Woodfire Pizza Oven $299 @ ALDI

40

It's almost a copy of Matador Pizza oven. It has a smaller cooking area (25% smaller) 57 x 46 compared to Matador 61 x 58. But Matador is selling $649 at Bunnings. This is a bargain.

  • Has anyone purchased this and can comment? Seems "to cheap to be true"

    • I have the Matador one for 3 years. It's highly recommended. You can go to the bunnings website to see the reviews.

  • Where do you get the wood for the fire? And how much does it cost for a few pizzas?

      yes

Free on gumtree though do your research what kind of wood your getting. Most hard wood and even some soft ones will do though fruit trees are usually the best. You can also get wood from bbq specialty shops but not worth it imo. Can also use lump charcoal and get some woodchips for that woodfire flavour. About $5 for a few pizzas is my best estimate if your going down that route.

      Wood comes from trees FYI

I used the 'pressed wood bricks' you can buy from Vinnies and they do a great job

I've purchased this, do not compare this to the ones that cost $1000 plus, it is double skin but not insulated as such. It got to temp 450 quick and kept temp quite well. My humble opinion is, it's good for home and for peeps in a tight budget and are not really picky with their leapord skin doigh texture

So basically it is $299 worth of land fill.

Pizzas cook well in the oven too. Why bother with something you are gonna rarely use, unless you eat pizzas daily.

    • +5

Frozen pizzas cooked in the microwave are good too, why even bother preheating the oven?

      • +1

If you are going to cook pizza in the microwave. you have to replace your glass turntable with a half inch thick pizza steel for best results to really get what you deserve… out of the pizza…

        • Make sure to chuck in some teaspoons for that extra spark.

If you think that, then you've never had a real pizza :)

Once I learned the method for proper neapolitan pizza, I could never go back to oven baked pizza

Nothing beats the <2 minute cook time and taste/texture of a pizza cooked in a high temp pizza oven. Mine is the gas Monro I got a few years ago for $99 at Coles, and it is brilliant. It's an Ooni rip off for a fraction of the price, and it's just as good.

Also think twice if you haven't made pizza in any oven that goes 400+ degrees.

It's harder to handle than your regular kitchen oven and harder to control than a gas pizza oven. Takes some determination.

  • +1

25% smaller cooking area but roughly half the weight. I'm thinking it's not as well insulated as the Matador oven.

If you're serious about pizza consider this https://www.thepizzaovenstore.com.au/collections/effeuno, if not mastering the cheap double method pan-grill is quite easy giving good results, check out Gigio Attanasio on YT

trust me make you life easy & get yourselves a gas fired one, these are big & cumbersome & a lot of hassle in comparison, those I know who bought them rarely use them whereas gas Ooni or similar are just much easier once you know how to use them. For those saying you get a woodfire taste it really isn't that noticable

    • +1

      This 100%.

I have a gas & wood pizza oven, and I only bother with gas for pizza - there's no difference in flavour, and it's incredibly easy to turn it on and get it ready to cook.

For slower, longer cooks like roasts etc, sure, wood every time.

  • I got the stone version and the opening was too small to fit in the aldi pizza bases. Hopefully this one is wider

    • +1

Is "the aldi pizza bases" just for reference, or would anybody actually buy and run a whole wood-fired oven to cook any store-bought pizza bases?

      • +1

personally I've cooked a lot of pizza & never store bought bases only home made, so many good recipes out there, never found a good mass produced store bought base
If you are going to use store bought might as well use the home oven & forget a pizza oven
