They used to run these a couple of times a year, now it's every month.
Wonder if they are having cashflow issues.

    • +1

They are opening up more and more stores. Probably a sign the business model works.

      • +2

If you haven't noticed, the jacked up the price of games in Feb24. My DDR now is $3.60 I think

          Danceflation

        • I noticed this last week actually. Money didn't seem to go as far as usual

  • +2

if only Timezone still had games worth playing.

    • +6

depends on the timezone, some are solid with good ticket earning machines. The claw machines at macquarie for the tickets are good since they arent rigged as bad as some of the other claw machines

      • How do you know they're not rigged

        • +1

you play them, ive gone to some of the nsw locations multiple times so its kind of what ive figured based off what ive been able to actually get.

          • -1

@Jollystacker: What if you're just not actually good at the machines like me and my kids

            • +2

@King Steuart: if one store i get always get stuff and the others virtually nothing, im sure that tells you enough

              • @Jollystacker: I'm sure there are settings in the machine that allows you to set how strong/sensitive the claws are. And the store set them at their discretion.

                • @nerd1: probably, some stuff just slide off claws and others just hook well

                • +4

@nerd1: Yes. You can set the payout rate on these machines.
You ever wonder why they pickup sometimes then just 'slip out' when the claw goes up? They are programmable.

      • Yeah i know. but I mean back in the day they used to also have a huge selection of proper arcade games. Now its just ticket machines or games for 5 year olds.

        • They should have more fighting games like SF, Tekken, MK, etc…

      • So based on your findings any top 5 locations or so list to try claw machines? Hope you don’t mind sharing

        • i mean in the sydney area, from my playtime experience macquarie is the best, rouse hill is okay, market city is okay, rest probs not

          • @Jollystacker: Is that because of the predefined or rigged machines with the claws that the chance of grabbing something is very slim at other venues? I haven't tried anywhere else except Top Ryde and Penrith with poor results. Maybe I will try the ones you suggested.

I've been calculating ticket earning ratio per dollar spent at a few venues. And there are literally only few machines per venue that gives you 25-35 tickets per dollar if you perform well

            • @neonlight: I assume so, some venues have probably set it to a higher difficult for the same machine. I usually do Lane Master at Parramatta because its cheap, easy and a good ticket farmer. Usually get on average at least 200 tickets a game.

Have you tried CHUNITHM or maimai? Pretty popular rhythm games most TZs should have

      • Last played Chunithm in Japan. Have not seen it in a Timezone here, but I don't make a point of checking. Good fun game though Ill give you that.

        • There's very few CHUNITHM cabinets in Australia (About 15 cabs) compared to maimai unfortunately. You can check with this

    • this is so true..haven't been timezone for awhile and I took the double credit offer during Xmas…the one in Macquarie is so small and the one in Haymarket…let's just say everything is pretty much rigged lol

  • +5

to be honest it lost its magic … I did two of the $80 reloads get $200 recently and took the kids to local Timezone. The fun lasted 45 mins lol, 3 kids 2 adults. If I paid $400 I would be not happy, even $160 was too much. The consolation was the kids won BOTH "winner takes all" booths using the last $30 of their credits lol.

  • +2

I dont think you nees to wait to double your dollars if you used the $20 voucher.

  • Can you get a duplicate card so that 2 people can use the same account?

    • Not as far as I'm aware

    • +9

You can add the card to your Google Wallet on your phone. I assume you can do the same with iPhones.

    • +1

You can also log in with the same credentials on other phones and save the card to your Google wallet via the app. I've got two phones and the physical card for one card in use for my family.

      • Can you play 2 games at a time using 1 card? No?

        • +1

Well you are just paying. I've shared a card around the family at once and you can play as many games as you pay for.

  • I assume gift cards can't be used as payment via the app? Must go in store?

    • Correct

    • +2

I've been able to use Ultimate Everyone GC for payment method in Timezone App using Apple Wallet, not sure about Google Wallet though.

  • They're great when they were new…but the cleanliness definitely leaves a lot to be desired after a few months….

    • I went to the Surfers Paradise one recently that has been there ages and it was clean and a good time!

  • +1

Most of my local Timezones have changed to iPlay :(

    • +1

iPlay sucks lol. They have very few proper arcade games and the ones they do (Maximum Tune) usually are in terrible condition :(

    • +1

I am hoping when Round1 will come to Australia.

  • Is this better than the 40 minute unlimited for $30?
    So hard to tell.

    • depends if you want tickets or not for a prize

    • The unlimited ones don't accrue points and I think don't work on the skill testers (which are most of the machines).

      • I don't think it works on blue swiper games too. So you couldn't use it for midnight tune and games like that.

  • +5

I feel sorry my kids have to experience such a subpar arcade scene. Arcades were freaking amazing back in the 90s and even in the early 00s. 90% of arcades are now just skill testers and other lame gacha type games.

    • That’s where the money….gacha. It’s a rip off model

  • 10% extra with a GC

  • So many double dollar deals I think Timezone might not be doing well perhaps

    • Quite the opposite - more cash to their pockets.

    • To be honest I think they might be using it to help with cash flow for the 2-3 new stores they opened in the past 6 months

  • +2

Anyone else having issues with the timezone app? When I open it, its stuck on a white screen.

    • Working as expected on android

    • Same issue, can't log in on the website or app.

    • Yeah, I installed for the first time and it is just whitescreening on iphone

    • Had the same issue on Android, until I followed the comment to turn off Wifi, then it (slowly) worked

  • Back in the days, imagine how many rounds you could play Street Fighter 2/Tekken/KOF with $ 200.

    • Since dreamcast came out, people realise you can play Street fighter to your hearts content without any arcade. Hence it died

  • Damn, can't reload using tz gift card

    • Yeah, is there a way to reload in the app using the TZ gift card, or the Ultimate Gift Card? Thanks

      • Gift cards Instore only.

  • Hey OzB,

Forgive me if this has already been asked before.

Can this credit be used for Laser Tag or the adult Ten Pin Bowling?
I wasn't able to see anything explicitly stated in the conditions.

  • Wheres the best timezone in perth?

  • Does that voucher mean you could pay $40 to load $120?

edit: just saw "cannot be used in conjunction with a double deal under $100" on the voucher, so yes $80 for $200 is the best ratio youll get.

    Pokies are cheaper

  • Does anyone know how the 1 free daily play works when you finally reach gold status? The terms and condition states you get 1 free play each day but only at the venue that you loaded up credit in…

Does that mean the original venue that you first bought the card in or the venue that you spend at that gets you over the threshold to achieve gold status??

E.g. Bought my card at mount gravatt, so if i load $100 at surfers paradise and reach gold status, does the 1 free play work at only surfers or only mount gravatt.

From the website: The daily FREE games that come with Gold and Platinum status are applicable to the venue that you loaded up credit in. $1 per 92 days must be spent for the daily free Yellow card reader game to be credited to your Powercard.

    • the free game applies to the venue you load $1 or more at.

So if you load $1 at surfers you'll get a free game there. However, you are not restricted to just one location. So if you also load $1 at mt gravatt, you'll get a free game there too.

    • gotta load every 90 days apparently and its store specific to that store you have loaded up in, so if you do online, nothing
