    What about Brisbane?

    • +2

Unfortunately, Malaysia Airlines do not fly out of Brisbane.

Why or why? Do you have any insider info as to why MAS dont fly BNE?
Or better still, when are they going to resume :
        furious

    • Only Australia's third largest city flanked by two of the fastest growing regions in the country

      • which two?

        • +1

          SC & GC

          • @pointnlarf: how do they rank? two of the fastest growing can mean many things.

            • @amorn: Yeah I think it's inmates…

As of my last update, some of Australia's fastest-growing non-capital cities included:

              1. Gold Coast, Queensland
              2. Sunshine Coast, Queensland
              3. Newcastle, New South Wales
              4. Geelong, Victoria
              5. Townsville, Queensland

These cities have experienced significant population growth, driven by factors such as job opportunities, lifestyle appeal, and infrastructure development.

These cities are typically ranked based on population growth rates over a specific period, such as annually or over several years. The growth rate is usually calculated as a percentage increase in population over time.

            • @amorn: I think he means in terms of their rapid growth of the crime rates.

The government artificially restricts which international routes can be flown by which airlines.
Your tax dollars working to artificially limit competition so you pay more…

    • I don't think it's a coincidence that Virgin calls BNE home and the airport just isn't being serviced like other cities despite its size.

That is a good price for Taiwan, how safe is the MH flight currently?

    • +2

You scared of the plane going missing or getting shot down?

      • FP99 just wanna know if they implement strict mental health check on all flight crews and captains… :)

    • +1

Let me know which flight and I'll check

    • +5

Depends if it's a Boeing flight or not

    • +1

I think they guarantee a return flight these days….

    • They used to be pretty good, but you wouldn't go near them now with a 40-foot pole.

Non-existent safety standards, staff and third parties they work with are either striking or refusing to do business with them. A chunk of their fleet have been grounded for months or years and ancient re-commissioned planes have been contracted into the roster in their place from the Philippines and China. The Malaysian Government are about to sell off their stake in the nationalised company and privatise it to China. Much like the planes, the whole airline is following suit and going down in flames.

      • +1

Those are some pretty damaging claims- where's the source?

  • Any good deals to london?

    • +2

It's possible to get a return flight from KL to London for $950 (Saudia looks to be cheapest), so you could combine with this and spend a day or two each way staying in KL (accommodation is cheap even for nice hotels) to be safe. Only really worth it if you want to see KL, but you'd save enough on flights to more or less cover your accommodation in KL.

You could also don't via HK instead of KL, flights to London can be had for $700 with the Chinese airlines. But accommodation is more expensive in HK.

  • Honestly, aren't these like normal prices? Off-peak, non school holiday periods.

    • +2

No, they are around $100 - $200 cheaper than the previous cheapest prices.

      • Aren't you just comparing different departure/return dates? I thought prices only ever go up. It would be better if you can show/compare the exact same dates checked.

        • +1

The depart/return dates are the cheapest depart/return date pairs found that day (out of all searches made for that route). If I just compared (or showed) the cheapest price for the same dates, then I would miss when a price drop occurs on a different set of dates (eg, the cheapest travel dates may be in Oct-Nov, but then a sale happens and the cheapest travel dates are now in May).

        • They don't only go up, pretty common for prices to come down within the last 4 months or so before a flight if enough tickets haven't sold.

  • -2

I just couldn't hey. Mostly because of the way the airline and government handled their missing plane. Oh and you shot one of our planes out of the sky, oh well.

  • they really need to find MH370

  • Finally, no more oneway ticket comment …

  • Have flown MH plenty of times in the past few years and each time has been great. KLIA on the other hand…

    • +1

I bet you wouldn't be saying that if one of your MH flights disappeared!

    • The complete opposite experience for me.

Malaysia Airlines were good back in the 90's, but the last 10+ years for them have been disastrous and it now shows in the horrible standard and experience of their flights.

  • Much better for Adelaide. Ty!

  • Got excited when I saw $616 to BKK, the. Scrolled down from melb jumps to $715 sigh still good though

    • +1

      For $700ish I wouldn't fly MH.

      • +1

$500ish and I still wouldn't fly MH. I don't expect their planes to crash, but I do expect a cover-up from the government if they did.

  • +2

Quite a surprising number of negatives to comments from people making relevant comments…. or is all that stuffs about a missing flight just some sort of trump fake news?

    • +1

Every Malaysia Airlines deal gets bombarded with bots negging any mention of their two recent entire plane wiped out situations

      • shurely there wouldn't be nega bots on ozbargain?

        • go back through every single malaysia airlines deal since their two recent crashes. there are also ebay bots that pos vote on ebay voucher deals despite no deals listed

    • +2

Speaking from experience from having to fly with them for business a number of times in the last 10 years & the current state of the airline as a company:

It's been the same story each time I've flown with them over the last 10 years. Both in terms of business and economy class. Outright broken chairs, ripped and missing fabric from the chairs, no functioning plugs or recharge ports in the seat rests/handles. Screens on the back of the seats were scratched, not even installed straight & remotes for the screens didn't work properly. That was just the obvious stuff we realised within 60 seconds of sitting down. Then came the abysmal excuse for food, attendants who didn't speak English at all, water bottles that had clearly been opened before coming out, no food or drinks the temperature they should have been. Cushions were available but unclean & smelled, the cabin itself smelled like cigarette smoke, toilets were obviously dirty before departure. The list just go's on. God only knows how bad the mechanical/engineering maintenance and standards are if that's how they treat the inside of the plane and customer service. Won't ever be flying them again for personal or business purposes.

In terms of them as a business, they spent the majority of the last two years having contracted third parties and service providers walk out on them due to failure of payments, open corruption and other issues. Their own staff went on strike against them - I mean, Imagine how bad the conditions and standards of the fleet must be for employees of a nationalised airline in a country known for disappearing those who speak out against them to openly in daylight strike against the company and complain about government officials! They've lost over $50 Billion in the last 20 years and declared bankruptcy twice, despite being a fully state-owned company. They were also bailed out repeatedly over the last decade or so to the tune of a Billion dollars every time, including again only a couple of years ago. The average length of time their CEO's have served is less than 12 months (despite all being signed on for 3-5 year contracts). The Malaysian finance minister has already announced they are getting out of the business all together and are selling off 50% of the company in 2025 to Chinese and Filipino companies, then selling off the rest entirely in the next few years.

  • +2

The cabin quality speaks for itself. Fabrics ripped, backrest squeaks. Makes you wonder how much effort they put into areas passengers don't see.

  • We flew MAS to Beijing some years ago, and my husband wrote to thank them for looking after us; i was very sick and threw up which landed in one of the girls. They were very attentive and took care of both of us.

They are always good, good supplies of food and wine, and peanuts our favourite. Being a Commonwealth County everyone speaks English and always greet you with a smile.

Hope they'd resume their Brisbane flights soon!

  • Flying Malaysian Airlines is incredibly irresponsible given their handling of MH370. It's unethical to give them any money given their treatment to families of those who are still missing. It's disappointing to see these types of posts on Ozbargain.

Patriotic Malaysians' bots will try to bury my post with their down votes. It's a shame that they don't hold Malaysian Airlines accountable for finding MH370 so that the families can finally bury their loved ones!

  • They've become more interested in overweight bags recently. Last week they wanted my spouse to remove camera equipment from hand luggage which was overweight.

Several people were repacking bags for checking in. Arrive early if you've brought too much stuff.

    • I had a similar experience recently but was with SQ, wanted to check hand carry bag and size!
