That poster is on a weird ass crusade to defend Foxtel and it's frankly weird.

          • -6

@Mooncakes: Na, just bringing some normalcy into the conversation, rather than the unhinged lefties that have a hate boner for anything even remotely connected to their self proclaimed devil, Murdoch.

I don't even have foxtel myself, just kayo, Plex and a shared Netflix account. But I understand not everyone is going to be able to use Plex and you can't really compare piracy to legitimacy paying for content.

          • @Mooncakes: A lot of crazies around, what can you do. More and more with every year it seems.

        • -2

"fam", here is the quote OP suggested he was going to do for his nan, "Might need to setup a media server that I can control from home for her".

It pays to read so you don't end up looking like a dumbass trying to be smart.

          • @Binchicken22: I mean had you replied to that comment specifically, I might have actually seen it. Instead, you replied directly to OP’s OP about getting her set up with Netflix…

In any case I think we’re on the same page, in that setting up a half baked media server is going to be a royal PITA for the OP.

            18TB? Puh. You’re a beginner… ;)

    • Little old Nan, collateral damage in a fools battle against “Murdoch”.

Let her be. She doesn’t deserve the inconvenience.

      • Moreso the fact Australians burn their cash in the dumbest ways and the current living crisis is a symptom of this behavior. Nothing to do with Murdoch, everything to do with not giving the country to big companies but you're right, convenience is more important than the livelihoods of future generations so let's repeat the cycle when we get older and become as greedy and selfish as the boomer generation.

      • There's something called being the man in the family and acting as a family unit for success, something more Australians should learn.

  • +1

Last few years they have sent me 3 months for $25/ month for all channels, usually around August I think so may be worth holding off. Hoping for that though even that’s too much. Like this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/718897

  • +1

Qbit with search plugins enabled means you can sail the high seas without a VPN or even having to visit sites in the browser, then just plex ($0) to automatically add and label all your content to a netflix-style library interface you can stream across devices. Paying out the arse for privilege of watching ads, no thanks

    • +1

What makes you think that using the search plugin means you don’t need a VPN? Visiting torrent websites isn’t illegal. Connecting to the actual torrent itself is the illegal part, and only if the material being distributed is copyrighted. You definitely need a VPN if you want to hide your IP address while torrenting. Fortunately in Australia, the ISPs generally seem to not give a shit if people torrent copyrighted media. Regardless of this, your advice is inaccurate.

      • Because it literally means you don't need a VPN to be able to download torrent files as it bypass the government filtering that blocks most clearnet torrent sites being accessed (but not the p2p traffic itself). I don't see much relevance in your response to anything I've said. I'm not concerned about ISP love letters

        • -1

To get past the gov blocking certain sites you dont need a vpn you only need to change your DNS settings, they are only blocked at the dns level (pointless).
Qbit wont help in not getting done for torrenting. To get you for torrenting doesnt require to monitor your page access. All they have to do is connect to torrent then collect the IPs of the people connected, then they go through the ip list looking for compliant ISPs and send notices to them.
This is one of the advantages of RealDebrid, a direct connection, no ip leak.

          • @PAEz: As I said above, I don't care about being monitored by my ISP and made no claims that qbit protects against anti-piracy action or that it's able to do something a DNS change isn't. I essentially just said qbit is great for being able to browse and download in the same app and everyone wants to be a pedant and counter claims not being made

  • +1

    No Apple TV app

  • +13

    Imagine paying for 50% ads

  • Can work out ok if you want two screens (which is $53 for Kayo plus Binge), an EPG, and a functional Continue Watching feature.

  • +7

I’ve been getting free foxtel for over 2 years. They “cancelled it” but for whatever reason, I still have access

I have to say though, out of all the streaming services, probably watch Foxtel the most

    • +1

I received an "all packs" Foxtel Now subscription for free for ~4 years after signing up for a trial through Telstra! Despite cancelling the trial, I continued to receive access — Foxtel somehow thought the account was still being charged to a Telstra bill. I eventually received an automated 'your payment has failed' message and that was the end of that. Don't miss it at all.

    • I had free optus sports for about 3 years the same way. Enjoy it while it lasts.

  • Is IPL shown?

  • They're likely going to lose HBO content, with Warner's MAX looking to come to Australia.

The only reason I have this is for UKTV & I intent on moving my grandparents over to Fetch TV for the $6 solo channel pack.

    • Yep, but I think Foxtel has a contract with HBO until 2028 (?), so that's still a long way off.
I have Fetch TV with the same account shared over 3 houses, makes in a bargain (up to 3 boxes can stream at once).

