Prices listed include carry on luggage only.

How much does it cost to add luggage and meals?

    • +1

      Depends. Beef or cow?

    • +4

$74 each way so about $150 extra if you wanted 20Kg and a meal

        • +2

Yeah if you add 30Kg its even more so might be better to fly a better airline than Scoot if going such a long distance.

        • +3

20 kgs has been sufficient for me in the past three trips (September).

            • +17

@jv: That's why I said it is sufficient for me

            • +5

@jv: Damn do you not wash your clothes whilst over there? 20kg would be heaps, unless your massively obese, or don’t wash. 20kg and carry on

              • -8

                @BatmanAU:

                20kg would be heaps

                Not really…

                Shoes alone are over 5kg.

                • @jv: I stg everytime I see you on ozb you're just being a (profanity) with the attitude of a teenage girl… Ungrateful asf.

Brother (or sister) you're an ozbargainer, same like this rest if us, just chill out and enjoy the deal if it's for you. If not move on

                • @jv: Try wearing them on your feet. It’s free.

              • +2

@BatmanAU: A lot of the LCCs in Europe are capped at 20kgs without copping a surcharge (Easyjet the nice exception at 23kgs), so if you're arriving with a lot more than that, it will take some luggage-management skills. Yep, no limit on EU trains, but it's not enjoyable lifting heavy suitcases on and off trains and trying to find storage spots.

                • +2

@Charlie Dont Surf: I couldnt think of anything worse, dragging around heavy luggage, most times im pushing 12kg with a laptop and a few other electrics (and no motorised ones either btw)

  • The worst airline I have ever flown with.

    • +23

Ah but you have flown with them.

    • What was bad? I have flown with them for 10+ times and really only had issue 1 time where they needed to bring in a different plane, so delayed for 10hrs.

At this price range (budget airline) it is heaps better IMO compared to Jetstar, AirAsia (And X) or god forbid Cebu…

      • Then you got super lucky because they are one of the worst airlines I've ever flown

        • -1

Worst in what measurable way (compared to others please)

    Nothing from Brisbane as always

    • +1

Their Singaore Airlines owner is making way too much money out of Brisbane to have discounted airfares.

They stopped out of GC with Scoot but capacity is still an issue so prices are high

  • +2

their seats was really bad…I'd rather pay more to fly a full service one.

    • their seats was really bad…

      ✈️

      • haha good findings!

  • +1

Scoot used to be pretty good but over the last 10 years, standards, timeliness and quality have all gone downhill.

    • That's an understatement.

4 hour flight delay, and 3 day luggage lost. Absolutely pathetic airline

  • Scoot or China Southern to Japan? Anyone have a strong opinion one way or the other?

    • +1

China Southern for sure. It's the full service airline.

    • china southern

    • +1

      China Airlines

    • I'm flying CS does ttime in a few months all the way to Rome. Seats have good width but are a bit narrow at the shoulders.

  • +2

24-32hrs to get to Taipei which what is normally a 8hr flight. Really isn't worth it

    • There's up to 4 Scoot flights a day SIN to TPE…I would imagine booking a flight closer to when you land will be better but just pay a bit more.

I am going to try transiting thru Denpasar next time (Jetstar or Garuda) then China Airlines to TPE (6.5hrs only)!

      • I am in BNE so it isn't really worth it as I'd have to go to SYD

      • +1

If you transit thur Denpasar and have to go thur immigration and enter the country and re check in your be up for $50 visa!!

        • Twice!

        • Good point. I didn't know they introduced this visa fee. Last time I went precovid it was visa on landing and free

    • Don't think you can fly direct to Taipei? Most stopover in HK or SIN?

      • Lots of direct flights. China Airlines and EVA (EVA from Brisbane only)

        • Thanks, $1200 return on China Airlines which isn't too bad

  • no QLD?

  • +6

Scoot is fine. You get what you pay for, just like every other budget airline.

One advantage is that they have 10kg carry on as well, so as long as you decide on food prior, no additional luggage and entertainment, you are good.

    • +2

This, I prefer to travel without checked luggage (quicker, no chance of lost luggage, direct to gate boarding, etc.) so the 10kgs is a nice bonus, most other budget and some full service carriers only include 7kgs carry on (to date I've never had them check my luggage weight).

      • Curious to know what you wear on your trips? How about toiletries etc, do you just buy at your destination?

        • +1

Somewhere like Asia for a week is pretty doable with 10kg, especially if you intend to sit by the pool or on a beach for most of it. T-shirts, shorts, few shirts, couple of pairs of shoes and a few bits and pieces and you’re set.

