healthy life generally can't rectify genetics.

      • +25

He’s referring to ‘Healthy Life’ pharmacies

        • +6

haha omg i thought the downvotes were chemist warehouse workers

          • @Hvrd: I can't think of, WHY???

        • +16

Maybe there wouldn't be confusion if he had capitalized first letters of each word of the brand name. 🤷🏻‍♂️

          • +9

@Nillionaire: Proper nouns and punctuation are the bane of my existence. Sometimes I hand assessments back to students and ask them to give it back when they have correct capitalisation and full stops.

          • @Nillionaire: We just going to ignore the context then

            • @Hvrd: Even with the context if reads as having a healthy life having cheaper prescriptions (be healthy less medicine etc)

Even with the context it needs capitalisation so it's Healthy Life

          • +1

@Nillionaire: Hate to be an ass….. Australian english and/British english don't use z instead of s….. Probably default dictionary on the browser:P

        • You mean 'healthy life' pharmacies

    • ?? Yeah wow, people should just choose not to get sick. I mean like we don’t really need hospitals since people can choose to be healthy aye /s.

      • +3

straight outta the Paleo Pete handbook.

      • Many people do choose an unhealthy lifestyle though.

            @TheRealCher: I chose to read this :/

            • @CascadeHush: Yeah me too ..I binged on his books for a while …that was not a good headspace. It did teach me though that Dame Judi Dench is rhyming slang for a real stench.

          • @TheRealCher: longer version:

    • +2

      show me the cheaper

    • +7

Not many people can afford having a healthtier life.

If it were up to me, I would see my psych every week and wean off anti-depressant for sleep, anxiety and depression /symptoms, and take few weeks off to be in an inpatient program to reset everything. I wish I can afford at least the first part.

      • +3

Take care. I hope you feel better soon.

    • Isn't healthy life just woolies

      • Yes, but the chemist part is handled by what used to be SuperPharmacy.

        • Which was also woolies…

    • +2

HealthyLife are much cheaper than ChemistWarehouse on everything I've checked & much, much cheaper than any of my local chemists. And HealthyLife are also free shipping for any scripts.

      • May i know if Healthy Life is generally cheaper than CW on vitamins when they do 1/2 off?

      • People have to compare the actual items to confirm that.

I was sceptical so compared one script item - $16.95 vs $30 at CW. Should have got from them!

      • You just saved me a good amount of money. Thank you so much.

    • +6

      This is the HealthyLife website
      https://www.healthylife.com.au/

CW only RE-introduced free shipping on script items because of the competition from HealthyLife.

Healthy Life also give Woolworths Everyday Rewards Points.

      • I thought you had to spend $80 before it was free shipping.

        • No, every order with a prescription includes free delivery

    • +1

      I understood what you meant

  • -1

this include the magic blue pill?? gonna try i feel wierd going into the chemist and having them ask questions and being nosy lol

    • If you need it urgently then you can click and collect :)

      • its a 45 min drive to the nearest one, and blooms overcharges, i have to post a script to qld as i dont have a escript to much work!

        • -1

Few years ago, i heard blue pill can ordered without any script. Dont know if this has been changed as not my fave pill. :)

        • +2

You can post your script straight to North Perth, no need to send it to QLD.

Escript really is very simple btw.

          • @bonezAU: why north perth ?

            • +1

              @capslock janitor: healthylife.com.au

often cheaper than CW and if they aren't the cheapest they will price match, free shipping on all orders that contain prescription meds

              • @bonezAU: are they ReplyPaid like CW for paper scripts?
                https://snipboard.io/TfQ7jo.jpg

                • @capslock janitor: I'm not sure, a couple of years ago they weren't. I just ask my GP for eScripts now.

              • @bonezAU: how on Earth did they make money if the postage from Australia post must cost them a few dollars

                • @furyou: I'm sure there's still a bit of meat between the wholesale price of the meds and what the PBS pays them. There has to be, or all pharmacies would not be sustainable businesses.

Then there's non-PBS medicines (especially now with the explosion of weight loss injections) and juicy products like vitamins that have huge markups.

They certainly wouldn't be losing much money on average. Just because you might order 1x $10 medication with free delivery, that's not to say the next person could order $500 worth of stuff. Only one item needs to be a prescription and anything else you add to the order also qualifies for the free shipping.

      • That must be a technique I'm not aware of.

    • +1

      You feel weird buying Naprogesic?

  • +2

I was buying prescriptions form CW for years until they stopped the free shipping on prescriptions, good to see it back again.
    Every little bit helps.

  • +16

will undoubtedly help a lot of people who aren't able to make it into stores.

or don't want to go into a CW store… consistently one of the worst retail experience.

    • +2

Completely agree. It's awful. Way too many people.

      • +4

yes an there seems like a minimum 10min wait for prescriptions so you can wander the store..A few weeks ago there were 4 of us waiting for prescriptions and it was a 15min wait for just off the shelf stuff.

But yes not unusual for 15-20 sick people waiting around. free illness with every prescription.

        • 10min is standard for all pharmacists I have been to with the exception of chemist warehouse which is usually 40mins. Crazy when I have been taking the same meds for over 20 years and I can see it on the shelf.

