Kinda sucks that the price is still so high, 7800x3d's have already come near this price and ddr5+am5 mobos aren't as expensive anymore either.

What about the 5700X3D instead? That was down to $320 yesterday.

      • +6

If you're already on AM4, then go 5700X3D - its 5% to 10% slower than 5800X3D, but a lot cheaper. That ebay sale is over, but there should be another one by mid-June (based on past EOFY sales)

If you're buying a new cpu+mobo+ram, spent the small extra amount and go 7800X3D on AM5.

It's the best chip for gaming on AM4, it'll probably either never drop beyond current historical lows, or only when it's run out at End of Life. With the 5700X3D's existence, I'll guess that it'd be like a xx90 NVIDIA card, which never really drops that low even in run-out.

    Good price

it's been this price and sometimes lower since 2 years ago.

Yeah paid less for my 7800x3d $444.00 from aliexpress. Awesome works perfectly

  • This or the 5950x…. mostly use PC for productivity these days

    • +1

you already answer your own question. 5950x is a productivity powerhouse.

    • I haven't seen many deals for 5900x or 5950x. For some reason they aren't going on sale. I've got a 3900x at the moment but thinking of doing a 7800x3d upgrade since I can't find gold deal on 59xx CPUs, expensive buying the ram & mobo too though… (Although ddr5 is quite cheap right now)

5900x or 5950x production has slowed or stopped. the only reason the 5700X3D and 5800X3D are dropping is because they are making lots of them due to SERVER CPU commitments. The 5700X3D and 5800X3D are lower binned server chips that didnt meet the low power requirements so they sell them as desktop processors

The whole reason the 5700X3D even exists is because those chips failed to even reach power to speed bins of the 5800X3D.. same goes for the 5600X3D

In the future we are going to see a 7600X3D and 7700X3D :) … AMD stockpiling defective cores.. when they have enough they will package and sell them. Its FREE money for them VS literately binning them :)

productivity - if the apps you use don't really use lots of cores.. No point getting the 5950x

  • Sub-400 coming up

    • +1

That’s what I’m waiting for but by then the next gen cpu might a batter option.

    • Price has moved down about 20 bucks in the last year, more likely that they'll stop making these before we reach sub 400.

  • I have a 3900x. I mostly game. Is this a decent upgrade?

    • Yes

    • Yes

5700X3D is better value and you still get 95% of the frames the 5800X3D gives you.

I'm going to skip them all and get a 7600 when they go on sale around $200 in a few months time after 9000 series AMD chips come out

they 7600 is around as fast as a 5800X3D but uses less power VS a 5700X3D / 5800X3D

Just got my 5700X3D via the AliExpress for ~$320. The 5800X3D is just too expensive (for minor gains) when there's the 5700X3D available.
