Corsair K70 CORE RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard $135 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

80

Wired mechanical keyboard with pre-lubricated Red switches. Potentially stack with Perks to take $10 off.
It's not specifically listed as being on sale, but a half-decent discount from the current prices of a lot of other retailers currently selling it for $169.
Also available from Amazon AU for $139.

Here's a link to the RTINGS review.

Recently had the mechanical keyboard I use for work go to crap after less than a single year of use (a Cooler Master SK653, in case anyone was curious), so this was right on time for me to get something hopefully better as a replacement.

I've been using a Corsair K70 RGB MK.2 at home for gaming for about 2 years now without a hiccup yet, so hopefully the K70 CORE continues to live up to that expectation.

  • Does it come with a wrist rest? says in description no O.o

    • The model JB are advertising, CH-910971E-NA, doesn't come with a palmrest. CH-910981E-NA is the black model with palmrest

  • They have the Corsair K70 CORE SE RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Palm Rest (White) for $159 (RRP $199). Hard to tell if it's a good price. I can't find anyone else selling it.

  • I bought one of these a few weeks ago and had to return it because it had bad double typing/key chattering issues, despite following the instructions for updating firmware it was still there. Back to the old keyboard again for now as didnt want to risk it on another a replacment as apparently, it’s a known issue.

    • Started using it today, and haven't experienced anything like that yet. Fingers crossed that it doesn't become an issue.

What I do have to get used to are some of the physical differences:

      • The SK653 that I previously used (as well as the membrane keyboard supplied at work) are all low profile keys. So it's taking a bit to get used to full-sized keys at my (fixed) desk height at work.
      • I've only ever used Brown keys ever since I've started using mechanical keyboards, so I just discovered that I have a tendency to rest my fingers on the keys that wouldn't be enough pressure to pass the actuation point of Brown keys, but can be enough to sometimes accidentally trigger Red keys.
      • Follow-up after a couple of weeks of use of the K70 CORE.

        • After about a week of use, it did become evident that there was in fact a double typing ("key chattering") issue.
        • Firmware update did nothing. In fact, it being updated to the latest firmware might be when the issue went from "am I imagining it?" to "hell yes, there's definitely an issue here".
        • Changing it to a lower polling rate.
        • What did "fix" it is setting the debounce timing in the iCUE software.

For office use, setting the debounce time between 4~8ms is enough to prevent the issue from stuffing up your data entry. For a gamer, this might be a deal breaker.

As for myself, since I had already ordered for myself the Corsair K70 PRO Optical-Mechanical in the meantime, I'll be taking the K70 CORE back for a refund/credit.
