Might be worth running the risk - econnex dont have a great rep here…

    • +11

That reputation comes mainly from people who never signed up to Econnex, but read others neg comments (who may never have signed up, but read others criticism)… and so on.
So they think they should warn others based on incorrect information…😜

Most relate to "not receiving Woolies Gift Cards from Econnex".
But Econnex never sends out emails with those gift cards.
They are sent by Woolworths! So just seems a confusion by some - looking for an Econnex email instead of Woolies. Rep is willing to check, but most seem to just want to complain.

Econnex is improving & changing its systems. (At long last!)
      Now "$400 Digital Mastercard"!

Last week they sent me an SMS, alerting me that Woolworths had sent me $150 of gift cards from deal 90 days before

Had suggested this communication improvement in Deal comment to Econnex - to avoid confusion people had with "not receiving Woolies Gift Cards from Econnex".

Woolies gift cards have to be used within 90 days. A Digital Mastercard is more useful.

Never missed promised gift cards in about 3 years of signing up for these electricity Deals. Never needed to complain to get what was promised.

      • +3

Agreed.. i have sogned up three times using econnex.. always got the gift vouchers

        • +3

+1, did it 5 times, this would be my 6th

        • How did you sign up 3 times?

          • +1

            @ClaudeVL: *not at same time!
Can sign up to another offer, as long as you stay with the current retailer at least 1 month between switching. I've been doing that for years. So lost count of signups.
Check any t&c to qualify for offers.

        • Yep, I did this for an earlier deal and got the gift card. So its legit from my perspective.

      • +1

no issue getting the woolies gift card from econnex before and no issue with simply energy for credit as well. currently with simply energy and agl gas. will sign up both and see what happen

      • Agree, I have signed up 3 times before and always received my woolies vouchers. And the funny thing is, comments like this that i make people accuse me of being a Bot lol.

        • Normal from the Econnex haters😉
How could you like Econnex Deals??

Was previously accused by someone in this Deal, of working for Econnex😜

          Totally untrue! Me - work?😂
(Retired from my CBD business consultancy in my 30's to travel the world.)

Obviously that is the only possibly reason to explain why I liked receiving thousands in gift cards from Econnex, for doing so little - signing up for these Deals.

Mods took it seriously & removed the comment as a "False Accusation"!

Have been called an AI chat bot for my long detailed comments.
Will have to ask ChatGPT about that!

        • aint their rates are more expensive? at least for me? Need to consider the additional costs in staying with them a month or more depending on how long it takes to port out?

          • @OhNoUShiz: Change of electricity retailer takes days, but there is a 10 working day cooling off period in the contract with new retailer.

Rates vary, but some comments say it's more expensive.
Still there's up to $400 & $200 Welcome Credit incentives to switch retailer (for a short while)😉
            Something to consider…

            • @INFIDEL: oh yeah, $600. Do you mean you can cancel the plan within cooling period and yet have the vouchers? :)

I might consider electricity for $400.

              • +1

@OhNoUShiz: Of course not - you wouldn't even have switched retailer if left in the cooling off period of the contract.

Must remain at least a month after contract starts to receive MC for switching retailer! Check the Deal conditions

I'm planning on moving house in a month. Think there would be about problems doing this for the existing place? Don't see any minimum duration requirement in the T&C, but that seems to easy.

  • +1

i do not have gas plan with simply. am i qualify if i move gas plan here? anyone tried in the past

    • $200 welcome credit is only for electricity, not for gas.

      • not welcome credit. the $200 master card benefits.

    • +1

Can't see why not. The T&Cs does not state new customer only. I think even existing customers are eligible as long as you switch to one of the listed plans which is different to your existing plan.

New Customers - Your energy plan will start once you transfer to Simply Energy.
Existing Customers - Your energy plan will start from today (you'll still receive a cooling-off period).

  • +1

Would rather pay $600 than use Simply Energy

    • why is that?

      • +1

I like having usable electricity and not being charged for months after I've connected with another company. Read some of their online reviews.

        • +6

Simply energy double charged me for gas i paid with another provider. Its been 10 months now and havent got my $300 back yet cause they cant make up their mind who is responsible.

