    Are these top tier?

    • +32

      what do you reckon?

    • I wouldn't say top tier, but my lounge room Hisense was decent and lasted about 10+ years

      • I have the 85" and its pretty nice.

    • +3

Half decent if you whack on a Chromecast

    • +3

I bought the equivalent model a few years ago. Had several problems.

They outsourced to a technician company who had absolutely no idea what they were doing. They also had no idea how the internet works (trying to blame audio problems on internet latency). Total fools

After several motherboard replacements, I pushed for a replacement. I told them I was going to go to court (and I was planning on doing it… just for a fun learning experience, as I've never taken anything to small claims court before). And then a new model was available and they approved replacement. Had a brand new TV/model and the problem never occurred again.

So would I buy again? Well hopefully that bug was solved so new models should be fine. I guess I would buy Hisense again but only if it was a lot cheaper than other manufacturers.

      • I had almost the same experience with Samsung

    • +1

these are mid tier but very worth to buy, in comparison they would be like hyundai or kia of the car world or maybe the one plus, oppo and samsung A line type of company.

      • -6

Samsung is literally top tier. They have one of the most expensive phones (I assume you're discussing phones since you compared to Oppo and One Plus on the market with the Galaxy Fold. They do have some budget phones with a wide variety of ranges but calling them mid is blasphemy

        • +2

"samsung A line" doesnt exactly include the fold

          • @Toastywf: My bad I didn't realise that was one thing

        • Key words, "A line"

    • +1

      Are you JV?

    • +1

No, obviously these are not a top-tier LG OLED.

However, it depends on what you are watching. If you're not watching in dark environments (i.e. you're watching in broad daylight), then a significant chunk of the benefits of more expensive TVs are wasted.

If you're looking for a big TV to watch mostly sports, "talking head videos", YouTube, put in a meeting room…etc. then this is great value, and will be perfectly fine.

I bought this in June 2015 and it is still going strong with a Chromecast.

Hisense 50"(126cm) FHD LED LCD Smart TV

      50K220PW
      Qty: 1
      $788.00

Crazy how rapidly technology advances and what I could buy for the same money today!

      • Same shit, better power consumption.

  • Is the UI on this any good, or would I still need to add in a chromecast to be able to add my own streaming apps and games?
What would be the peoples choice between this and a TCL with google tv?

    • +1

I've had a TCL with Google TV which was still pretty laggy at, but more bearable of an OS compared to anything else. I would still recommend a Chromecast in most cases. Considering that they're like $50 and you can reuse them

    • Ui stinks

    • UI is almost irrelevant when Chromecast is so cheap and easy.

  • +5

Hmm, I've had 3 Hisense TVs die on me when they reach the 3 year mark. Latest one is the 65" LCD which now has a backlight issue. Our other brands from who knows when are still going without any problems!

    • I had a hisense tv before that lasted for about 5 years before it had a backlight issue which I was able to fix by going into the settings and reducing the backlight intensity and making it almost half as much. so basically the backlight worked but it got old and struggled to keep full power output so the tv still works but its dimmer, so its good for to keep in a room that someone may use mainly at night to watch since at night its not noticeable much.
i still like hisense tv's though.

    • +4

My p7 had a backlit issue 2 months after warranty expired. I pushed Hisense to repair they gave my a new tv, after a few months started playing up every now and then, I don't have faith it will last much longer. Hisense tvs stink, my first and last purchase when it comes to tvs, FYI it's not a budget Hisense it's series 7

    • +3

At my work, we've had various Hisense & TLC TVs out in use, over the last several (2-5) years. They typically get used around 6-8 hours a day, some get left on nearly 24/7 (dumb users). I've not had to replace any yet.

    • Just bought a new Samsung after having bad backlight issues on my 2019 Hisense pop up around 4 months ago.

  • Hisense vs TCL. Any opinion?

    • +15

Most places you'll find people recommend TCL.

      • All JB and Good Guy staff that I talked to recommend TCL as well

        • +4

hah! Most probably because the sales guys in those stores probably make more commission selling TCL than other brands?

          • +5

@metalhead: Having worked at both stores, I highly doubt it. They get paid more for OLED, extended warranty and overpriced HDMI cables.

