1 Anker PowerCore 10,000 mAh from 2017 still going strong.

  • +22

    Humblebrag? 😂

    You have enough.

    • +22

No bragging. Trying to figure out if i need therapy for powebank addiction lol

      • +26

        Yes.

      • +3

        Definitely need therapy.

      • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/235824 remember these - I still have 3 or 4 of them. They bash every other piece of electrical apartment to bits with their sharp edges and 500g mass - many years later I think they are all still going strong.

      • The therapy you may need will depend on which cavity you "store" those powerbanks in…

      • It's the assurance you won't be out of power.

I too contemplated this. Have about 4-5, but for a few people in the house as one always gets lost or somebody uses and doesn't charge, gets left in a car etc etc.

    Next post -

    How many watches is enough?

    • +10

Dont get me started on watches.

Still have about 15 that i havent worn yet. Thanks for that @WatchNerd

    • +1

How much time do you have?

      • +18

I had a friend who had so many watches they ended up making a belt out of them. It was a complete waist of time!

        • +1

          Bahahahaha

        • +1

          thanks for the belly laugh

    • How many investment properties is enough?

  • +7

    74 - according to @jv

    • +8

I didn't actually say that was enough though…

  • +1

1075 if you need to use it for your car

  • +1

    For 1 person ??

I'd say two beefy powerbanks are enough ( I mean 26000+ mAh and 45 WHr plus powerbanks with good build quality). I dont bother buying those 10K mAh lower Whr powerbanks (they aint really useful for me).

That also generally depends on how often you gotta stay without a charger for ?

I only really need powerbank for charing my laptops at Uni or outside home on occasions that I cannot find a charger for 5-6+ hrs usage in a day. (at home, car I just charger them devices normally).

  • +1

How many do you actually need?

    • ALL OF THEM!!!!!

    • Yes.

  • i have two 210w xiaomi powerbank to charge my laptop and a 10k mah powerbank to charge my mobile when i go out without my laptop. i mean surely can buy another anker 140w pd3.1 powerbank but i believe 3 powerbank is good enough

  • Just one 20k with USB C, and you only can bring one of this in flights anyway.

I use old power bank to power on night light.

  • xiaomi high end

    xiaomi has high end products??

    • The 210w powerbank they bought came out back in 2021, still one of the best powerbank in the market, anyway xiaomi alway use sub company to release different product.

      • '210w powerbank' ?

I wondered if you meant 210Wh (watt-hour storage capacity) as opposed to 210W (instant power) so I googled and found https://www.amazon.com.au/Zmi-25000mah-QB826G-Pixelbook-Nint…

which states 210W in the title as mentioned, but when I clicked on the individual pix I saw '100w max output … USB-C', '65W USB PD', '100W max USB-C', '100W max USB-A', '45W max USB-C' - so I'll guess the maximum total concurrent charging output is then 210W

$170 on Amazon - I paid $30 for my Anker 10000mAh/35Wh, 5V=2.4A powerbank some years ago which has microUSB input and USB-A output,

and more recently picked up overseas a bargain ?$20 similar spec but wider, longer, and slimmer HIDISC which I've marked 2A input via USB-C or microUSB, and output 2A USB-C and 2A USB-A

        • I mean said 210w is because i forgot the model number and even now there isn't any powerbank is capable over 140w per port due to the pd protocol that can only handle 140w max which is available since last year, i bought my QB826G for $89 and $110 from aliexpress and amazon, i been using it for at least a year and mainly for my laptop, really good quality and i personally recommend to get one when its under $120.

  • Depends on your phone and usage. I have about six bought over the years. Now I have an s23 which I don't need to charge until I go to bed, so don't really use a powerbank anymore. Last time I went overseas, I brought a 5,000mAh as a backup but didn't end up using it.

  • +3

When I first became the Romoss rep back in 2019 they sent me every model in their Amazon store and subsequent models for the duration of being a rep. I ended up with about 40 power banks in the end. Ontop of the dozen or so I already have.

    • +2

Please seek help for your powerbank addiction.

      • +2

If only I could daisy chain them altogether to charge my Tesla. I ended up selling or giving away heaps.

