I have one of these, you can get round the garden on one charge. Upgraded from a 2-stroke after I got sick of messing around with it. No regrets

    • +2

I've got the 189, but same thing.
I love the power and noise of the 2 stroke (gives you that Tim the Toolman Taylor - I'm using a real machine vibe), but yeah, it's a pain to keep adjusting, especially from cold. Plus the 2 stroke smell on your clothes.
That… and the Mrs won't touch it! ;)

      • +4

Hopefully she starts touching "it" from now on "AAARRGHHROOO?!?!" ;) ;)

        • +4

Two strokes is too much for some!!! ;)

    • -4

      Looks like they've matched it

      • +5

Comes up as the regular price for me…

  • Thanks, perfect timing for the discount.

  • How does this compare to the other Makita line trimmer models?
Had a look on the Makita site but even using the compare tool on the different skin only models I'm struggling

    • +1

I got an 18V x 2 package with trimmer, hedger, pole saw attachments. It's a lot heavier than I was expecting, so I tend to just use it for the pole saw and hedger. Then I often grab my little 2 stroke if I'm doing a lot in the yard (I have a few acres).

Kind of wish i had this smaller 18V x 1 unit, so for a regular yard it should be perfect. Get some gatorline.

      • Yeah cheers, I was looking at those 3 in 1 so good to know.
Might pick this up and flip my 2 stroke Ryobi on marketplace

      • +1

        I’m similar
Got the 18v x 2 model and realised a single battery model was all I needed for an 750m2 block

That little bit lighter and possibly slightly simpler model would have easily been good enough

  • Can you cut REALLY LONG grass with it? Like knee height.
One property that hasn't been attended for nearly one year.

    • +1

Some genius will tell you NO, but I had no problem with the cheapest Ryobi line trimmer.

    • Trimming grass is not a problem, even if it's long. It struggles when cutting thick runners when doing the edges (you have to wait for a few seconds per runner), but I guess that's an issue common to all line trimmers.

      • I have that cheap ozito with plastic blades and even that sucks at it, was actually considering upgrading to a ryobi line trimmer as i already have a mower battery.

    • You can probably thrash it and it'll get the job done, you will be going through the battery pretty quick though.

Twice the price, but might be worth the upgrade

Thanks OP, manged to grab one for $242.10 from bunnings through their price beat guarantee and free delivery through OnePass.

    • had to call them ? i tried live chat but no luck

      • Yes! over the phone

        • +1

they are useless, been waiting for 30mins over the phone now… still no one picks up

  • +3
    • thanks willy - my local bunnings would not price beat without adding interstate postage from the trade tools deal - then i got the price beat with your sydney tools link for $242 - cheers

      • Your local Bunnings is 7hills?

  • thanks op - been contemplating what to do with my echo 2 stroke whipper snipper that I have to rev to buggery to stop it cutting out. I believe it needs a carburetor clean+gaskets, or just replacement carb altogether. I suspect throwing good money after bad trying to get it working - time to go electric.

got the bunnings price beat for $242 - but no luck on free delivery. Have to head to store.

    • +1

I did the replacement of the carburetor and everything on my 4 stroke honda because of the same issue. Still had the same problem after. I put it on gumtree for free and someone who repairs them came and picked it up. That's when I went battery and haven't looked back.

  • OP's link shows $369, did I miss something ??

    • +1

On the left side there's a little graphic about the price drop. Add the item to cart and the discount will be applied.

      • Got it ! Thanks !

  • Has anyone got experience with this?
    https://www.mitre10.com.au/yard-force-24v-edger-kit-7087059
It's obviously being considered as 24 v which is more than the Ryobi or ozito at similar price from bunnings

  • +1

Thanks … Got it from local Bunnings…

  • Plenty in stock at my Bunnings. Just took it to the desk and showed the Sydney tools advertised price on my phone. $242.10 with price beat no problem. Thanks OP!