          • @easternculture: Did you contact the Ombudsman? Sometimes it helps them be a little more competent. After I went to the Ombudsman they gave me a $250 credit instead of them doing their job to get me $250 I was entitled to. Worst case it costs them a lot of money, which is a win in my view.

        • Thanks for mentioning this, I switched to Tango middle of last month and Simply Energy just billed me until the end of the month. I sent them a message telling them I'm not going to pay anything until they fix my bill.

          • @Miss B: Strap yourself in for that one, their customer service is horrendous.

  • +1

Was looking for electricity Deal, but am in Qld.

Still have electricity credit left with PowerShop from previous $150 electricity credit + $150 Woolies gift cards 3 months ago. Just received the gift cards.

  • if I'm already with Simply for electricity, would I get the $200 Gift card from Econnex? Doesn't seem to say anywhere it has to be a new customer.

    • you mean by adding gas plan? i am also have same question.

    • wondering the same if now switching over gas too ?

    • You will receive a welcome credit of $200 on your first electricity bill for this offer. This credit includes GST and is not redeemable for cash.
Existing Customers - Your energy plan will start from today (you'll still receive a cooling-off period).

This was found under their plan details. So I guess you may get a credit of $200 not sure about the gift card though. Also, you'd need to switch to one of the electricity plans designed for this offer.

      • Yea, not really sure. I would assume I wouldn't get the $200 credit from Simply energy as I'm already an electricity customer (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15132802/redir).

As mentioned below (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15132506/redir) seems like the 30 day for transferring gas may be a detriment anyways, would have to time it for when they do the gas meter reading. So not even sure if I would get the $200 gift card from Econnex.

I'm on the NRMA plan for electricity which was listed in the offer when going through gas.

    • looks like another comment already asked this question as well. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15132182/redir

  • +1

Can I sign up for a month and then move on?

    • Why not?

  • +2

The offer seems a little hard to parse (I read the deal text as $200+$200 which didn't match the $400+$200 title). I think it's actually offering:

$200 power bill credit (if you sign up for power only or power+gas)
up to $400 mastercard prepaid card ($200 for power only, $200 for gas only, $400 if power+gas)
(So this matches the title but not the text below it)

    This is based on
-the Econnex subtitle (You'll snag up to $200* welcome credit on your first electricity bill PLUS up to $400 Digital Mastercard.) and
-You (“Customer”) will receive $400 worth of Mastercard Digital Gift Cards when you connect to an Energy plan, subject to these Terms and Conditions.
-You (“Customer”) will receive $200 worth of Mastercard Digital Gift Cards when you connect to an Electricity Plan only, and You (“Customer”) will receive $200 worth of Mastercard Digital Gift Cards when you connect to a Gas Plan only via Econnex Comparison, subject to these Terms and Conditions.

Looks like you must stay with the plan for 30 days:

When the request for a switch or connection cannot be completed, is unsuccessful, or a request is made for the cancellation of your Electricity Plan and/or Gas Plan within the first 30 days from the date of activation, you will not be eligible to receive any Card. There may be additional fees charged to the Customer by the chosen retailer in these events.

And there's also some fine print about receiving the cards within 90-120 days, and the plan must be activated within 30 days of date of application (so if Simply/EConnex screw up and delay the transfer, you might not qualify)

I've had two dealings with Econnex, one went smoothly (gift card took ages, I think 5 months when 90-120 days was written) and one had issues (transfer to gas company took ages, didn't affect the credit). Be careful with ALL of Shopback, Topcashback, Cashrewards and Econnex. They all mess up, as the users do too (popup blocking on, forgetting the 120 day wait, blaming the referrer when the vendor was supposed to send the cards, etc.)

  • -1

Can we combine this with Cashrewards for their cash amount as well?

  • +1

Prepare to be forcefed/railroaded onto some DUD plans - only 3 offered for my area and all were ~20% more expensive than my current one through Nectr.

    • As usual - choose the provider & plan that best suits YOUR usage.

When I was with Nectr, the locked in price was a real advantage.

But for years, hopping every few months between providers in Deals like this, my bills have been effectively paid through the incentives to swap💰

So rates don't bother me - I look at the incentive, as I won't be sticking around! Plus consume little electricity, in electric only house (no solar).

