How does this compare with https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-ww90t604dab-9kg-f…
Samsung is not a popular white goods brand for a reason.
LG's washing machines are better than Samsung's
And LG is probably better than overhyped FP machines as well.
Had my washing machine die on Thursday night (p.s. Do Not buy a Bosch washing machine) and did my research, including this very model.
The reviews on this, and LG front loaders is very mixed, ranging from "great" to "do not buy". Performance seems good, but there are a lot of people citing build quality issues after a few years of ownership.
As always though, people like to vent online if they've had a bad experience, so YMMV.
Why not a bosch? Which would you recommend then?
Generally, I found bosch made in Germany ones recommend online. Though, they're usually double this price.
LG seem OK, definitely better than Samsung white goods. I'm tossing up whether I'd get twice the life of an LG over a Bosch…
Mine was a 9kg Bosch. Made in Germany. Had a minor internal leak we didn't notice (no water visible outside or under the unit), and when we found it the whole base had rusted, and wasnt covered by warranty.
It just died right in the 4 year mark. The inverter motor has a 10 year warranty, but the common failure is the pc board motor controller. Cheapest replacement I could find was around $320+ shipping. Given the existing rust I didn't bother.
I'm no expert so I don't really have a recommendation. I replaced the Bosch with a Hisense 10kg HWFS1015E. Picked it up and installed it today. $597 after Shopback Cashback from The Good Guys. 3 year warranty so I'm taking a gamble on a cheaper unit after my crappy experience with the Bosch at nearly double the price.
First wash just finished. So far so good.
And I’ve just had my 6 month old Hisense hwfs1015e leak for the second time in a month ruining my floors. Came here to find a Bosch, to replace it. How ironic.
@Enzalicious: Damn. That sucks :-(.
Hopefully your Bosch experience will be better than mine. It seems my issue with the fragile (and expensive) motor controller unit happens more than it should. I expected better from a "premium" tier machine. Even the crappy Samsung bluedoor I had before it lasted much longer.
The Bosch unit itself does a really good job. Just, maybe talk the salesperson into including extended warranty to cover you for 5 years 🙂.
@Spun: I need to do the warranty dance with Hisense first. Waiting for them to come out and assess the device to see if they’ll repair it or refund me. When it works, it is a good washer. I just need it to not leak lol
I also have a Hisense heat pump dryer which is why I went with the matching washer. Dryer has worked flawlessly.
I do hope your Hisense washer experience is better than mine.
A washing machines that rusts, no thanks
I've got the 9 kg washer/dryer combo and it has been working absolutely fine for the past 3 years, 2 washes/ week and occasinally used the dryer. I also like the remote start function, so i can time it with my PV system. I didn't leave a positive review online.
Our LG is now 20 years old, no rust, runs flawless still. I've been searching for a new one for my investment property. Every single washing machine has many negative reviews so far. I wonder whether the quality level has dropped so much or people expect too much? Unlikely for latter.
Remember review sites are skewed to negative reviews.
Most people don’t go to the effort to sign up to sing praises.
My experience with LG washers has been great. Had a top loader that I used for 8 years without any issues and sold it on Gumtree. Bought a front loader that has been going strong for last 6 years with no issues.
Anyone know the the difference with the 5 vs 9 series?
The main differences:
- Maximum Spin Speed (1200/1400/1600)
- 39m vs 59m cycles (5kg)
- TurboClean 360 (Uses a short burst of water spray from a nozzle located at the front of the drum)
Thanks! unsure if its worth it LG WV9-1610W for $934 vs this one just for the faster spin..
Correction. I was thinking of the 6 series which has a 59min (5kg) cycle. The 5 series has a Quick 30 (2kg) cycle with no Quick 5kg option vs Quick 14 (2kg) and Quick 39 (5kg) cycles on the 9 series. Also 9 series has a 5 star energy/water rating vs 4.5 stars. So might be worth spending more for a 9 series.
@PiperDan: Yeah, will just grab the 9 series. thanks.

the black one…why it 300bucks cheaper??
From what I gather they don't offer a 5 series in black. The only black options are 9 and 10 series. The JB website can be a bit tricky to navigate. When you toggle the color it can automatically the change capacity as well. Eg The WV9-1408B is in clearance and when you change the color to white it also changes the capacity from 8kg to 12kg
Do they take old machine with the free delievery?
Not with standard delivery. They charged me $30 for premium delivery minus my $30 perks code so I ended up essentially getting free premium delivery
Paid $800 at TGG last weekend… oh well.
