  • Have not worked on my own vehicle before, but would this be suitable for use if I needed access to my car's undercarriage?

    • +3

Yes, i have these for quick oil changes , ive used them twice so far and they seem to be solid

      • Cheers, will need to replace some plastic covering for the undercarriage.

        • +4

Just do it for free on the street. Park your car 3/4 on the road and 1/4 on a kerb. I used to do oil changes this way when I was 18 and couldn't afford stuff. Gives you plenty of clearance under the car.

          Like this

          • +11

@MS Paint: you don't even need to catch the oil, it drains down the kerb

          • @MS Paint: Ingenious haha!

          • +1

@MS Paint: Aternatively, buy these and do it from the comfort of your own garage or driveway!

Small price to pay to not have to lie down in a literal gutter.

          • @MS Paint: You mean for forty years.. aint no way

          • @MS Paint: I've been putting my oil in same bottle I used to fill my car and taking it to SCA like an idiot. The drain is literally right there as well.

            • @spacemannn: Obvious laugh but putting oil down any drain is like an environmental war crime

Also the thing I find annoying about this method when I do it is the kerb and street are sloped so it’s hard to accurately refill your oil to level.

        • Exactly how I do oil and filter changes.

          • @Frankly Frankie: Genuine question, does all the oil drain out properly when the car is tilted back on ramps or is a level hoist/pit better like at a workshop?

            • +2

@Nominal: Depends on the location of the sump plug. If it's in the rear - yes. If it's on the side - no (but you get the majority of it)

            • +1

@Nominal: I was responding to Muzeeb who changes oil on the street.
My home now doesn't have a footpath so I lift the front with 2 x jacks.
Current car oil plug is on rear of sump so front lift would assist drain. YMMV

      • what about a caravan for levelling?

        • +2

Just get proper caravan levellers. The have more wheel indents that allow for greater stability.

  • Assume you could get 2 sets to elevate all 4 wheels?

    • +3

I'm not sure how you would manouver both the front AND rear of the car onto four of these, as they are designed to be driven onto.

      • +3

Thought of this also but the ramp height is 21cm and my small car clearance in front of rear wheels is 24cm so I guess just place 4 ramps in front of the wheels and drive forwards? Not ever done it so don't know if there's anything that makes this impractical.

        • +3

Yeah that could work! I neglected to consider that the ramps could be put in front of the rear wheels. 🤦

          • @magic8ballgag: Exactly - place ramps directly in front of tires then just drive the car forward (or backwards) on to the ramps.

  • +2

just got these, top tip put your car mats underneath so it can help stop it from slipping when you drive up on them

  • Anyone tried this with hatch/sedan car? would like to know if doesn't hit the lower part of the of the body near the front wheels.

    • +1

Depends on your car. Most cars will easily drive onto these without hitting. My car has a body kit with a very low front apron, so I have some Aeroflow low profile ramps.

  • -1

I've looked at the thumbnail, and I'm convinced the title is wrong

    These are doorstops

  • how do you line them up so your tyres don't go over the side?

    • +7

Drive car to where you want to work on it, place ramps under car directly in front of tyres, drive up.
Not being rude, but if you're not sure how to drive onto ramps, I would suggest leaving your car with mechanics.

    • +1

Turn steering wheel to straight ahead position.
Position ramp in front of tyre centrally and line it up by eye.
      Send it.

  • Mmm would these work for a ford focus 2012 trend to change oil?

Seems much easier then pulling the jack out and then putting on stands plus price seems cheap

    • +1

      Manual or automatic?

      • Automatic

      • I couldn’t drive a manual for the life of me haha unfortunately

  • +1

    Are these plastic?

    • +1

Considering a pair weighs only 8kg, I'm going to say yes.

      • -2

So 8kg of plastic is holding 2000kg off the ground, and you're going to get under it.
Next, you'll be telling me that a spider's web is stronger than steel.

        • If they weren't strong enough to support the advertised weight, they wouldn't be available for sale.

They would have to be faulty to be unsafe, and the chances of this being your demise is probably far lower other threats we face on a daily basis.

        • Carbon fibre has entered the chat

        • Spider's web is stronger than steel.

          • @figarow: I'm yet to see any car ramps made of spider's web.

        • I hate to tell you but your car tyres probably weigh less than 8kg of rubber and they keep your car and rims off the ground. And you shouldn't get under any car without a jack stand, it doesn't matter what the ramps are made out of.

          • @Tim349850: Thanks for supporting my position, afterall, I'm yet to see any jack stands made of plastic.

  • No way would I buy plastic ramps.
Most plastics get brittle as it ages especially if left out in the sun.

    • This is just to get you to buy the jack stands to put under it as safety back up

  • I have these they do the job well enough! I still suggest if you can have jackstand or a the spare wheel under just in case

I'm waiting for the lowest profile ones to go on sale as my other cars front lips hit on these

  • Buy the metal ones if over 30yo plastic is for kids.

  • Now $120