  • Just came back from Bunnings Castle hill. This was my favourite Bunnings, but not any more lol. I initially showed them the Sydney tools price. The first woman talked about delivery cost and time, same day pickup, all sorts of bs. Then I showed her the Bunnings price beat policy. She called the manager… then the second woman, who might have more experience, intervened. She also talked to the manager, and apparently the manager told her that the Sydney tools was selling the skin only !?! I told her No. then she rang her manger again and after a few mins the manager came. A man in his 40s, I guess. He showed me in the Sydney tools description that this discounted price was for the skin only. (At that time i didnt scroll down the web page). He even said makita don’t give such a big discount etc. Then I showed him the tradetools page. He had a very quick look this time, and certainly realised BS wouldn’t work (i have ozb to back me up), and dissapeared after quickly approved the price beat. Before I left, I asked one of the two women what they had been told by their manager about the Bunnings price beat policy. The woman said there’s a web page other than this ( https://www.bunnings.com.au/policies/price-policy), which has more detail about the policy, such as bla bla bla. I think, this is bs again.

    • Did you show them this link?

      https://sydneytools.com.au/product/makita-dur192lst-18v-50ah…

It clearly shows everything is included.

      • I did. I believe the managers of Bunnings simply didn’t want to price beat anything expensive ish.

        • +1

Why do they even care, its not their money.

          • @ATangk: This, with managers in companies and even government when you ask for a raise. It's not thier Fricking money, but they'll still behave like it's personal.

            • @Lord Ra: KPI about revenue linked to their bonus probably.

              • @ezekiel181: Ohhhhh. So THEY can get a bonus and their team cannot? What has humankind become?

    • +4

I hate that Bunnings has centered their whole identity on their price beat policy, yet will try and jump through so many hoops to avoid it. It is so ridiculous that you have to do the research on their own policy each time, I guess they are hoping to make it such a frustrating horrible experience you don't bother next time.

      • Agree, they put so much emphasis on their price beat policy. Like its something they are incredibly proud of an are genuine about. Then when it comes time to do a price beat… there's no dodu da dar da do do dar dar… music playing. Just the third degree and them trying to wriggle out of it.

The reason this cheeses me off is becuase bunnings margins are HUGE. They never used to be and there price beat policy was more of a guarantee that you are wasting your time looking for a better price. Now days theyve jacked up their margins to te point where the price beat policy needs to be used as a stick. Sad.

    • So what was your final price - $269 or $242

      • +1

Price beat as per their policy.

  • If I get this, then it's the 3rd ecosystem of batteries and chargers I'll have to deal with.

Uuurgh. Have Aldi mower, ozito drill and hammer, now this.

    • Me: Ozito ryobi makita
Recently, got a skil mower which is way better than my Ozito mower; received the Bosch mitre saw yesterday which will replace the ryobi mitre saw
      In total, 5 systems…

      • i got rid of my ryobi and just use ozito. so ozito and makita for me

  • +1

Give me my Makita back, Mack!

  • they matched the price at my local bunnings, no 10% for me but still happy to pick it up

  • Bunnings still have this at full price - just picked one up at their new Noarlunga store, new cashier originally put it through at 269, I then took the trolley straight to the returns desk told the bloke it didn't include the 10% price different discount, and he was more than happy to refund it then process it for 242.10 (which includes the discount).

Price match using Sydney Tools given their national chain.

If you don't get the 10% discount ping them on it - it sounds like if they just do a price override it won't be included however if they flag in the system it's a price match in automatically calculates.

  • +4

Bunnings has updated the price (online) to $269
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/makita-18v-brushless-line-trimme…

    • Ahhhh dang it!

    • +1

i'll get it from trade tools still, i love to support small businesses.

      • Trade Tools still has it for $369.
        So you'll still pay $369? 😅

Edit: I'm silly, didn't realise it was the OP. I have reported as expired. Bunnings is still live the time of writing. Also, Sydney Tools. Get in quick.

        • It's not expired.

        • Still currently $269 at tradetools until Sunday. The way they have the reduced price shown on the website is admittedly not great and seems to be tripping up some people.

          • @Elyxar: Ah sorry mate, I misunderstood.