          • @metalhead: Hence why I asked the question here, to get a more balanced opinion/review

        • +2

Weird, I would've thought the opposite. Especially the more recent Hisense releases are much better than TCLs.

          • +5

@flubba86: Hisense regularly gimp their Australian specific models so they cop a lot of flak

          • +1

@flubba86: I agree. Currently have 2/3 of each at home, Hisense is way better in terms of remote, interface feel, responsiveness.

          • +2

@flubba86: Hisense give Australia far worse TV's than other countries. They also stick us with their terrible Viida OS.

As someone with a 2021 Hisense and a 2023 TCL, the TCL is a considerably better user experience, has a better remote, and is just all around more stable (doesn't have weird glitches like the Hisense where I had to disable fast boot in order to stop motion smoothing turning itself back on, that Hisense know about but never fixed).

    • +2

I would have thought Hisense. Their early on TVs were pretty average from an operating system side of things, but recently I thought they were producing decent quality stuff. Surprised with the TCL recommendation.

  • I have had 2 Hisense TVs and I have never had a problem

  • FYI, search 'Hisense TV chokes PC'

    • +31

      I got directed to pornhub

      • What kind of category was that?

        • +1

If you have to ask you are too young to know

  • Nice one

  • Would this be any good in a brightly lit room?

    • -1

Depends on your definition of good.
Better than a projector. Worse than OLED.

      • Buying as a replacement for 8 year old spare LCD Sony kdl-65w850c. Any good?

      • +1

MiniLED is better than OLED in a bright room.

  • Does Kayo work headache free on these TVs?

    • Motion will almost certainly be an issue

  • +2

    Vidaa Satan's favourite OS

  • -1

As cheap as these are, you can find OLED’s in the 55” and 65” varieties that are a few years old for similar prices.

    • I'm guessing you mean second hand?

      • Yep.

  • -1

Had one hisense product a clothes dryer lasted 4 weeks never again

    • +1

Had a fridge and its lasted 10 years

    • +1

My hisense tv was bought in 2018. Still going great.

    • Good indicator on how a TV will go, useful information.

  • Can't seem to get that price on the 85", it looks like that option has been removed and there is a store credit promo now…

    • +1

The 85” never had a sale. It was $1265 back in Nov last year.

I managed to order one a few days ago for $1510 (I think).. but price has gone up a little bit to around $1595.

  • Seems to be limited stock. Would have grabbed a new 55” panel for the bedroom but not available for delivery to me (or pickup).

  • +2

a7kau models are entry level, VIDAA software is trash compared to any others. google tv on TCL is way better, and more support for apps. Vidaa supports up to 50 apps. google tv supports up to 450 apps. massive difference. best tv for money would be TCL C745 or one up would be C845 if you can get your hands on one.

    • Love the name you CuckingFunt :D. Oh, and a good comment too!

  • -1

Have two of the long discontinued Hisense OLED’s (55PX)…purchased in 2019… they’ve been great. One has some pretty gnarly burn in from the ABC news ticker but to be fair on the TV, it’s seen a lot of ABC news 😂 both get quite heavy use and have been otherwise faultless.

Would buy again. I think I paid around $1050 each delivered at the time.

  • +2

Will it stack with this deal for cashback ?

  • Would the 43” be good as a monitor? Can’t find this model on Rtings?

  • +1

I have a 65R6 Hisense TV which was about 5 years old when I had to get it repaired. It cost me between $550 to get the backlights replaced ny a non official Hisense repair center.

If you're in avid TV user, Hisense TVs will last in average 3 years so you can budget accordingly ~$700 every 3 years. It feels quite wasteful and programmed obsolessence so I would recommend buying a good but more expensive LG TV instead.

  • +2

Here for the usual comments about the operating system not being as good as on a $5,000 OLED, could it be a monitor and unfavourably comparing it with TVs many times the price.

    • Well you won't be disappointed

  • This or the kogan google tvs?

  • Any idea, why 65" website page does not have PRICE BEAT or Price Check option? 65" price coming $895

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/hisense-65-inches-a7kau-4k-uh…

    • I think it might be because stock is low now. I had the same thing happen, then saw that there's no stock anywhere in Perth

    • Just tested it, seems to be working again
