  • 32A 7kW 5 pin Single Phase Portable EV Charger - $323

Good price. Looks like these will come down more just like ev prices in next couple of years

    • Yes very good prices.
EVs will be price parity with ICE cars in the next few years. MG4 is now under $40k - the gap is closing.

      • Now let's all hope byd seagull will be <$25k with decent range.

Don't bother, warranty will not be honoured! Bought a charger in November used mostly under cover on a concrete driveway. Stopped work moisture on screen. They said warranty will be honoured send back. Found 2 scratches on the plastic and said misused bad luck.

Customer abused product and said only used in garage nowhere near water source and when we open it to inspect it was soaking wet with water pooling inside charger, how is it possible a charger being hang up in a dry garage in a dry Australia as claimed by the customer gathers pooling water, the product is IP66 water resistant not waterproof, if you leave it long enough in the rain or immerse in water then it will start having water inside. Please exercise common sense when claiming warranty, even the NSW department of fair trading also says business is not bound to provide unlimited support when customer misused product. We are a business, we are not out to get you, we support you as much as we could but you cannot just be bullying us.

@hopper: Here, all private info have been removed, only the conversation and damaged product photos and vid included: https://photos.app.goo.gl/SvjUxQX5jkV1UFSm6 . Again, we are a business, we honour our promise with you and always aim to support you as best we could, but no-nonsense please.

              • @John Lam: I said it was near garage not in it. It is under a awning and yes rain can reach it but it doesn't pool. So water resistant non existent. We will see. Would like photo of said location? Not the photos I took and sent to you I noticed which proves the seal not broken by me but your product faulty. DO NOT BUY if you want your warranty valid.

                • +3

@bundym8: Customer said charger only been used in a garage in first email. Then said not near any water source in second email. Then said on a concrete driveway, and now under a awning and yes rain can reach ??? So which one is it. The product is IP66 class for water resistant and we have never claim any of our products to be waterproof. If you leave a IP66 class device in the rain long enough you will have water in it. Please exercise common sense when it comes to using electronic devices that are not rated for heavy or prolong water exposure.

                  • +3

@John Lam: Word of warning, the customer is highly likely to win this if he takes it to ACCC or even does a chargeback via his bank. For the sake of your business, I'd refund him or you may be liable for a hefty fine. Let me explain why…..

IP ratings are THE globally accepted standard. IP66 is very stringent, and rainfall in Australia is significantly less damaging than what is tested in IP66. IP66 tests against high pressure water jets in all directions at 100L/minute at 100kPa, which is exponentially harsher than rainfall. IP67 is fully immersion tested, and even outdoor power points do not require this rating here. IP67 is 30 minutes of immersion in 3 feet of water, so suggesting electrical items used outside in the elements need IP67 rating is an outright lie and also not consistent with Australian standards. Many (and most) electrical items and enclosures used in Australia outside directly open to the environment will be IP66 or lower, such as control boxes, circuit breaker enclosures etc.

Tesla wall chargers, often used outdoors, are not rated to this. My outdoor sockets are IP54, and have been installed for years completely open to the elements, and are absolutely fine and are fully compliant with Australia standards for outdoor use. The majority of residential outdoor lighting will also be below IP66, and will run for years without issue. Only very high end, that certainly isn't used in residential settings, will be even close to IP66 or over it.

Your website also doesn't state anywhere on the product page what the IP rating of the product is, which is a major flaw. If you don't want people using it outside the garage then state the IP rating on the product page, and add into the description that these are not suitable for outdoor use, and be fully transparent.

Of course, the customer could always have dropped it into something and had it submerged for a significant amount of time, but how would you prove that, and really that scenario would seem highly unlikely. The odds are that there is a very high chance that your product isn't actually IP66 rated or up to the supposed rating. These chargers are sold everywhere and are just a dirt cheap rebranded Chinese charger that cost dollars to make.

Looking at the photos, there's absolutely no way an IP66 rated product should have pooling water like that in it, if it truly was just rainfall hitting it even when in an fully open environment, which IP66 absolutely can be used within. In which case, for anyone else looking, I would personally steer clear of these chargers, they are simply not up to the job. You can find reviews of these exact chargers rebranded with other companies, and they have a high failure rate because they're cheap. When people buy EV chargers and charge on the road overnight, it's highly likely you will be charging in an environment that could be subject to weather (even when covered).

My advice is to spend a bit more and stick to better quality chargers with real IP ratings.

                  • @John Lam: I suggest you get a copy of IEC 60529 standard and read it carefully. You are throwing out terms and delving into areas you don't understand. Legally, the term 'waterproof' refers to full immersion, which is IP67 upwards. Rain is absolutely 100% legally not considered full immersion and so IP67 is not required. "IP66 class device in the rain long enough you will have water in it" This statement is simply not true and I'm afraid is not backed up anywhere in IEC 60529.

As a consumer, and someone with knowledge of the electrical industry and standards, if I purchased an item that is rated IP66, It's absolutely reasonable to expect it to withstand rain, and I'm certain ACCC and EESS would both 100% agree.

                    • @KRM123: .. so you don't like 15% off?
                      I don't understand the neg.

@KRM123: We appreciate your comment. We just have to point out here that you have made multitude of assumptions about our business, about the customer, about the products quality and in conclusion went ahead to give some advices that we should take as well based on those assumptions. We thank you for your advices and wish you a good Easter break with family and friends.

  • Thanks, bought the 5m extension cable for type $190 up to 22kw

    • I was surprised to see that there's actually T2-T2 daisy chain cable.

But now I wonder why it says "✅ Cable does NOT work with Tesla chargers at this time" at the last point.

Bought a charger from battery mate for $190 inc delivery and is far easier to work and can actually handle being outside in the wet.https://www.batterymate.com.au/products/ev-charging-cable-type-2-16a-3-5kw-with-au-plug-5-meter-protable-electric-vehicle-car-charger

    • +2

This one is even at a lower IP54 class for water resistant, an actual bad advice that give a wrong impression for potential EV owner. Do not buy IP54 class product to use outside in the rain thinking it will last. How do you know. Simply check the definition of IP54 class for water resistant.

      • -1

Was in the same spot as your brand and still working! I have 3 electric vehicles.

        • +1

We simply suggesting customer to manage their expectation when it comes to using IP54 device outside in the weather. But again, customers are entitled to do as they wish.

  • Glad to see the price of the 22KW 3-phase portable chargers coming down finally….
