Repco 11pc Combination Spanner Set $49.95 (60% off) 8mm-19mm (Metric) with Rack

60

Good price for a decent set of spanners, Repco brand are good quality (Equivalent quality to Sidchrome, Kincrome). They usually sell out pretty quickly on these kinds of sets.

home brand as good as Sidchrome?

    • +1

Sidchrome are cheap chinese shit, same with Kincrome and Repco. These days they are all manufactured overseas and the quality between spanners in particular is non-existent.

Repco have a lifetime warranty for 1/2 the price. They just don't carry the brand name.

They are all made in the same factory (kincrome, Repco Sidchrome)

Pretty silly thing to say. Sidchrome aren't up to the same very high standard of 3 decades ago, but they are still at least middle of the road for quality, you are just regurgitating what you've read about Sidchrome on the interwebs and then exaggerating or misinterpreting it.

It's bordering on comical that you would put Sidchrome in the same category as the stuff you can find in the reject shop.

Well, if you read and comprehend my statement you wil understand that I was not putting Sidchrome in the same category as anything from the reject shop.

I am putting Sidchrome in the same category as Repco branded and Kincrome. All of which are produced in the same factory and are of equivalent quality.

I think you are just regurgitating what you've read on the Sidchrome website last week and then exaggerating or misinterpreting it for the purpose of fanboi'ing a brand name.

It's bordering on comical that you would think Sidchrome is a significantly better product.

Yes, you were. Difficulty remembering what you wrote?

You think that Sidchrome is not a significantly better product than what's found in the reject shop? You have got to be joking…

Just a note that you do not get a complete set with this - one size is missing from the set

    • -1

Thanks for the heads up, do you know which size is missing?

    • Thanks for sharing, but how do you know that?

      • My best guess would be that its an 11pc set, if the set were to contain all sizes from 8mm-19mm this is a total of 12 spanners. 11pc =/= 12 spanners

        • +1

Picked up a set this morning. The 11pc set is missing the 18mm. Pretty happy with them, however there seems to be very low stock in stores.

  • For value for money look at Fragram spanners. I bought mine in store from Tools R Us in Brighton, Vic, as I wanted to see the quality before I purchased. They are great spanners, and tough. I'm a maintenance fitter and have to crack tight, rusted bolts quite regularly. It's my opinion that Fragram are equal in strength to 'name brands' like Snap On, Stahlwille and 'old' Sidchrome. About $200 for a complete metric and imperial set of spanners.

  • i bought the 5 piece Mechpro set from Repco earlier this year for around 12 bucks, so the 11 piece for $140 or even $50 seems a lot, mine are heat treated and drop forged i can't see where the quality is that much different

    • No its hard to 'see' the quality. The quality rises from years of use on tough jobs. Garbage falls apart - ratchets stop working or jam and spanners can simply snap.

Mechpro is ok for around the home if you're not far from the hardware store to buy another spanner should one break. If you want something for trade use or a tool to last you a lifetime or simply something you can trust, listen to the experience on forums they generally ain't far from the mark.

  • I have a set of Minimax spanners and sockets with a lifetime warranty. When I broke a socket I tried to claim but couldn't find whose lifetime it covered?

  • Repco lifetime warranty > sidchrome anyway.

Sidchrome will generally find any excuse to reject warranty claims. Repco on the other hand will just swap it out so that you can get out of the shop quickly, and back to your work.

Personally, i prefer stahlwille spanners but damn they are expensive, at almost 4-5x what you pay at repco.

As someone who once worked for Repco and spent a lot of time messing around in the stock room, A lot of the mechpro branded tools seem VERY VERY similiar to the repco branded only in lesser packaging and without the life time warranty, there were a few times I purchased the mech pro tool instead. Either way they are all good. Toolies also do some decent "store brand" life time warranty tools as do Masters, this "discounted" price seems to be about on par with what you can get similiar quality tools for else where. The benefit to a Repco tool is most stores are open weekends for warranty claims and there are more repco stores than there are masters/total tools or whatever.

  • What do you guys think of Stanley tools? It is in a similar price range