With Govt "cost of living" rebates, now make about $1k/yr profit on electricity bill💰💰

      • How do you survive winter?

        • +1

Am in Qld🌞 Haven't used any heating for decades. So no heating costs.
At school we wore shorts all year round. Just wear warm clothes when needed.

  • +5

Blimey - im with AGL and assumed my rates were high (havent changed for a year or two) but these SImply Energy ones are crazy! 132c /day elec supply charge vs 104c

    • You’re getting $200 credit. That should at least offset 1-2 months worth of electricity.

      • For power only, this is $400 credit - $200 off your bill, and $200 in mastercard credit. And it looks like you only need to stay for 30 days. (I could have misread, you may need to switch gas as well, but that'd up this to $200 + $400)

For me, ignoring credits, it looks like I'll pay about 15% more in power but save 15% on gas. (power bill is higher but $600 to switch easily covers it)

        • Switch back to someone else after getting the freebies? That's my plan. Same with ISP churning or credit card churning.

          • @slankets: Is there enough around to keep churning power pretty much indefinitely with power and gas?

I have rates that I think Globird has accidentally locked in or something (they're 40% lower than what Simply offer me, 20% lower than the Globird website, it's meant to be variable though), $600 is about 4 months of bills for me but I'm wary that I'll never get my old rates back again.

I'm probably best off waiting until they finally update my rates, but $600 is a pretty good incentive.

  • These rates are very high

  • -1

Your Electricity Plan and/or Gas Plan must be activated within 30 days from the date of application.

That's a stupid condition because switching Gas could take up to 3 months

  • -1

The welcome credit stuff seems dodgy, barely any details about it.

"The welcome credit you'll receive on your initial electricity bill can vary depending on the plan you choose, and it is factored into the estimated annual cost displayed for the plan."

  • +1

I give all my data to Optus for my leaks, I don't need Ecconex helping them out. Long history by this company with poor data policy and not paying gift cards and Cashbacks. I'll be staying away.

    • -1

As I commented above, thats not correct. But people believe that.

Yes there was a leak of data years ago by a 3rd party in a NBN Deal. Not by Econnex!

Energy Deals were not affected, as they don't collect the level of personal data.

Mainly need to supply your details as shown on your energy bills to transfer to a different retailer.
That is a requirement, because people were being switched by shonky door-to-door salespeople to a different retailer without their knowledge or permission.

  • Is is a lock in contract? Or can i join, and leave once the credit is received?

    • +1

Why not? That's my plan if someone better or cheaper comes along. Can always go back to Origin or AGL.

      • Thanks for confirming!

  • Downvote for econnex. Not falling for this again

      • +1

Unsurprising that you are defending them again…

"FALSE ACCUSATION" comment was unpublished after you challenged Mods to prove your lie was correct!

So many of your responses to me were taken down by Mods as nasty Accusations. Hard to find your original allegations. Not worth wasting time on you😝

Falsely Accusing another member is a serious matter on Ozbargain!!

But you persist with your unfounded lies, by insinuating the same lie here!
            Very Nasty!

I am not or ever been associated in any way with Econnex.
I just like the inducements to switch retailers in their Energy Deals.

Have never received anything more than the thousands from Econnex Deals - just for signing up over 3 years! As any Ozbargainer could do.

Never had any problems with Econnex. Am very happy with them😊
(Although as I've said over years, their communication & explanation of t&c needs improving.)

So stop your repeated attacks on me!

Just do as you say "Gonna keep my mouth shut"!!

Replied late as I hide your many false comments!

          • @easternculture: People should consider why easternculture has such hatred of Econnex??

            Seems a vendetta against Ecconex 🔪 🔪 🔪

So what's YOUR vested interest in hating Econnex??
(Since you falsely imply & accuse me of having a vested interest!)

easternculure started repeatedly Negging & wildly criticising Econnex Deals AFTER missing an attractive Econnex energy Deal 16 months ago😝

It was your fault - arriving too late! Deal was active for days.

Like some others, I signed up hours earlier the same day😊 Received my $150 eGift Card💰

Deals closes when the merchant decides. We all likely miss out on Deals, but wisely move on!

No, you were determined to get the Deal, so you contacted Econnex!

