Yup. As @Willyslicks said, Targeted. Most likely these days supermarkets are trying all they can to change / alter the price gauging perception, which to me will happen unlikely.
Targeted specials do nothing to attract new customer, buy may attract people to loyalty programs. If people don't use loyalty membership, they don't get targeted and pay more for not being a loyal customer. In other words, no Flybuys and you pay more so Coles 'loyal' customers can get a discount. Meanwhile Coles turns over a fortune, making about 3-3.5% profit margin, which is reasonable return (I'm not saying their business is efficient, especially compared to Aldi).
Without loyalty programs we'd get more competition, increased efficiency and lower total price paid at the register. Loyalty programs make direct comparison difficult and that reduces competition.
We'd be idiots not to sign up for the supermarket when many people use loyalty programs.
Looks like it’s a code that is specific to you only
Definitely targeted, not shown up in my email like they usually do.
I don't think I've ever once been targeted by Coles for one of these higher discount deals. I return the favour by rarely shopping there. Maybe that's why. You'd think they'd try to woo new customers though?
I never get close to 40% off, highest was 10% but usually $5 off $100 spend
got 20 off 100
