  • First Post so go easy please 😬

If it's a watch that needs recharge everyday, it needs some rework.

    • yeah I hear you, i bit the bullet, I'm hoping it lasts a 12 hrs shift on some conservative battery settings….🫠

      • +1

lasts for 1.5 days. workout modes drain the battery because they constantly check your heartrate. other things like taking phone calls on your watch obviously also drain the battery.

        • +12

My Garmin checks my heartrate 24/7 and lasts almost two weeks. Surely we should be demanding more than a day and a bit when the battery health is at its best.

          • +1

@ginormousgiraffe: My Garmin Instinct solar lasts 2.5 weeks with a bit of sun. If only there was a v2 deal; that in theory could last indefinitely with normal use!

A day or so is a very low bar indeed.

          • +2

@ginormousgiraffe: this is basically a phone

          • @ginormousgiraffe: The only downside with my Garmin is that I can't make phone calls from the watch, only answer/reject them.

    • +12

So like the normal Apple Watch?

    • +2

I have a Huawei GT smart watch for 3 years, the battery still can last at least 10 days, just not sure what my privacy infomation this watch report to CCP.

      • Yep same. My GT 2 still going strong after 2.5years

      • I wanted to love my last GT, but their ecosystem was shite and BT calls on speaker phone was horrendous

    • samsung one only 1.5 days w/o much use

    • +1

yeh wow good to know cheers

    • Checking you own the PW1 and not PW2? This is PW1. But both models should last a day.

      • I had the PW1 and it was a clusterduck! It wont last half a day on LTE and always on display

      • Yes it is PW1

It's like if I charge 100% in the morning, I get the charge until EOD. However if you need to wear overnight to track sleep , a quick top up might be required. However the charging speed is fairly good so half an hour top up evening should be good enough.

      • Sorry didn't see this is LTE version. I have only Bluetooth version and was telling about batter capacity of that. Not sure about battery performance about LTE version.

      LTE

      for the 4G model?

The cheapest I see there was $269?

  • +5

The battery life is definitely an issue, but it hasn't been a showstopper for me, just give it top ups when I shower/am reading before bed etc.

Build quality is another matter though, just received my third replacement from Google. The thing is out of warranty next month and I have a sneaking suspicion that I'll be in touch with them at some point to debate whether a product like this should last longer than a year…

    • What issues did you have with yours?

      • There QC isnt so great. depends on luck of the draw

      • +2

First one was comparatively minor - when I got the (stupidly overpriced) leather strap from google, the metal adapters were a shitty fit on the watch body. Google sent a different strap first, but the issue was the same so they apologised and sent a new puck. There was barely any improvement in the fit of the new puck though, at which point support changed their tune and decided that a strap that rattles is normal for the watch…

Second replacement was because the back cover fell off. Just took it off my wrist one day and this bit of round plastic landed in my lap. Looked at the watch and it was the back panel. Apparently they have a record of it happening, poor adhesive it seems.

This last replacement is because the screen just stopped working one day. Rest of the watch seems to function fine - still tracks steps and HR and reports them to my phone, vibrates for alerts etc. but the display is gone. Almost happy to have a new one though, as the crown was starting to feel a bit grindy on that one, and I much rather use it than try and swipe on the screen.

I got the thing to use up some Google Store credit I had, so I'm not out of pocket at all, but I dunno if I'd be buying one at even this price; probably opt for a deal like the samsung one from Monday (got the better half a watch 6 classic).

        • Are they going on sale on Monday? I doubt it will from to $250 though.

          • +1

@rsop: Sorry, meant Monday just passed, this deal:
            https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/835433

Didn't hit this price, but $299 for a watch 6 would still be tempting to me given the experience with the Pixel watch so far. Shame, because I love the pixel phone I have.

Edit: my bad, didn't notice that this was for the LTE version too, so the Samsung equivalent was $364 on the deal mentioned.

    • I've got the Apple watch and it only gets 18 hours for comparison.
If this gets 18 as well, I guess that's the standard for watches.

I've left a watch charger in the bathroom so I always remember to charge it when I shower.

Wife has had hers since they came out moved from Samsung loves it she just charged it every night like her phone while asleep

Even $50 is too muchfor this

    • +5

That's probably a bit too harsh mate. People have worked on this and there have been materials used. It may not be a great product I agree.

      • +5

Things can be worth less than the combined value of their inputs

      • +1

Its not the effort or materials. Its the perceived value

  • Samsung Galaxy Tab A9+ can you pair it to that and just use it independently on LTE?

    • I have a galaxy tab S8+ and you can install Google fit on it. So I am assuming yes

      • yeah if your have had success on that then should be fine :D thanks man.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, got one.
Harvey Norman don't stock & best JB could do was $400.

    • +1

      no problem 😁
      Thanks for checking price match

  • I quite liked mine when I had it, and yikes I paid over $600 for it!

The battery wasn't a problem for me most days as I'd take it off on a morning before a shower and it'd usually be up to around 80-90%. It never ran out during the day in the 6 or so months I had it. Unfortunately the glue came undone around the seal and I had to replace it under warranty and ended up selling it due to swapping to iPhone. At this price I'd say it's worth it, but there's no way these are going to last the average person a couple of years!

    • Yea, I might jump on it. as then sell it after the Ver.3 comes out. 2 was good but I didn't see a massive change. Plus I just use a Casio Calculator watch so I'll be pretty happy with anything hahaha

  • Can you instal an esim on it with a new number so you dont have to carry your phone around

  • My Galaxy Watch that hasn't been off my wrist since 2018 still lasts several days. What a joke.

    • Yep, i have a 4 year old galaxy watch that lasts 2 days easy

  • +6

Great watch for the price. I didn’t have any problems with battery life when I was in the Google ecosystem and love that I could always see my heart rate instead of having to go into an app like the Apple Watch.

    • +3

love that I could always see my heart rate instead of having to go into an app like the Apple Watch

That's awesome. I miss this feature after moving from Garmin to Apple.

  • Gen 1

  • Does this watch work fine with just a Bluetooth connection (ie without LTE?)

    • It should.

      • I know it should - I was hoping for a confirmation.

        • That's how my wife is using her Samsung something LTE watch. Without the LTE part and only using Bluetooth.

  • I swear this was $199 somewhere before but I can't find it.

    • 4g?

      • maybe not all I remember is it was gen 1. it might have been shared in a comment somwhere and not a post.

        • yeh ok, there was a deal bot long ago for the pixel 1 BT model for about $225 and could be stacked with some codes if you were lucky

  • Love the pixel watch but trying to see if I can get an even cheaper wear OS watch to dip my toes in. Any recommendations for any budget options?

    • xiaomi Mi watch is nice. Not wear OS but a great budget watch that does a lot of things well under $50

      • My most common use case would be for golf (using it to get distances etc). I don't think those particular apps would work on the Xiaomi. Obviously still after the standard health/fitness taking but yeah that's why I'm after wearOS, so I can download apps etc
