Don't do it Jetstar canceled my flight just 3 weeks ago I didn't want to fly them but had to because of a urgent matter they didn't automatically put me on the next flight so I had to go with another airline & pay $650 extra I claimed on my travel insurance but still out of pocket $250 never never again .

Don't do it Jetstar canceled my flight just 3 weeks ago

Back to their old tricks to reduce costs, now that Bonza have gone under.

    • Its a tricky choice, choose Jetstar for say $54, or Qantas for $354 / Virgin for $310, personally i think i would go the $54 and just drive home for the next flight option, or hang in the airport for next flight if not far off, than pay high cost for same flight, distance and crappy seating

How many people got burnt by Qantas too?! Selling tickets on already cancelled flights just boggles the mind right lol $120 million in compensation haha iirc

Wait isn't JetCancel the budget arm of Qantas?

        • You tell me after looking at the stats this year, Jetstar is looking pretty good in comparison. Not saying that its great having a flight cancelled, but if you are going to have a crack at an airline because you got burnt, have a look across the board.

Table 1: Total Industry On Time Performance for March 2024

          Reporting Airlines, from https://www.bitre.gov.au/statistics/aviation/otp_month

          Cancellation percentage for March 2024

          Bonza 3.5%

          Jetstar 1.5%

Qantas - all QF designated services 3.8%

Virgin Australia - all VA designated services 2.8%

          Also, for some light reading

@BatmanAU: Are there stats for not just March 2024?

Also, I reckon other airlines give travellers more notice - up to 7 days in advance to avoid being counted as a cancellation.

JetCancel on the other hand lets you know when you're fast asleep getting ready to wake up in a few hours to travel….. OR cancelling on you while ur stuck on the tarmac LOL.

            • @Ultraman: I would say if you went to the site, it would show other months, but personally, not that interested, was just showing quick google check stats.

              • @BatmanAU: I'm not that interested either. But I'm pretty sure there are many people who agree that JetCancel deserves the bad rep they have, not only because of the number of cancellations, but because of their atrocious behavior when they do decide to cancel flights at the last minute.

  • I never took them up on the voucher they gave me in compensation for stuffing me and two others around for our trip.

Instead, I will never fly them again, even with dirt cheap prices lol

They don't seem to realise how buying a ticket somewhere far away isn't just a piece of paper that allows you on one of their planes…

    Sydney to Melbourne (Avalon) (28 May 2024 - 03 July 2024) from $39

Should read: Sydney to Geelong (Avalon). Don't let them fool you into thinking it's Melbourne lol.

    • Avalon could very well get a train line to Melbourne before Tullamarine does.

  • Every airlines cancel their flights for various reasons. Even Business Class VIP passengers got stranded on Singapore Airlines….https://mothership.sg/2024/04/business-passengers-miss-sq-flight/

Virgin vs Jetstar, I think they are similar these days… …. both are budget airlines with good safety records.

    • +2

Yeah, but other airlines would treat you a lot better than Jetstar does I'd say. You even get upgraded sometimes by other airlines for double booking the flight you were supposed to be on and asking you to stay overnight (at their expense) to catch another flight the next day.

Whereas jetstar just cancels on you and leaves you on the tarmac… or says you gotta fly somewhere else far away to transit adding hours onto your cancelled direct flight, plus layover time.

Plus how often jetstar cancels flights seems to be pretty often lol, so never again JetCancel!

Australia needs EU flight rules to force airlines into submission on decent travel standards. If they don't get you there, they pay you more than the airfare.
