Customer service at simply energy were rude.

    • +5

      probably still are

    • +1

      Simply rude?

  • +5

Some pretty high rates would eat through the bonus and more for me.

    • -1

The rates are excellent, the only issue is that they don't have a license to sell to the new type of digital meters yet.

      • +3

I just looked up their website and their rates are extortion. 32c compared to 25c now

      • That must be the reason why my application was rejected when I tried to apply. Powershop (upgraded my meter), had to settle for AGL EV night saver.

      • 74.4c a kWh in peak times for me

      • Yes that is correct, they dont have the license to sell for connections on demand tariff, but CS person mentioned they will get it soon

      • +1

I was in the same situation,All you have to do is to ask your current retailer to switch you to flat rate from on-demand tariff. They will request the same your behalf to network operator,Endeavour,Ausgrid etc.
Will probably take 1-2 week for tariff change for your NMI.once tariff is changed you can switch easily. For me the whole process took 2 weeks to switch from powershop to simply.I had to switch from power shop because of them jumping consumption tariff but halving the FIT

      • Nope. 32c vs the 23c I currently pay with OVO and checked Vic gov enerycompare where 12 retailers are cheaper then simplyenergy

  • +5

In my post code at least it's:
    Peak time (5:00pm to 8:59pm)
    74.40c per kWh

    During Nov-Mar and Jun-Aug months

    • +5

      That's insane.

    • hummm.. get the first bill then go away?

    • dear lord!

    • Wow. I have a flat rate of 20c per kwh

      92c daily connection rate

      5.9c FIT

  • If the first bill is $70, does the remaining $130 get carried over?

    • Yes, I believe so..

    • Yes it will. Signed up 6 months back with same offer and the balance is carrying forward so far(Have solar so not much is being used from the total balance so far)

      • Same. I have $160.credit left after 5 months

        • Does your credit show up on your invoice. I just received mine and while I didn't need to pay, it also didn't display the credit balance.

    • confirm it carried forward for me

  • Has anyone signed up to previous $200/$300 bonus, churned to another electricity provider, and then was able to sign up again for the credit?

    • +6

Yeah..if it helps, Origin are offering $150 (say One Big Switch offer), and AGL offered me $175. Don't even look at the rates anymore. Just swap every bill cycle.
      P.S. (SA)

      • Nice! Looks like you've found the new credit card hopping

    • I got the credit twice without churning. Was first on non solar nrma, got fuel vouchers. Then moved to solar plan when we got it installed and got bill credit!

  • +3

As per usual with all energy deals, work out if this deal is right for you - even compared to their normal plans. Energy retailers aren't past putting a good sounding deal out with some great sounding incentives only for the specifics of the deal to be worse than other deals, even their basic plans.

I've seen things like solar deals be pushed or free energy periods for EV charging, but the daily charge, kW charge etc are all higher than their basic plans, and have seen some where it's cheaper to get the basic plan rather than the deal plan (in my specific case with my numbers)

So always do digging and make sure that for you, it's a good deal compared to their normal deals as well as other company's pricing

  • NSW only?

  • +4

I would stay away from this electricity provider. Dodgy prices, does not deliver. I’ve moved back to Ovoenergy thinking they had lower rates.

    • +2

you are not meant to stay, you get in get the credit, then move out or you will get loyal tax

      • Well, even with these credits, I would be cautious.
I once signed up for them late last year (NOV 2023), was on their EV Plan:
QLD - Simply EV Night Time Saver and 100% Carbon Neutral

Bonus: Energy Credit $150 for 1st electricity bill
Super off-peak rate discount: 6c per kwh bet 12AM and 6AM

        Daily Supply charge $1.1423500 daily
        PEAK All day - 1st 13 kwh/day $0.3361600 and Remaining usage - $0.3529900

My BILL at the time (13Nov 2023-14 Feb 2024):
        Peak: $3.97 + $0.36 + $365.50 + $35.24 (the first 13.00 kwh is 2c cheaper)
        Supply charges (93 days): $96.58
        TOTAL: $501.65

        CREDIT:
        EV one-off credit: $136.36 cr
QLD Govt Cost of Living Rebate: $137.50 cr
Super Off Peak Rate Discount: $16.67 cr

        Outstanding Payment/DUE: $245.98
(Not the correct amount and f**k knows why)

It is a 1-person household, would have used that AC but would have been mostly bet MN and 6am. I did not have to charge my car all night/day because I commute to work by bus and even if I did it was it would have only been between the MN and 6am. My appliances are mostly 5-7 energy star ratings so I don't know.

  • +1

I cancelled in January, do i qualify for the credit?

  • any idea if youd get the credit if you cancelled 3 months ago?

  • +4

Noticed in the last few electricity posts nobody mentioned that Shopback can be stacked with a lot of these if you use the 'compare a provider' deals in app. I managed to get the last two churns tracked with the extra $70 and $108.

    • great point!

    • Probably be rejected if you’ve moved on by the time the approval time has lapsed

  • +1

For my average consumption their rates are higher than my current rates by ~$250 over three months. There are heaps of better deals without any incentives. Unless you want to go into the trouble of switching monthly.

    • +2

what 'trouble'.. it's less than 15min of work every 4-8 weeks

  • If you churn away after getting the credit, is it easy to get them to pay the balance out?

    • +1

Unlikely. Better to use the credit then churn

  • +2

    $350 with union shopper

    • Thanks just jumped on this.

    • What is union shopper?

      • If you are member of any union you can join for free

        • Dang that rules me out then.