Seems like you really wanted the Econnex Deal… Then!!

But in later Econnex Energy Deals, you were badmouthing Econnex, & making wild accusations

Nothing had changed, except youe attitude!🤔

Then attacking & Falsely Accusing me for liking Econnex energy Deals!

            So very childish!😭
            Grow up!

            Now back to ignoring easternculure!

  • +1

last time I applied got knocked back based on credit score… no issues with any other providers or with various credit cards/home loans.

    • Which energy retailer knocked you back?

    • Credit check would be done by retailer you were switching to.

Not Econnex, which passes on your information to retailer, to get their referral payment (which like other cashback sites - funds our payments).

Contact the energy retailer to understand why.

Energy bills are usually high - so retailer want to know you can pay the bill you run up.

      But process can go wrong.
If you applied to switch directly with that retailer - it's possible you would also fail their credit check.

But there are many reasons why a switch of retailer may be denied.

Common one is not signing up with exact same name as on energy bill. That automatically fails as a security measure to protect the account associated with that address.
(Some Ozbargainers don't like to share their personal information, necessary to switch retailers in Econnex Deals.
Or bill is in partners name, etc.)

    • Was that in an Econnex energy Deal like this?

Econnex NBN & SIM Deals require a higher level of ID check & possibly Credit check.
Some say equivalent to 100pts required by banks & obtaining identity documents.

I never hand over that level of ID in Deals. And never found I had a Credit check in these Energy Deals.

      • Not sure how you managed to signup without providing ID. I always had to provide driver licence.

        • Hi JoS!
Last signed up in Econnex Deal 3 months ago with PowerShop
Just received $150 Woolies gift cards💰

As with all previous Electricity Deals I've taken up - no ID required
Easier & more profitable than activating a SIM!

But then I'm a frequent user of these Deals, over 3 years.
As some suggest using fake details, maybe a requirement now to verify new users of Econnex??
To prevent Econnex referring people to retailers who won't legally be able to switch retailers - wasting everyone's time.

          • @INFIDEL: I think it depends on the retailer. If I selected Powershop then it doesn't ask for ID but does ask for direct debit details.

            • @jackofspade: Yes, all retailers I used through Econnex & other referral services required no ID. Never asked for it signing up directly with retailers like Origin.

So I may have been lucky. But surprised other retailers require it. So Econnex needs to pass on that information to retailer.

I've refused to provide Direct Debit details in the past to a different referral service. Think I arranged to provide it directly to retailer.
With Deal bill credit & Govt 'cost of living' rebates - never have any bills raised by retailers in last years😉

My point about about ID & credit checks, was that far more extensive ID checking is conducted by retailers in NBN & SIM Deals.

Gone back to my old username INFIDEL!

            • @jackofspade: As usual in Econnex Deals, some claim everything is a SCAM… So much misunderstanding & scaremongering!

POWERSHOP - What a SCAM!… they just didn't understand the offer.
Guess they left & missed out on their $100!

When first joining PowerShop, they estimate your next bill (based on average consumption in area).
Apparently, I used 1738kWh for a household of one in 35 days.
              LOL f*** powershop

Shocking⚡ if your bill is small like mine (105kWh/m ave)!

But by reading the PowerShop FAQ & comments in previous Deals…
Can submit consumption figures from previous bills. And submit actual readings (eg at end of period) & bill is recalculated. (Did both in my originally signup.)
Otherwise if a digital meter is installed, final bill its based on that. (In my later signups.)

Either way, a bill is raised at end of month, meaning it can easily be recalculated based on actual consumption supplied - before bill is due. Was about $200 less than estimated for me.

A bit more complicated, but found PowerShop customer phone service is fast & great.

Powershop installed a digital meter free. (Down side is plan is then changed to time of use billing with most retailers. Luckily for my usage, PowerShop does not have demand pricing.)

  • +1

I'm still almost $200 in credit when I signed up to simply energy electricity about 3 months ago. I wonder whether they will stack the credit on top of my existing credit.

    • You wont get credit if you are an existing simply energy customer, if i understood your comment correctly

      • Might play it safe and go with the AGL $150 credit plus Netflix offer.

  • -1

Not touching econnex. Despite all the promises and maybe even real attempt from the rep here after months of time wasting I never got my $$. So yea never again.

