb minus $30 and it'll come down to $458.
Damm, purchased the Action 5 for $550 last week… not sure it is worth the extra $250 : (
I got the action 5 combo with dive kit for 630last week
Not sure if it's a stupid question. Is it better than using the phone camera?
Better than a phone for what situation?
Dangerous action shots - yep
Picture quality - nope
The field of view angle is very different also. 155 degrees for an action cam and its not really adjustable without crop. Phone cameras these days are only up to about 123 degrees but are adjustable with multiple cameras in a single phone.
Picture quality - nope
As an owner of both - a phone, and this camera - you'd literally have to have a THOUSAND+ dollar flagship phone to get anywhere close to the quality, and unless you have one of a very select few flagships with expandable storage, you're also likely to run out of storage.
How about the Samsung S23U/24/25 Ultra?
I used my S23U to take video in and out of a pool and I was quite impressed by the results.
Similarly used it to take video of my kids whilst skiing.
The advantage of the Osmo obviously is having dedicated controls and being easier to grip.
I used my S23U to take video in and out of a pool and I was quite impressed by the results.
With or without a case? The phone may be waterproof, but chlorine and salt are corrosive. I don't think you should be using your phone in a pool without a waterproof case.
IMO yes.
You'd need to have a $1000+ phone to come close to matching this.
Not to mention, if you want things like low light stabilisation or gyro data, typically phones aren't great at that.
I own a high end midrange phone, and this absolutely stomps it. Also, battery life and SD card swaps are easier to manage.
Would this be any good as a dash cam?
It has loop recording so can be done, however, it will overheat after a while if used in 4K60 like any other action cam as it's sitting stationary inside the car, unless you have the AC on then its fine.
Is this waterproof or you need enclosed case?
In the past most required an enclosure despite says waterproof
Waterproof up to 18m - it comes with the bumper case (just for the corners) but the camera itself is waterproof without additional cases.
Use an enclosed case to extend the life of the camera when using underwater.
Should I wait for a deal for the Action 5 or is this better?
Whn it happens action 6 will probably comes out so i dont see the point waiting
Thanks OP! Got it for $287 after stacking with the perks and the Macquarie egift card.
Just what I need for my snowboarding trip
Adventure combo is $498 at harvey norman, got jb to price match + $30 perks for total $468
Is this good for filming golf?
not worth it, adventure combo is almost $500, might as well get a Gopro13 adv deal for it.
Hmmmm GoPro 13 or Adventure pack… hard decision!
Thanks, OP! Grabbed the Adventure Combo after price-matching The Good Guys (price beat of $488), applying the $30 perks coupon, and paying with discounted Bupa gift cards (4.5% off) for a final price of $437.39
Damn already purchased from the previous deal :(
Does this heat up ?