  • If anyone is keen to go halves in a subscription shoot me a message

  • I wonder how many subscribers does Foxtel have?!

    • +3

Approx. 4.3 million across all their offerings.

      • -1

Fair chunk of the population really, there were 9.25m households as of the 2021 census.

Once again it goes to show the old Reddit/noisy commenters on ozbargain aren't representative of the real world.

        • "Across all their offerings" being the key factor here.

People rabbit on about the importance of the major daily newspapers as well but ignore the inflated circulation numbers (how many free copies are dumped at airports and schools).

  • All those channels and still nothing decent to watch.

  • -7

What did Rupert Murdoch do that's the cause of such consternation?

    • +21

Monopolised and destroyed legacy media with fear mongering and shady tricks in multiple continents. He is a bad person that only cares about himself.

      • +1

        Thanks for being so specific.

        • +13

Last time I checked, Australia had the 3rd most concentrated media ownership in the world, after China and Egypt.

If you think that's weird, it's because it is.

          • -1

@kiriakoz: What's weird is butthurt people downvoting a legit question. Not sure what's going on there.

            • +5

@Ham Dragon: Who cares? They probably don't think it's a legit question because you'd have to be living under a rock not to know the issues regarding Murdoch. I've chosen to take you at face value.

          • -8

            @kiriakoz:

If you think that's weird, it's because it is.

            Is it?

Because wherever you read that sounds like they have also have an agenda. In the age of the Internet where almost no-one watches legacy media anymore, how is this problem?
If you agree that Murdoch sells fear, why can you not see that the people selling fear about Murdoch are doing the exact same thing?

            • +7

@1st-Amendment: You think Australia on a list behind China and Egypt only is where we want to be in life? Because that was specifically what I was referring to here. It’s not a good thing. We’re getting a very slanted viewpoint from a billionaire with investment interests.

I’d much rather have multiple viewpoints from multiple billionaires rather than mainly just one or two.

      • -7

Monopolised and destroyed legacy media with fear mongering and shady tricks in multiple continents.

Of course.N ot CNN, MSNBC or other fake news legacy media - it was Rupert Murdoch.

The conspiracy theories people come up with are purely laughable.

        • +4

Talking about traditional media in Australia isn't the same as talking about american news media.

And if it was, its ironic that you want to decry "fake news legacy media" and pretend that Fox news isn't every bit as guilty.

      • -4

        Monopolised and destroyed legacy media

Firstly there clearly is no monopoly in media, since there are many, many major media organisations. Secondly the internet is largely responsible for destroying legacy media and this is a good thing.

with fear mongering and shady tricks in multiple continents

Isn't that almost all media by design? Controversy sells, this is not a Murdoch invention. In fact there is some irony about your comment that you have been told to fear Rupert Murdoch, which can only have come from some other fear-mongering media organisation? Do you see the irony there?

He is a bad person that only cares about himself.

Ultimately everyone only care about themselves. Even the most altruistic person who gives all their time and money to helping others only does it because it makes them feel better about themselves. ie self-interest.
Once you learn this, the world will make a lot more sense.

        • -2

Negs from lefties. Keep up the good work.

        • -3

Thanks for bringing logic to a debate based on illogical bias. You response is just perfect!

  • -1

Plex. That is all you need

    • Well… You need a lot more than just Plex to be fair… Also, you can't really compare piracy to legally paying for content. Piracy is always going to be cheaper.

    • +2

Until paying for content is a better experience than pirating it, I'm with you.

  • Does it work on hubbi?

    • No. Hubbl is for Kayo/Binge/Flash/Lifestyle.

  • You still have to pay for Fox?

  • Wow so finally no ads on foxtel 🤨

  • +4

After paying for foxtel for many years it was a very happy day when I dropped them. No Murdock media in my life.

  • I’m about too reactive my Kayo membership. So why isn’t this a good deal for me? $25 more a month to get all those extra channels.

I’m not too worried about 4K Kayo
I’m assuming F1 and Supercars is on Fox Now..
    The ads… not great

    • +3

It is a good deal if you think you'll get $24pm value out of the rest of it, movies, docos and HBO content would be the stand outs IMO, I'm sure there's more though.

Not actually a fox subscriber myself… But I don't have an unhinged view on the whole thing either like most commenters here.

  • +7

    IPTV is your friend

    F@@K Murdoch

  • Seriou question: are there still ads in the shows in these packages?