  • +5

I've got a recurring calendar entry on my Google calendar, at every 3 months frequency.. "Do we have the cheapest electricity and gas?" I find the time to do the Vic energy compare every 3 months. Upload bills and point to our smart meter for most accurate results. Generally who I'm with still is the cheapest each time (or maybe sometimes $10-$40 a year more expensive) than the cheapest available on that day which means a change isn't worth it.

My point is that I'm absolutely convinced going cheapest option long term beats any of these bright shiny distractions.

    Currently Tango and CovaU.
    Tango Electricity
    20.757 c/kWh
    77.000 c/day

    CovaU Gas
    93.47c/day
    2.61c/MJ

    • +1

Used to do similar, comparing latest rates on a spreadsheet. My poor brain!

Now look just at the incentives to switch, switch every few months.
Don't even bother looking ar thr rates - I won't be staying long!!

Now making a profit on my electricity bills💰

      • yeah. I understand. A few differences though that is probably enough. We would likely use above average amount of electricity and gas bill trends to be higher than electricity. Just wouldn't want the headache of switching and following up debit cards not provided a year down the track. Your situation certainly seems to work for you though. It is possible I'd do a BIT better with incentives, but I can't signup every couple of months, that would do my head in haha. But I would I'd I knew I wasn't getting the best rates.

        • Like all Deals, everyone has different requirements.

Incentives work for my very different situation:

As only occupant - its easy to control costs like energy. Not having children turning everything on…

Living in a climate not requiring expensive winter heating, & limiting summer aircon keeps energy costs low.

Lived off-grid for years so learnt to limit electricity consumption.

My average electricity bill is $50/m (no solar), offset by $150 credit when swapped 3 months ago. So effectively no bill in last 3 months.
Then the quarterly State Govt rebate of $375…
          Am in profit!

For most - an unbelievable tale😉

          • @INFIDEL: Wait how do you get the goveremt rebate?

            • @thespensa: Live in Qld!
Every household gets an electricity rebate. Some are less than mine.

We tax the coal mines to create a $10.5B surplus & give it to the public as "cost of living" rebates😊
              (What election this year?)

Govt didn't sell electricity generation & supply network. Most in Govt control.

              • @INFIDEL: Ahh that makes sense, I'm in nsw so only certain people get rebates.

  • +2

    yolo i signed up
lets see if my how long I can have free electricity

    • Signed up too. Will leave when the credits run out (which is after first bill ;-)) and after I get my MasterCard.

  • How does people deal with connection/disconnection charges while switching over these new offer. Ecconex has it on higher side
    Site Access Connection Fee:
$66.44 Incl. GST (Applicable when Move-In)
    Site Access Disconnection Fee:
$70.61 Incl. GST (Applicable when Move-Out)

Is there a way to bypass them?

    • +3

never been charged it, and ive churned a lot of providers, this is for new connections and disconnections.
a churn doesn't have that charge

      • Thank you @Wiadro. So, does that mean, this type of switch/churn is just considered as existing connection and not a new one, and thus no connection/reconnection charge?

In such scenarios, do I just need to set up new provider ? Or do I need to call Old one as well to stop the supply/disconnect ?

when i moved, i paid a disconnection fee, and the new place I paid a connection fee. otherwise all churns arent classed as a disconnection

  • Damn it literally signed up with simply energy two days ago and they've sent me welcome pack. Should have the $200 credit but will miss out on the gift card 😭

Bit the bullet, will complain in 90 days if I don't get the mastercards

  • I have 6 power meters in my place (separate bills, it’s so bad)- was an old boarding house. Any ideas if i can get 6x $200??

    • How many electricity bills do you receive for your address?
That's how many meters are registered there - available to switch.

You need to enter exactly your bill details to signup for this Deal.

There will likely be only 1 in use, so only 1 meter registered for your address.
Once a meter is disconnected, it will be removed from your address on the national system.

Contact any electricity retailer, give them your address & they can tell you what the meter number is at your address.

There are sometimes restrictions on what plan you can switch to - based on your meter number. (Wanted to change plan, but meter set up didn't allow it. Would be expensive to get electricity Distributer to change.)
