Same price as a new 13" M3/16GB/512GB or a 15" M3/8GB/512GB, and I consider them both bad value as well. Apple really have shot themselves in the foot with these price points.

For anyone considering NPU performance for on-device AI, nothing in the Apple line-up goes close to 40 TOPS until the M2 Ultra and - presumably - the M3 Ultra.

Apple never really shoot themselves in the foot, its usually the dumb consumers.

A top of the line MacBook Pro has always been about $5K.

      • And again, despite the M3 Max, it's probably not worth it, particularly if you work with video and 3D. This might turn around a bit in the next generation at the top end, but the entry level (Air) is cooked.

    • Shot themselves in the foot isn’t quite right here when people buy the things…

      • They're gaining market share in the overall PC market, but I'd be stunned if it's far beyond the entry level model from each device category for most people (i.e. M1 Air, Mac Mini, iMac, Mac Studio).

Is this better value for money ?

    • +1

      16 is way better value!

    • Might be a bit better value, but only if you need the pro features and cooling. I think I paid the same price for my M2 15" 16/1tb.

  • interesting distinction that the airs are 13/15 and pro 14/16

Unfortunately the largest iPad Pro is only 12.9 while Samsung's Galaxy Tab Ultra is 14.6

Thats very bad value- better get a new one

  • I’ve been looking at the new Ultra 9, maybe Intel is back in the game? Could be better value for money and it’s windows 11?

    • The performance and efficiency of intel current gen CPU's is about the same as the last gen, which is not great and way off what Apple offers. They did however improve idle and low load power consumption which means you get better battery life while doing basic stuff like watching media or working on office documents. Also the in built GPU is better. However, the performance of Apple chips is still much better overall

I think they should be asking for more. I mean, it has 16gb ram. Must be worth at least three grand

Get the 16" instead from The Good Guys for $2811

Its heavy. I have the 14inch and its a brick compared to an X1

That's a MacBook Pro? This is a MacBook Air..

They're very different devices, it's not just a size thing.

      • -1

The specs online show them as being essentially the same device. How do they differ? Only stuff they list is SDD size, Memory size, chip and screen size. What makes a pro a pro?

        • The screen is a massive difference between the air and the pro. One is a standard SDR screen, the other is Mini LED HDR screen, this can be important for people creating HDR content. Also, more ports on the Pro, and supports more external screens, also has the SD card slot which is great for photographers or can be used to expand your storage.

    • Yeah I'd say that's a better deal than this one, not that this is bad.

Or you can get refurbished 16inch M1 MacBook Pro's from Reebelo for about $2.4k.. but for an extra $400 it's probably better going a new M2

Sheesh this is crazy money, last week got a deal on MBA 15" M3 16/512 for $2060

    • -2

May I ask how you did that? Cheers

Good timing and bit of fortune. Got ow to price beat jb hi-fi's 10% off for a 13" but got 15" in error.

        • +2

That’s not a deal, just lucky (and ethically questionable)

          • -6

@Randolph Duke: you would be wrong there, it was a great deal @ 15% off, the 15" upgrade was just a cherry on top that will keep me up at night! 🤣

            lol this guy…

  • Can Qualcomm and the PC manufacturers hurry up and get the Snapdragon X ARM processors finished and into windows laptops, so we can be freed from Apple’s ram and storage rort.

    • I am really wondering if the manufacturers will change premium for the Snapdragon X. I.e. same price as MBA
