Bulova Jet Star 96B415 Precisionist 262kHz Hi Beat Quartz Watch $399 Delivered @ Starbuy

180

Surprised no one has posted this because it's the best deal in the SB weekend sale imo.

$200 cheaper than this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/845019 and arguably a better cw

$50 more than this: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/840692 but with a bracelet

All with the 262kHz movement. Now they need to drop the red dial to this price and it's an instant cop for me.

    Heaps nice

  • Not a bad colourway, not a fan of gold but good price on bracelet.

If only they had solar to supplement/replace the battery, love the sweep hand look.

Citizen own Bulova, but they don't seem to share tech besides the citizen auto movements In Bulovas. They could hypothetically chuck an Eco-Drive in there but I don't see it happening, and I don't how that would work with the 262khz movement. I would love an Eco-Drive with hi beat.

Changing batteries is piss easy tho, and batteries are cheap.

      • Let's hope they do something one day, would be killer.

      • That might cannibilise their eco-drive lineup though. Who wouldn't go for a 262khz eco drive? No battery and a gliding seconds would be hard to beat at this price bracket. Also might ruin their grand seiko appeal too but those are much prettier

That's why I said I don't see it happening. They can make it a high end Eco-Drive—I've bought ones up to $800 on sale—one with a 262khz Eco-Drive with radio control, perpetual cal, a bunch of sensors, sapphire etc I'd pay $1k+ no problem

Edit: I don't get the GS comparison, GS is in a whole different category that Citizen (currently) can't touch

@rosebank: Oh I confused citizen with seiko in my head. Yeh that bit makes no sense

  • This has me curious, can anyone point me to a technical article about WHY 262kHz is more accurate? All I can find is blanket statements of "it's better because it's faster". I'm an electronics engineer, and I know faster doesn't increase accuracy, but changing the crystal from a tuning-fork to an AT-cut crystal would. But I've never heard of an AT-cut crystal lower than 1MHz, and I have doubts it would fit inside a watch case.

So, just how does it achieve higher accuracy?

    • The Jet Star is powered by Bulova’s Precisionist movement, a revolutionary 8-jewel quartz mechanism vibrating at a remarkable 262kHz, accurate to 5 seconds per month with increased resistance to temperature changes, and with a sweeping seconds hand.

That's from the description, and good enough for me. I'm not an engineer so I'm not curious enough to do further research.

Same with a Grand Seiko Spring Drive, although I think they explain it better than this.

As well as that you have to change the date some months so 5s/month isn't that critical. Awesome movement and sweep.

    Probably will get cancelled

    • Why would it? The stock indicator is accurate but better not to leave it too late if you want one.

      • Because it is Jetstar 🤣

        • 😂😂😂✈️❌

    • Out of the 50+ watches I've bought from Starbuy, only one was cancelled because of inventory issues.

  • Anyone brought one but not want the bracelet? I'll trade you the black leather band from my silver dial version and a bit of cash for it.

    • Same.
Doesn't fit officially but people have tried it and seems it works.