          • @Elyxar: @Elyxar
Good news, they've finally updated the website to make it look much nicer and easier to read. Also, the listing price has been updated.

If you add it to the cart, it automatically applies and shows the reduced price…

        • Total Tools is now also price matching.

          • @Lord Ra: TotalTools = TradeTools Same company I believe.

cheers op. grabbed this from Bunnings via a PM. this thing has changed my life for the better!!

I have hated whippersnippering for decades- bought millions of different brands trying to find one I was happy with, and they have all sucked and given me the shits eventually. finally, I can say that this thing was awesome- I even felt joy for a while!!! and so bloody light- so much quicker to complete everything, and no fatigue at the end. just need to grab another battery (900m2 block) and everything will be perfect (once I've figured out the bump feed thingo)!!

    screw you petrol!!

    • I felt the same when I went from petrol mower to battery. I just pick it up and go. No mentally preparing myself for the filling of petrol and the noise and vibration. Weekly mows are a 15 minute blip in my day. I just bought an edger because I'm hating using the line trimmer for all the footpath and road edging. Looking forward to trying that for the first time!

  • first impressions - other than the cutting head - seems pretty decent. The cutting head I received is the 95-M10L rather than the better 96-M10L. The latter make it really easy to wind on more nylon spool by simply feeding the 4m length in and turning. The cheaper former is always painful in my opinion and you have to pull the thing apart, remember to wind the right way, and make sure it doesn't unravel before putting it all back together.

I'm almost tempted to upgrade the head - from this guy https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/314605684426
    to essentially this guy https://sydneytools.com.au/product/makita-191d894-102mm-m10-…

See compatability for DUR192L in this guide https://www.makita.com.au/media/documents/guides/ezy-work-ny…
    you need 191D89-4

A good deal for those that haven't purchased would be to get to $300+ and get the free makita wheeled duffle bag

    i.e
    https://sydneytools.com.au/product/makita-dur192lst-18v-50ah… at $269
    plus this guy at $28.83
    https://sydneytools.com.au/product/makita-191d894-102mm-m10-…
    and the nylon line
    https://sydneytools.com.au/product/makita-e01775-20mm-x-30m-…
    at $12.90

    • So does everyone get the 95-M10L ? Or is it pure luck between the two?
Can't you return it and ask for a box that has "the better 96-M10L"?

      • No idea.

I suspect everyone in Aus purchasing the DUR192LST gets the same.

The trimmer manual though is generic for DUR192L - and probably used for many different countries/markets and at different price points.

Kits vs standalone-skins too may be different.

Either way though, for $30, that improved head is probably worth it.

        • I've seen that 'bump' head in action. It's really nifty, just tap it and keep going, saves a lot of time.
I'll keep an eye out for when that goes on sale, then upgrade the head.

      • I got 95-M10L

    • It doesn't seem to add the bonus duffle bag until you add $300 worth of the items with the bonus on them. At least not for me, did anyone get it to work?

  • Anyone use their line trimmer yet?
    Any comments, thoughts, suggestions, feedback?

    • It took me a while to get used to this Makita coming from my old 2 stroke. The makita was perfect for cutting grass along/under a fence line, but was doing a terrible job trying to cut a nice straight edge along a footpath with the head on a bit of an angle.

Then with a bit of trial and error, I worked out I needed to flip it up side down - see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_6BgsZCjVg&t=285s
once flipped upside down, it was easy to control and get perfect edges too.

      good luck!

  • I'm a noob with this shit but can't attach the nylon head part! Putting the hex wrench in but doesn't seem to lock anything in place

    • you put the allen key in the hole to stop the centre bolt from turning - then you tighten the spindle on to it reverse clockwise.

      • Thanks got it in the end!

  • Bought this from my local Bunnings before the end of the special price (ended on Sunday). They had the same $269 price, so could not use the price beat thing. Have not used it yet. Now I need a hedge trimmer and a lawn mower!

  • Still $269 at Bunnings (Mon am). Out of stock at most stores I checked. Snagged the last one at my local.
