People saying it would be better in BluRay in 3 2 1…

    • +6

Seinfeld is one of the rare situations where the 'lower' quality of DVD would add to the experience, rather than detract.

      • no way I love the HD transfers , its so good to have widescreen as well

        • +3

Widescreen?? So you like having the picture cropped do you??

        • -1

It was filmed in widescreen, on film I think amd recently rereleased with widescreen versions of the old 4:3 episodes. No cropping involved.

        • Widescreen in 1989 (season 1) and no cropping involved ??? No on both counts, not that there's anything wrong with that :).

There are two high-definition versions of Seinfeld. The first is that of the network television (unsyndicated) versions in the original aspect ratio of 4:3 that were downscaled for the DVD releases.[97] Syndicated broadcast stations and the cable network TBS have begun airing the syndicated version of Seinfeld in HD. Unlike the version used for the DVD, Sony Pictures cropped out the top and bottom parts of the frame, while restoring previously cropped images on the sides, from the 35 mm film source, to use the entire 16:9 frame. The TBS airings were edited to reduce running time (presumably for more advertising space); cutting out certain lines, even rearranging the stand-up scenes position in the episodes; as well as showing the credits earlier during the last scenes.[98] Amazon.com lists season one of Seinfeld in Blu-ray, though no release date has been announced. - Wiki

          Here's some example comparison shots:

          http://i.imgur.com/4RW0O.png

As you can see, there's a slight restoration of image on the left and right, but a lot of image lost at the top and bottom. The 16:9 version is actually pretty well-framed for a show that was designed to be shown in 4:3, especially compared to a lot of other shows that have had the same treatment, however there are definitely times when it's clear this isn't how it's meant to be seen.

So a blu-ray would be nice, but only if they keep the original aspect ratio.

        • -1

It doesnt look like much has been lost on the top and most off the bottom. With the shows I have seen so far and the two examples I hope its widescreen.

    • +4

It's a static camera sitcom, mostly on a couple of fairly tacky stages.

      It'd look better on VHS.

      :P

      • Betamax, for the extra crackle effects

  • 32 disc boxset

    It's lewd, lascivious, salacious, outrageous!

Where? Any DVD collection belonging to those with the most basic, superficial sense of humour.

    • +1

      the tip? ;)

  • +4

So did you tell Newman about getting that mail out of my storage?'
'Oh yeah….. yeah, he's not gonna do it.

    • "Do not bend" (evil laugh)

  • Waiting for the Blu ray release. Not that it's confirmed to happen but they've HD remastered this show for TV broadcasts. (Of which are cut down and have ads over them so recording it from the TV isn't good enough.)

  • +9

Will the blu ray be released in time for festivus?

    • A festivus for the rest of us :D

      • Well if they did it would be " another festivus miracle!!"

  • Serenity now !!!!

Not seen this as cheap ever before, most UK suppliers charging over $200… Nice find.

  • I have never watched a full episode of this show. What's it about?

    • +1

I wish I could clear the memory bank and do it all again…

    • +2

"Its a show about nothing"… one of the episodes is a faux replay of how it became a tv show. The story behind the show & characters is interesting.

"I'm out!" (slams money on the table)

    Giddy up!

  • Picked this up at JB a long time ago on a one off special for around this price. Great series & characters. :-)

I wish this entire seinfeld collection was a -> http://youtu.be/BTpmx2pjY1g?t=11s

  • I bought all 9 seasons for $5 per season back when Dick Smith was having their DVD clearance sale. Seasons 1 & 2 were in the same DVD case set so I paid $40 for the whole 9 seasons. Can't go better than that.

  • Aww why no DVD, but it's sienfeld what more could you want?

    • You mean no Blu-ray. I don't think Seinfeld was even made with high definition in mind. It's not too bad on DVD.

My good friends Art Vandelay and Dr Van Nostrand highly recommend this boxset

    "So please… a little respect…
    For I am Costanza….
    Lord of the Idiots."

A few years back, Foxtel's (back then) TV1 ran a Seinfeld marathon that went right through the Queen's birthday weekend. A continuous stream from the very first show through to the finale in sequence. It finished on the Monday night (midnight). I only slept a few hours over the 4 days.

After it finished I started to get withdrawal symptoms so I switched over to TV2 (I.e. TV1 + 2hours delay), and watched the last two hours again. I then went to bed with an empty feeling…knowing that it finished.

My favourite show of all time.

    • your awesome and I totally agree.
Just picked up my copy. More than 104 hours of amazing bonus features!

  • Who made the most appearances after the 4 main characters?
    It's not who you think.

    • was thinking newman or uncle leo!

but spoilt it using wikipedia :(

The older woman who works as the cashier at Monks diner.

      • +1

        Did you use google?

        • totally used google

        • I didn't use Google to find the answer, but I remember reading it on IMDB ages ago.

To be honest I would never have guessed it because she is more of a background character.

I would have thought that either Newman or Frank / Estelle Costanza or possibly Mr Steinbrenner.

  • Possible to get it online or price matched by another retailer you think? Big W is really out of the way. Reckon JB would do it?

    • Lucky it's Kmart not Big W.

      • SSDS. Same deal for either one, so my question still stands.

  • +1

Yeah I like Seinfeld too, will probably buy this.

I like having a couple of beers and browsing OzBargain. But i needed something to snack on, to go with beer, so i just ducked out to the shops to get a snack. I'm sick of chips so i got something different. Anyways, i'm reading some more OzBargain's, but i'm out of beer now, and you know what i've just realised…?

Picked it up at the Elizabeth St store in Melbourne. Had another 3 boxes that I could see. I'm pretty chuffed I must say :D

Good to know if Kmart is out of stock, JB don't list it on their website for some reason.
