GRIP&LENGTH

94 Points - Wine Pilot, 2024 "An utterly delicious McLaren Vale Shiraz. The colour is a vibrant dark purple. The nose is full of notes of chocolate biscuits, rich mocha and coffee grinds, with blackberries and mulberries. There is grip, length and good intensity. Real length here. Enjoy this now, but it will continue to provide pleasure for the next decade. Absolutely stonking value. Love it."

Story: The Bec Hardy range represents a modern, contemporary take on McLaren Vale with lighter, fresher styles and a balance of substance and style.

Vineyard:  This Shiraz is a blend of two different vineyards; the Lower Tintara vineyard, originally planted by Thomas Hardy in the 1880s, located on Kays Road in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale - this block of Shiraz was planted 6 years ago. The second block is Rayner's 30 year old Heritage Block in McLaren Flat. The Rayner 'Heritage' block is named as the block was planted using cuttings from some of the best local Shiraz blocks of the time - we think it's a wonderful tribute to the influential grape growers of the region including Bob Hardy and Don Oliver.

Soils: The Lower Tintara vineyard is on sandy loam soils called Maslin Sands, which are between 34 and 56 million years old. The Rayner 'Heritage' Block is planted on clay, the dominant soil type in McLaren Flat.

Harvest Date: 22 March 2023 (Lower Tintara), 28 March 2023 (Heritage Block).

Winemaking: Parcels were harvested and fermented separately in static stainless steel fermenters for 9 days on skins before pressing directly to oak. This wine was matured for 10months is a combination of both French and American hogsheads before blending and bottling.

Nose: This Shiraz has a rich chocolate nose with dark plum fruits.

Palate: The palate is a plush balance of dark red fruit flavours and generous soft mocha oak. Supple tannins give length and generosity.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2030.

Winemakers: Bec Hardy & Bec Swincer.

  • Great coupon code.

    • @MS Paint A slight double entendre, couldn't resist ;-)

  • visiting the d'Arenberg Cube reminds me of the house from 13 ghosts.

    • +1

@godofpizza you're at least one visit ahead of me, I've yet to find time to get there but Chester is unique and I'm confident you'd have had a great time :-)

Will give it a try but where to find the RRP of this?

    • I dare say a quick google serach or ChatGPT enquiry would throw up some results. Cheers! RD :-)

  • Should I order this or this? I usually prefer full-bodied Barossa shiraz. Thank you!

    • @MOMEHT Personal preference. Some people prefer a mixed pack, some folks prefer a straight twelve. If it were me, this one. Cheers! RD :-)

    • Thanks @RD ADL, bought straight 12!

Please don’t send with aramex worst service ever love your deals but puts me off ordering

    • Hi @jatz. Always happy for folks to express their preferred carrier.
Unfortunately no one carrier has sufficient capacity to maintain our volumes especially at peak times so we have to use four carriers. Always happy to work in your preference each time where we can cheers! RD :-)

      • +1

Well aramex will bring your standard down which is a shame for a great business
        Thanks again

        • @jatz always happy for you to specify a preferred carrier at the time of ordering.

The use of courier services in regional and rural Australia is not as black and white as it might appear. It’s certainly not a topic I can do justice to here but if you’re interested please feel very welcome to call me on 0433 166 181. RD :-)

          • @RD ADL: Aramax is known to be the worst courier service

            • @freeb1e4me: @freeb1e4me at the risk of me becoming boring, we simply can't operate in a regonal and rural area without access to four service providers as no one single service provider has the capacity (trucks that are big enough) to service us at peak times from McLaren Vale. If we don't use a spread of service providers, you wait longer for your wine. As I said earlier, it's not a black and white decision.

We send around 30,000 parcels each year of which 98.7% are delivered correctly and on time.

We use Australia Post, Couriers Please, Aramax, Fleurieu Logisitcs. You are more than welcome to choose anyone of those at the time of ordering.

If you're genuinely interested in alternate perspective of 14 years of broader expereince on courier services, I'm happy to take a call. :-)

              • @RD ADL: Our Aramex couriers to Canberra are great (Fyshwick Area)

  • If you want big bold Shiraz I have had some great stuff from Skye cellars around same price

    • A party at yours @123waz :-)

  • Thank! It has been a while since I bought some Bec Hardy. Last was the 2021 Lakeside Shiraz, which we have finished. Time to see how this 2023 does!

    • @Sleepycat3 thanks for the order! Enjoy! RD :-)

  • Luv a good shiraz. Ordered 2 dozens.

    • Good with a @pork chop too! Thanks mate! RD :-)

  • Having trouble getting my 20% off first purchase code. Help please

    • +1

@wanted1one that code won’t work on products that are already heavily discounted as part of the wineshedsale.com.au. :-)

  • is there a reserve version of this?
