How Many Powerbanks Is Enough?

Interested to see you opinions on how many powerbanks (previously eneloops) is enough.

For example i have

  • 5 xiaomi Powerbanks
  • Baseus blade 20Ah
  • INIU 20Ah
  • INIU 10Ah
  • Kogan 10Ah ( has in total 3 but sold 2 recently on fb marketplace)
  • Samsung 10Ah
  • Gooloo jump start (thats essentially an emergency 16Ah 100watt powerbank)
  • Powerstation 1000Wh

        • Nah, apprently iniu are using good quality components with 83% efficiency as per an ozbargainer that did some testing

  • it mostly depends on the outputs and charging input - and I'm trying to move to all USB-C with a few little A-to-C converters.

I have a Xiaomi 10k mAh slim one that only has USB-A outputs (micro-usb power input).

Charmast Power Bank 23800mAh that has 1 x USB-C PD output, 3 x USB-A quickcharge capable ports. Micro and C for input.

I liked a kmart deal that was on here with a Qi output, that was super handy

  • I have a bunch of Xiaomi’s:
    - 10k
    - 20k
    - 30k

I don’t use the 30k much because it’s bulky. The 10k is always in my work backpack and mainly used in emergencies. The 20k can charge my laptop and is placed as an accessory in my laptop bag, but is rarely used.

If you have some use for all of them, why not?

  • i have some 10000mah and 20000mah around the house connected to usb motion sensor lights as basic diy cheapo sensor lighting in the house.. mainly to get to the toilet and fridge and front of house.

so this way i only charge the power bank like once a year maybe not even they last a long long time.

i think i bought some from kmart and the rest from ebay but the very first one was a nice romoss 30000mah i believe which honestly i dont think i will ever have to charge for the sensor light use case.

honestly im curious if the led lights or batteries will die out first.. probably the lights.. they beat the xiaomi wall motion sensor lights that is for sure i think they finally ran out of battery this year and getting more aa/aaa batteries is a pain

yeah if anyone else has cool use cases for power banks let me know i think i have some smaller ones left around like 5000-8000mah finger sized ones

the motion sensor system worked a treat when our switchboard basically shorted itself out and died and we were without power for a few days or weeks cant remember now this was last year june julyish and yeah we basically had to go around the house with torches and lamps all caveman style.. my motion sensor light system then really had a field day or night i should say

    rip our fridge tho

  • 'how many powerbanks (previously eneloops) is enough'

hmm - zero if you don't need any

one was enough for my phone when travelling

two was enough for 2 phones and 2 pocket wifi when travelling (to get through a long day)

last trip with new iPhone PM15 with an eSIM I didn't need a powerbank at all

    so - swings and roundabouts

  • How do you get rid of power banks that you no longer need?

Nobody on FB marketplace want it even though it's free.

How do I dispose of it safely? Officeworks don't accept power banks.

    • I sold 2 x kogan 10Ah for $20 each on marketplace

  • 1x Sony 6, 2x free Samsung 10, 2x $1 Golf 10; 2x ZMIs 20, 1x Baseus 30.

I've given away one of the Golfs, take one of the 10 ones for long days out. Last three were price errors/cheap, probably didn't need but we go camping a couple of times a year and bring two bigger ones, which will be more necessary as the kids get older and we camp for longer. When not in use they power LED reading lights at night.

When I had the first three, the suburb had a 4-5 day power outage when a truck hit a power pole and it was a pain in the butt to take them to the library to charge every day. That's how I partially justified the bigger ones. Still, haven't bought anymore since, and won't.

  • When you can power your house for a couple of days.

  • At least one more than you own. Simple.

  • I have a variety because when cycling (especially bikepacking) I want to only take small powerbanks (maybe 1 or 2 10Ah), but camping I'll take much bigger ones like 20Ah or 30Ah. Saying that, the car has a 120Ah lithium battery connected to a solar panel and the fridge, so easy to charge devices from that.

Like others have said, I'm moving everything over to USB-C, so will hand any which don't have at least 1 USB-C input and output to the kids.

  • @easternculture Noticed you don't have Anker 737 Powerbank. Hope you got one from today's deal 😀