          • +3

@onetwothreefour: nah the independents they grab the box, print the label and you're out the door in a few minutes.

            • +2

@M00Cow: Yep, I wish more people just use independent pharmacies. If more people knew that you can save up to 30-40 minutes of waiting + you don't get asked a billion questions about why you're 1 week early on your inhaler but the trade off is that you may have to pay $2-3 extra + sometimes they may have to order a medication for you that will arrive the next morning because they don't have stock.

        • +1

My local CW is around 30-45 minute wait for scripts.

        • +1

I get around this by using the CW app (its clunky but its only failed me once) and getting the branch (mine's Parra Westfield) to keep my script on file. Once they've matched it to my app profile, I just place an order on the app and click and collect it either on my way home or during lunch break.

The one time it failed to work, they sorted me out within 10 mins and pretty much bumped me up the queue without asking; even when I need to bring in a new script, they would say 15-20 mins but lately its been 5-10 mins even if busy.

    • Its a total sh*t show. Wait for ever to be acknowledged, they usually make no effort to ask who was waiting first then they randomly disappear for another 15 minutes. I've been tempted to unleash my inner Karen but just avoid the place now whenever possible even if I have to pay a few $ extra.

  • How do they see the script?

    • +5

eScript or you send them the paper script.

      • Was just looking at this now.
Posting a paper script in isn't much easier than going to a store to pick up..
Reply paid at least and not in a rush so may test it out.

        • how to reply paid? can you share your testing ?

          • @capslock janitor: Just order on the website and it gives you an address to send script, all pretty easy.

            • @G-rig: i mean how do we reply-paid? or do have to buy stamps to mail it ?

              • @capslock janitor: No stamps. Write the reply paid address on the envelope and post it.

Sounds like it would be easier to go to the chemist if you near one.

                • @G-rig: thanks
so i dont need a special envelope?
just write this on plain white ones ?

You'll find most retail pharmacies will deliver for free and usually on the same day.

  • Curiously, how would this be profitable for them?

    • +11

They're worth over $8billion. They make all their money from fragrances, vitamins, shop items and paying their staff pittance. They make very little from prescriptions, which is the opposite model of a regular pharmacy.

        • +5

The margins on prescription medicines in Oz are at the manufacturer and distributor level.

        • +9

You're getting it all mixed up.

The SUPPLIERS (e.g Sigma, Symbion, API etc) are the ones who can make nice margins on the medications.

The pharmacies themselves are limited on how much they can make from the medications.

One example of a "good margin" medication would be like Amoxicillin. Generic branded ones cost the pharmacy around $2-2.50. CWH would sell it for $6.70, other pharmacists maybe up to $8.50 + any dispensing fees given by the government

However, there are a lot of medications where that isn't the case like Eliquis is probably like $40 cost for the pharmacy but if you have concession then it is $7.30 for you. The only profit that is made by the pharmacy is all the various fees that the government is willing to pay for. So, that may end up being like $5-10 profit.

Margins for medications are overall pretty small for pharmacies.

    • +6

Part of it is a very long play designed to drive out smaller competitors that can't offer this service.

      • +4

        The Amazon-isation of pharmacies.

In fact, Amazon HAS gotten into the pharmacy game in the US. I

f you value your local pharmacy, use them rather than CW.

        • Walmart seems to have the cheapest pharmaceuticals in America. I wish we had Walmart in Australia (they do in Canada). Purchase noodles, apples, oxycontin, a 55 inch Television set, a sharpie marker and an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle all from the same store. That's freedom.

  • +3

essentially they bringing this back ?

    • +6

A lot of people must have stopped using them. They aren't trying this out of the goodness of their hearts.

      • +1

Yep, stopped ordering from them completely

  • +2

Good to know but this should have always been there. They brought it back because they lost a lot of customers not because they had a change of heart suddenly. They will still post billions in profit year on year even after this.

  • Can you use Gift Cards to pay for prescriptions? Might be an easy way to get 3% off

    • +2

I have used them in store may be the same online.

  • Thanks

  • I assume private (non PBS subsidized scripts) for Schedule 4 medications are eligible? Interesting that Schedule 8 meds are excluded (such as ritalin for ADDers). And I have no idea what Schedule "medical" cananbinoids belongs to; all I have seen is mention of a Special Access Scheme. They're not subsidizied by the government and very expensive compared to a months supply of anti-hypertensives or cholesterol lowering statins. However, it seems to be much easier to acquire legal pot than to obtain legal narcotics or legal stimulants (at least if you are an adult; pediatricians shower kids in stimulant prescriptions).

    • Very annoying that schedule 8s are excluded. I got my last schedule 8 script filled by posting the script to a pharmacy in QLD (I live in NSW), so no idea why Chemist Warehouse can't do the same. Meanwhile my friends with legal weed prescriptions can get it delivered to their door no problems

  • Do you know if they do compounding?

  • This is purely to do with their IPO and going onto the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX)
They’ll rip this away after they’ve made their money.
Just like if you need to return something and it’s been longer than 7 days (change of mind returns)

    • The last few companies that went IPO didnt do well, Amaysim, cashrewards, afterpay …