  • +2

    stremio + RD is 52 a year :)

    • I gotta look into this. What do you do for live sports? (if applicable)

      • +1

Need to get an IPTV sub. Can be abit hard to find a decent one tho

        • this does not work for live channels, its more like every subscription platform for movies/series all in one. i am yet to find a solution as good as streamio for live sports, only live sports i watch is UFC and occasionally boxing, if there is a stand out solution please point it out, IPTV or other

    • +1

He didn't sell anything to Lachlan. What are you talking about.

    • +3

Someone has been watching too much Sky News…

      • -6

At least you're not forced to pay for Sky News, unlike Their ABC.

        • +2

You pay for Sky News with murdered neurons.

  • +2

Stremio + torrentio hd + real debrid is very much worth looking into

  • +2

    Yo, ho, haul together
    Hoist the colors high
    Heave-ho, thieves and beggars
    Never shall we die

  • +2

    People still buy Foxtel?

    You learn something new everyday.

  • +2

Skim read this as $49 for 12 months, scrolled through thread and thought “hmmm, harsh feedback for the price” scrolled up again, bahahaha, yeah nah, $49/month!

  • +1

put that money towards a faster nbn package, or a new pc or phone, mesh wifi or storage.

    • Or hookers and cocaine.. still better value for money!

  • -1

It’s all 720p, it’s a terrible product, do not buy. You can get full quality Foxtel for not much more for 12 months.

  • +1

Just get binge or kayo separately. Foxtel is so 2005

    • +2

      1995

  • Pay to watch adverts, yeah nah.

  • Quality is terrible. Definitely not 1080p.

    Also (profanity) Murdoch

  • -2

You think Australia on a list behind China and Egypt only is where we want to be in life?

Media on all sides deals in controversy. That is their primary purpose. One side creates a list to tell you why you should be afraid of X, the other side tells you why you should be afraid of Y. This manufactured scaremongering is meaningless. You need to learn to ignore that stuff.

We’re getting a very slanted viewpoint from a billionaire with investment interests.

Only if you are watching it. And if you think it's slanted then why would you continue to watch it? Stop watching, the problem goes away. The boogie man no longer has any influence over you.

I’d much rather have multiple viewpoints from multiple billionaires

And you have that. Where did the opinion that 'Murdoch is bad' come from?
Billionaires are just people, and we all have opinions, so why limit it to just opinions from Billionaires? The internet has allowed us to get lots and lots of opinions from anyone from anywhere all at once, so the idea that one person can control public opinion is very outdated.

    • -2

Good luck receiving any logic from the loony left!

  • -3

It warms my heart to see that Murdoch is still laughing at all the loony left during his retirement. It's pretty obvious that the left only wants their left media to exist, so they have nobody questioning their ideologies. As long as lefties are losing it over Murdoch's ex-media, I'll continue to support them.

    • -2

Left wing politics, particularly the further left you go, can only stand up when counter arguments are censored.

Hence why the left are so quick to bring in "hate speech" laws and are extremely offended that a news outlet that leans to the right (sky news) can be allowed to exist.

  • -3

Murdoch lives rent free in the minds of the LWNJ's/Naarm Neckbeards.

I will renew my plan on Tuesday.

  • F**k Murdoch.
I support Tik Tok and the communist party of China with no human rights, poor wages and don't give a shit about the environment etc etc
You guys couldn't care less where and how your stuff is made as long as it's cheap. I wander if your jobs went the way of China if you then started to care.
    Your all hypocrites

    • human rights? hahaha

  • Anyone have any luck getting this price as an existing customer? I tried the live chat and they said no and offered 5 dollars off only?

  • The list is a little out of date. Foxtel stopped carrying the BeIN channels last year. FOX Scifi and Thriller were shown the door earlier this year. The following channels were all renamed: FOX Arena, FOX Classics, FOX Comedy, FOX Docos, FOX Showcase,,FOX Crime,FOX One, FOX Sleuth (dropping the Fox branding except Fox One to Foxtel One). FSM was renamed to Fox Sports 507.

  • Oops… your promo code has expired.
Looks like the offer is no longer valid. Keep a lookout on more offers in future.

  • +2

False Advertising. Nickelodeon and Nick Jr no longer belong to Foxtel. Nickelodeon rights were bought by Network 10 and you can find Nickelodeon on FTA channel 13. I wonder what else is not correct. I was a Foxtel customer for 20 years. I cancelled them this year. Terrible value for what you get.