        • +1

I just wear regular clothes? Toiletries etc I just put in my carry on - you can take as many 100mL bottles as you want as long as they fit in the ziplock bag. Most hotels have soaps/shampoo/conditioner/tooth paste but I still take toothpaste for at the airport/layovers. I always take my own hair products, aftershave and cologne. I think many people assume you can’t take aerosol deodorants but you can, can also take stick deod which isn’t counted as a liquid. Plus domestic flights often have no liquid restrictions.

Guess my other tip is that I wear any heavy clothes (and sometimes get changed on the plane) - this is usually things like boots and overcoats/jumpers which can be a few kgs in a bag but 0kgs on your body.

  • +1

DO NOT under any circumstances use scoot. I am on holidays and they have "lost" my bags in Singapore 3 days ago and I still haven't gotten them back.

Not only that the flight from Melbourne was delayed 4 hours.

Pay a bit extra and use ANY Other airline.

  • +1

How do i find the flights other than may and april.

Looking for melb to south korea either nov or jan.

Happy to stop in china for a dew days

  • They don't fly from Gold Coast any more?

  • +4

As a connoisseur of budget airlines I would have to say Scoot is definitely the worst internationally - there is no water on board unless you buy a bottle - at least Jetstar gives you free water top-ups through out an international flight! And me being cheap I'm not paying $5 once my drink bottle runs out lol.

Also, they do everything they can to make you stay in your seat. I was in the middle seat from Japan to Singapore between two large men and the recline function was broken, so instead of letting me move to another open seat they spent 20 minutes trying to fix it before finally relenting and allowing me to move to an aisle seat without paying.

And now a checked bag is $115 each way, not $70 so you may as well go with a full service airline if you want to take luggage.

  • +5

I did a trip Sydney Singapore a month ago with scoot, the only thing I was really not happy about was the fact that on a 7-9h flight they wouldn't give any free water. Having to buy water on such a long journey is outrageous even for a budget airline.

I don't mind paying extra for luggage / entertainment and co, delays happen, but water is my limit

    • I try NOT to drink the onboard tank carried water at all costs. Hot water included. Bad experience(s) of getting gastro from it. BYO before you get on (after security).

  • You really need to weigh up the 'price' of these LCC compared to their premium counterparts. They're really not much cheaper after you've considered absolute essentials, like food and baggage.

Scoot is advertising SYD-ATH 21-31 May flight for $1.1k.
Flight/time changes $67 (essential and included in most premium airlines).
    25kg bags $164
Total price $1.4k. Have not considered seating costs.

Same date range - ETH $1,892 (24/27hrs). 40kg bags and meals included, although have not considered seating costs. Although Etihad is one of the lower tiered premiums, this is a way better deal for $500 more.

I'm always an economy > business person given the 3-4x additional cost, however that is a clear disparity between increased comfort/price. Horrible economy vs somewhat comfortable economy for $500 is negligible.

If you're travelling to the other side of the world and $1k will tip you over your budget, you might be better off not travelling

    • +3

Might not be about tipping over the budget but I'd rather spend that extra $1k at the destination than on the plane

      • +1

I agree, and that is my mantra on every trip, but the 'spending where money is better spent' must be considered within reason.

In my example above, the difference is $500. To save $500 by taking on extreme discomfort over 38 flyable hours seems a horrible use of money. Spending $2k or $8k on economy or business is a very different argument of spending where money is better spent.

I've flown Scoot and Jetstar internationally and both were experiences I'd like to never repeat :)

        • +1

It has to be noted that Athens airport, like Berlin, have less international services from Asia compared say CDG in Paris, so its prices can be a bit more inflated.

I did a dummy booking changing ATH for CDG and it was only like $200 more for a full service Chinese airline, where you get baggage, usually a better seat (as Scoot use a budget seat without headrest) and catering.

With Scoot you're going to be paying way more then the entry level price as you'll at least need to eat and drink and when you limited to expensive Airport options, you can easily spend more money they you think.

  • +1

Surely the recent Air China deal for $100-200 more trumps this. Full service, baggage included. For my money, Scoot has priced themselves out of the market - as a low-cost carrier, they should be just that - LOW COST. If a full-service airline can get real close, I'll take that option every time.
I recently took Air China to Europe - and it was fine - although I didn't appreciate a hoity-toity hostess believing that 3 x 300ml beers was too much on a long haul and saying they'd run out of beer (and wine). Oddly, the other cabin staff seemed to have plenty of supply.
Not as good as Hainan (food or service) - far from it - but still full service.
Yeah, we flew over Russian, but it's Ukraine that shot down a passenger jet (albeit with Russian equipment) from memory.