  • I gave up on power banks… I decided to get a heavily discounted S23 Ultra and make my Oppo Reno2 Z a backup phone (for things like banking apps/authenticators).

The S23U has never gone below 50% power after a full day's use (and I game and watch Youtube too). Having a sufficiently powerful processor makes a big difference. The camera's also a big upgrade.

    • Until the battery degrades after a few years

      • Mines already degrading. Might get it swapped from jb hifi in june.

      • Time for the S27U then with a big trade in bonus during a sale ;-)

  • +2

    I don't have any.

  • +3

1 is plenty and only necessary as a backup.

  • +3

Why so many? I find that they degrade fast and only last about 2-4 years.

    • +4

      FOMO
Too many ozb deals. But i got them cheap, total approx the price of 3 xiaomi powerbanks i have

      • Has any of yours failed yet? I had one bloat up, still working but disposed of it due to safety reasons. Another xiaomi one, completely fail just wouldn't charge itself anymore.

    • +1

      This.

We don't really use powerbanks all too often. My wife and I have had 2 each that had died on us when we "needed" them. Between scaling back on unnecessary usage and being lucky to have enough places to charge the phones during those trips, we got by.

  • +1

Well I don't know what you are doing with them so maybe you have a good reason.

What I don't know is why you are using all of the SI prefixes there. Twenty thousand milli amp hours! 20Ah would be the normal way of specifying that.

    • +1

Most of the powerbanks specify mAh at 5v to allow comparison, but now that these are typically thousands of milliamps/hours it does read funny.
Bigger, usually 12v batteries tend to specify Ah at 12v, a hang over from SLA batteries but seems to apply regardless of battery chemistry.

And sometimes there will be big batteries specifying their capacity in Ah at 5v just to cloud the waters.

  • I recently bought the apple magsafe 10k and 20k powerbanks…

Find I'm using the 10k on my local travels and 20k at home.
If I'm going away for longer periods I'd take the 20k.

  • +2

    Errr…None…

    • +1

Would have been handy in 2016 in SA

      • Maybe, but was a pretty freaky even - remember it well as wife was in the CBD when everything went out.
From memory phones lasted until restoration no problems.

    • Same. Do not own one and never found myself thinking 'damn I wish I had a big battery in my pocket'.

  • +3

A USB adaptor for an existing collection of Ozito power tool batteries is cheaper and you can also use the batteries in the tools.

    • I did the same but it's more of an emergency thing in case of power outage

    • great idea! but is it cheaper though? these powerbanks are $10-15 and much slimmer/lighter

  • I have one no name brand one but i rarely use it.

  • +1

    Keep building up your reserves.

The central bank of power banks.

  • +3

    I have 3
Small - 5000mah, really for phone, bring this one on a night out
Medium - 10000mah USB C for phone, tablet, and small stuff top up (airpods, or camera). Rarely use this one now
Large - 20000mah USB C with 65W. keep this in my backpack and bring with me with my daily work carry. For when I need real juice and don't have an outlet nearby

    • I agree with this! anything more pp is excessive

small $18 - 5000mAh super tiny iPhone lightning powerbank which I think every iPhone user (ex 15+) should have - great for hand luggage
      https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0B176WFBN

med x 2 - Xiaomi 10,000mAh from 2015! Mushtato deal that is still going strong! (looks like this https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/156088560487)
another 10,000mAh one from ozbargain recently because I keep seeing it lol - which I gave to mum

large - 20,000mAh with 65W for laptop charging (I am on the lookout)

    • Could a medium powerbank 10,000mah with a max output of 20w charge a laptop (albeit slowly)?

      • Yes, assuming you don't have some insane gaming laptop.

It charges my macbook air m1 with no problem.

  • Zero. The correct answer is zero.

  • +3

What for? I have two 10,000 and that's more than enough for travel for 3/4 devices.

    • Clearly no kids ;-)

You need a ratio of 2 power banks per child, plus whatever else you need to power your own devices.

  • +4

    1.

    WTF are you doing.

  • +1

3, a big one (20000mah+) for laptop, a medium one (10000mah) for phone/travelling and a small one (3000mah) for a quick top up.

