  • Are these Android friendly or Samsung specific ?

    • Do these have UWB?

      • Yup, best tags on the market right now, but need a galaxy phone

        • Specs says no

          • +8

@hopper: It does but it requires a Samsung phone with UWB. The base model S23/S24 doesn't have it and you need the plus or ultra.

      Samsung specific

      • Bugger, Pixel user.

        • there are rumours on the internet about Google releasing it's own tracker. Look out for if that releases. The problem with Tile is it will only ping phones that have the Tile app installed, not all Apple/Samsung devices like AirTags/SmartTags which have a much larger set of devices available everywhere.

          • +2

@shxhshzhz: They're not rumours any more, Google is literally just waiting for Apple to add anti-stalking support for their tracker network to iOS before they release it to prevent iPhone users from being tracked by them.

Apple is happy to drag their feet of course, since Android's larger user base will give it the edge. They'll probably release it with iOS 18 later this year.

            • @eug: This is welcome news - I am hoping to switch back to Android but I am waiting for the end of the year to see what is announced / released.

  • What do people use these for?

    • +6

      Tracking luggage on overseas flights

      • Yeah I figured that but anything else?

For the luggage, let's say your suitcase gets lost… yes you know where it roughly is but how can that help you?

Actually I just read the product description:
"Equipped with Bluetooth Low Energy and ultra-wideband technology, these compact 28.8mm x 52.44mm x 8mm tags pair with the SmartThings Find app to track items up to 120 metres away"
Surely that is not correct. I thought this was GPS based and certainly worked over further than 120m?

        • +3

It relies on other phones on Samsung's network reporting location.

        • +8

Yeah I figured that but anything else?

You can use them as a keychain so you can find your keys easily. If your wallet's coin pouch is big enough you can put one in there. You can also attach it to a pet or a bike; there are attachment accessories for that. You can also put them in camera bags, backpacks, and handbags. If they get stolen at least you have a period of time where they're trackable. If the thief just wants the cash in your wallet at least you can still find your ID and everything else.

You could put them in a car but they're not really meant for that sort of use.

You can do what this guy did. His full video is here.

Also when waiting to pick up your luggage at the carousel you can set your phone to inform you when the tag is within range. That way you don't have to stare at every bag that comes out, you can sit back until you get a notification before you start looking.

          • @eug: 👍

Yep, can confirm this worked really well using UWB on my S23+ while waiting at a carousel.

Very useful while playing a game of laser tag

      Tracking cheating spouses

    • +1

Tracking expensive equipment or vehicles, with the apple tags you can easily remove the speaker and hide it within your motorcycle in case it gets nicked.

    • +3

keys, pets, ebikes… anything you wouldnt really wanna lose

    • Put it in your spouse's car.

    • +3

I have one on each of my set of car keys. I use them in luggage and bags when I travel. And sometimes I'll put one in my 1 year old's backpack when we're out at busy places or events.

    • +1

Wife's car so she can find it in the carpark

    • Keys and wallet/handbag.

  • What's the Pixel equivalent ?

    Whats the battery life

    • Up to 500 days

  • better than Apple tags?

    • +2

Depends if you have an apple or a Samsung to be honest

    • +1

Not sure if much has changed since this comparison of the previous generation.

  • +5

I painted one of these in pretty colours and gave to my wife as a necklace.

    • +3

Has she found herself as yet?

  • +4

In hindsight I should never have purchased from digidirect with their misleading stock debacle and just waited to get this instead.

  • Can't seem to get click n collect in qld or vic…

  • Shows $99 +$5 delivery for me. Purchased a pack for $104 delivered. No C&C seems to be available in Sydney metro.

    • Probably just glitched out. Their online ordering is atrocious and you either have to call up for a c&c quote or just go in store and they take quite a while to process it

  • +1

These are getting cheaper and cheaper, which is great. They should be the same price as Apple airtags.

  • +1

Used this for a couple of months now for car keys, and waiting for the next model (is ever) because

    1) gave incorrect location history once (one data point being >30 km away within a few mins)

    2) says that it hasnt been used for a while therefore inactive (ie unable to locate or have location history) - when i had literally used the ring function the same morning.

    The later happens more frequently

    • 2) happens with apple also

    • Are these any good to locate car keys?

      • Has a "speaker" inside of it that can ring from your phone, so yep. Real world tracking also helps narrow down the location.

  • Should have waited for this deal, still not received these from Digidirect ordered over a month ago….

  • +1

No anual fees? We use Tile and its anoying when they are not seen because the tile is in a remote airport where nobody has the tile app…

We were glad to know where our luggage was when it didint arrive for 3 days, but the airline couldn't help us despite us telling them where it was!

    • +2

No fees at all. And it appears the Samsung network providers better coverage/updates compared to the Apple network (based on comparisons and my own usage).

      • I wouldn't say it's better… but it still is pretty good.

  • $18 freight charge

*Your big and bulky item(s) will be delivered on the preferred delivery date selected below. Any parcelised products will be delivered separately.

What the…..how big are these things 🤷

    • That's odd. Mine were $5 delivered and it looks like they're coming from VIC to NSW.

      • Delivery to country WA. I thought the $18 freight charge was extortionately high.

Regular TGG have posted much bigger things for a flat rate $10

  • Will it fit in a fuel cap?

  • Mine shipped this afternoon

  • +1

Thanks, bought the 4 pack, BTW delivery $5.

  • Seems to be in stock for pickup, but my order got cancelled. $5 delivery it is.

  • How do we get access to Good Guys Commercial?
