    $286.52 + $15.46 Shipping = $301.98

Centrecom is $319 with free shipping.
    MSY $319
    CPL $319

I would pull the trigger if this was free delivery.

Why would you buy this over a N100 nux size pc, specs on this seem very low for the price.

Mainly for the proprietary Apps that work on it to stream and store from your personal device.

      • You can run Synology DSM on other hardware.

        • Really??? Is it seamless?

@Prodev3r: No, not really. You may hear from some tinkerers that it is, but for an ordinary customer, there is huge difference between buying box which works straight away, or fiddling around with your own metal, different firmwares and bootloaders, and then worry during every software update, if something fails spectacularly.
IMHO, if person is capable to setting up xpenology on custom hardware, they could be as well better off with a different system (unraid etc) which will not limit them as DSM does.

With 1 Gig of RAM and a Realtek ARM processor you won't be running much.

These low end devices are really only suitable as a storage or onsite backup.

        • One good use case is as iOS remote photos backup (from iPhone) and then syncing that NAS folder to your old pixel phone for unlimited photo backups.

        • Surveillance Station, PC backups, file sync from phones etc, cloud sync, Radius, DNS, VPN, router, Download Station and email server are all things I've used mine for. The simplicity of setup is worth it over what a generic PC (which yes could be done, but more of a faff I suspect).

    • That's what I was thinking

  • I have this, I’d pay the extra for one that supports docker so you can schedule a speedtest to keep an eye on your isp, this one doesn’t.

  • What is the most cost effective way to backup photos rather than icloud? My parents had tons of photo in their iPhone and looking for some way to backup their photos rather than transfer it to Mac. They are not really tech savy

    • I use my Synology to take local backups of my phone photos. Pretty simple to set up.