  • At least tree fiddy

I have a 900000mah one from eBay, I charge my Tesla with it

  • 2 x Samsung 10000 mah power banks (I use these exclusively and got them for free from Samsung as an offer posted 5 years ago here)
1 x Ambrane 15600 mah that was bought overseas

  • I have 2 Xiomis , a 16kmah and 10kmah. The 10kw was purchased in 2018 as a spare/gift but never used. When i took it out of the packaging a few weeks ago it would not charge. It took several attempts and a different charger before i got lucky and was able to get it back to full capacity. My 16kmah i frequently use as a reading light in bed, powers my mosquito zapper when i sit outside at night, and provides a source of power when travelling.

    • +1

If a powerbank is not charging try to wake up the cells with an old low current power adaptor for a few hours

      • That's what I did! I almost threw it out in despair. I'm glad i persisted. It was a new 2amp Motorola charger that resurrected it.

        • I have an sold samsung 500mA for these scenarios from a samsung s3 lol

  • I used to keep a stash (minimum of 5-10) of the thin ZMI 10,000mah at my place (they were about $17 each and i'd buy a few every time I saw them on sale) so after a big night out or something and my closer friends had low battery, I'd just give them one to make sure they had enough battery to get home safely. After covid hit, everyone stopped going out!

    • Everyone realised that going out is not cheap and staying home you save heaps of money

      • Yeh, cost is a big one these days and then also no-one really comes into the offices in the CBD that much anymore. We used to always love staying out after work. These days, it's a pain because people have to make a special trip into the CBD from home Most prefer to drive, but then driving means not many drinks. So it's a lot of effort.

        • +1

Covid screwed up this generations social habits.
Its up to the new boomers to change it now.

  • +2

2 x 10,000 mAh veektomx ones. These are small and actually very portable, dont notice them in your pockets.

    • soon you will notice your missing seeds

  • When I figured out you can wire a car usb charger into a drill battery, powerbanks became kind of passé

  • 1

  • You could never have enough.

    I have about 5 20Ah units, 3 10Ah units and a 14kw unit plus a power station I made and UPS.

  • Looks like you are an addict…. a powerbank addict.
Any addiction is not good :\

  • week worth is good mate

  • You ever concerned that if a fire started in your house - you might be fuked. A lot of people would be inc. me lol. Batteries are in a lot of devices today but these powerbanks have a larger capacity than most devices and pose a greater risk imo. I've got over a dozen devices with batteries in 1 room - consoles/tablets/phones/tools account for the majority, and even I stress about it lol

    • I never thought of that. Chances are if a house fire takes hold everything is gone, regardless of a few lithium batteries.

      • Lithium batteries accelerate a fire - how? - the battery burns fast and hot - how do we control it? I don't think you can easily, maybe throw a ton of sand on it or a fire blanket..

  • Zero.

  • The real question is, which is the one you couldn't live without? Which is the pick of the bunch?

    • +1

I couldnt live without my 1KW powerstation

  • I currently have 3 ZMI no.20’s on order as they are only $108 at the moment.
Also I have ordered an adapter for my power tool batteries ,
But I use a solar panel to charge them .
So way too many , or not enough .
    I suppose I will find out .

  • I have zero. I used to use a Limefuel power bank, which stopped holding charge. I never replaced it and have had no need to.

That thing was awesome though, it could take such a beating. My mate who worked for Tweaktown at the time drove his Commodore over his in an effort to break it but it didn't budge.

  • I need the one I can’t find, the others are all being used!

    • Or someone in the household has used it and not charged it and it's at 13%. :(

  • A few more and you can run EVs with those batteries…

  • +1

    n+1

where n is the number you currently have.

  • +1

    getting ridiculous isnt it?
why do you seriously need so many?

is it greed or bragging rights?

    • FOMO.
Like most of them i bought for max $20 (price errors or deals posted on ozbargain) except for the jump starter i paid $80 and 1kw power station for $100.

But should i stop buying , like if someone posts a 20Ah INIU for a tenner buy or not … FOMO

      • +1

I understand its only $10 - but this is just landfill. isn't it
