    Here's a longish explanation I posted earlier. Rather than repeat it, here's a link to explain Usenet in case you're not quite sure what it's all about;

    • That was heaps helpful. Thanks!

@OP: Just wondering if you would post the deals over and over again if you weren't an affiliate? :P

Can't really see the point of paying $40 for 1tb of downloads

    • +1

Yep, paying for something that used to be free; and for which there are numerous free or significantly cheaper alternatives; does not seem like a smart move to me either! ;)

      • Please enlighten me on such cheaper alternatives? Do they offer the same retention, speed, content and security?

Just because usenet used to be free for when it was actually used for text and pictures does'nt mean you should'nt pay to access what it has become today.

For me, the security and speed associated with usenet is unmatched and well worth the expense. That being said, I use a different provider to the one listed by the OP.

Ask around on #irc, become a member of the community & you'll find out about alternatives…unlike the new-age Usenet kiddies, smart folks don't blab about them on open forums! ;)

Just because usenet used to be free for when it was actually used for text and pictures…

Ok, so you don't know what .bin meant, right?

Ugh, I wish people would stop talking about newsgroups! :D

I was on easynews for a few years, until usenet became flooded with trojans/viruses even more so for just about every download.

Prefer bit torrent now with user reviews/ratings which helps to verify if the download is dodgy or not.

PPL having the same experiences as me?

Thats if you use the public …errr..lists…

I cant remember the name but you pay like $10 to signup and they weed out the crap. Maybe someone can elaborate on this.

      • +1

Was it bitsoup? Great quality torrents. I only use it for the legal stuff, of course. I never inhale.

        • LOL, I did not have downloading relations with that server! :)

There's lots of good free private torrent sites out there too, google is your friend! :)

    • +1

If you are using public "lists", your doing it wrong. Join a proper private "list" that offers you all the speed/security benifits, but also the ability to rate nzb's and comment on them, with bad ones removed as soon as they are identified. Google is your friend for finding these private nzb trackers.

  • Can I max out my cable speeds which is about 100mb/s?

Edit: Just bought this deal and I'm getting 9MB/s. Awesome speeds!

    • -1

9MB isn't very fast for something you paying for.

      • -1

you realize he means megabyte not megabit?

  • Anyone know what their actual retention and coverage is like of if they're a reseller for someone like Astraweb?

  • where does this provider get it's data from? Not connected with Astraweb is it? Apparently Astraweb has been having problems with take downs.

    • +1

My provider is basically an Astraweb reseller, the speed in which they respond to DCMA takedowns is next to instantaneous.

  • dam missed it

    • Don't stress, they're almost weekly nowadays…

      • oh, ok thanks. Joined the mailing list hopefully I remember to check next week.