        • +1

not "any" union. NSW fire brigade union is apparently no longer affiliated with them, so I got kicked out of union shopper recently (had been a member with them for years). Maybe the unions have to pay a fee to allow you to sign up? IDK

  • This is one of the few providers that don't offer Green Power as an add-on. The only way to get it is to choose the "Pure" plan, which has much worse rates.

Note: Green Power is power generated from sustainable sources. Most providers offer "carbon neutral" power - dirty power that's been offset by carbon credits, e.g. paying an Amazon landowner to not cut down their forest.

  • my plans in QLD with AGL still with all my discounts still 19c a kw all day no off peak or on peak crap that's just the rate. its been that way for many years. so will be interesting if they do increase it nothing yet.

  • for me it says "23% below vic default including first year welcome credit" - and it pretty much matches Globird, so kinda pointless

    • +1

Not really because that's assuming that the welcome credit spread is over a year. If you stayed with them for a 2-3 months and then churned, you're probably better off.

  • +3

terrible rates in VIC, highest I’ve seen in a while. Took me a bit to click through so many links to find the actual rates in the energy fact sheet which was buried away!

    • Not great on first blush, but you have to discount them by 11% to get the true rates. Seems 5-10% more expensive than the best deals, but still a massive bargain with the $200 credit.

  • +5

what an awful website that doesn't actually say what the rates are clearly.

would avoid for this as it's clearly a marketing tactic designed to disguise and fool.

  • +3

Spent 15 minutes, yet could not find their actual rates. Strongly fishy…

  • Thanks

  • +1

FFS how hard is it to provide actual rates on the plan page. Buried somewhere else - took quite a bit to find. Even after i find them - the names of the energy fact sheet doesnt match the marketing names - I cant even tell if its the same plans.

    Vic has terrible rates.

  • +2

I got my $200 in dec/jan, then switched out to OVO. I'm in VIC, I think each month came out to be about $110, which is similar to when I was with Tango. I was $15 out of pocket after the 2 month.

    • I was with Tango for quite some time and their rates crept up over the years and no longer competitive. Just switched over to Nectr few months ago, pocketed $50 bonus so I think it's time to switch again.

Discovered Arcline through Vic energy compare website with decent rates (much lower daily supply charge), but I might go for this to get the $200 credit then churn again.

  • +1

My personal experience with Simple Energy is good. $200 credit honoured. Saved on my first bill. Able to do everything on their app so no problem .

  • Is there lock in contract?

    • Not in Vic, as it’s forbidden by law. Not sure elsewhere

  • +1

Thanks. Signed up. Don't forget CR for extra $75.

  • Oh also got $50 from wattever after sending them the first bill

  • They also have 0.12 $/kWh solar feed in which great for solar/battery set up.

  • Super expensive compared to the rates I get with Red Energy. Makes it way less appealing tbh. However, it's still a deal!

  • I am in NSW on the Endeavour network…….are there any energy companies to definitely avoid if moving plans? I am with Origin atm and thinking of going to the AGL seniors deal ($175 sign up credit and 16% lower than reference price)….will see if Origin chase me with a better deal. I had done the onebigswitch $150 paid out earlier this year for one I signed up to in Nov and even though it doesn't say anywhere, apparently they will only give one bonus credit per 12 months per account. I tried signing up for new deals since then 17th Jan (suppose to be another $150 and even had it showing in the contract) and 2nd March (the new $200 bonus deal) and they say they don't pay the bonus again.

  • So i tried signing up for this deal but i am told that they cant service my address? (NSW Ausgrid).
Digging deeper and asking questions and i get "this address can't be processed as your electricity meter tariff type is demand (N73) which is not quotable"
    Has anyone else had trouble?

    • Maybe try over the phone, they are usually more helpful there

  • if you churn before first bill will they credit you $200 on the first and final bill?

    • You won't even get an invoice (I believe)

  • Shopback have upped the cashback to $108, combined with $200 first bill credit and it's a nice offer

  • Are there exclusionary periods for utilities churn with Simply or other providers like how most CCs are 12 months?
I've just moved away from Simply after about a month after using up the $300 credit from the previous deal, do I need to wait 12 months before jumping back with them to get the $200?

    • Want to know as well. Surely someone out there would have done this.

      • +2

Worked for me, after leaving them in December.

        • +1

Awesome thanks for the confirmation John.

        • +1

          Thanks Mr Eyebrows

  • FYI this company Simply Energy has the worst customer service imaginable, calls route to India where almost useless men will just make things up if they don't know the answer or how to help. Or just answer something completely different that doesn't relate to what needs solving. Have a quick look on the productreviews website and all reviews seem to match my experience. They will rebrand to "ENGIE" soon. Also heard of many people not seeing their welcome credits. I will wait and see haha

  • Cashrewards are currently offering $110. Any reason why that wouldn't be a better deal?

    • +1

You may need to stick around for 90+ days

  • I signed up in Jan for electricity but never got a bill.
I was on the previous promo which gives $300 credit.

Just registered my account on their app but couldn’t see any bills either. My due amount is 0.

The usage also shows 0. Is this normal ?

  • Pretty sure rule is 75 days, but cash often becomes redeeemable afyer 90+.

  • Simply Energy now is Engie. The page doesn't show the $200 sign up credit. Will they still be honoured the reward???

    • Looks like it may have gone, the cashback sites need reconfiguring as well.

  • If you leave them while your account is in credit do they pay out the credit or is it forfeited?
