Do you want to spend a lot of money on a toaster? Do I have a deal for you then!

Big caveat: Usually dispatched within 1 to 2 months

Although it reckons it'll be delivered March 22nd - 5 April. Not sure how that works. March 22nd is definitely less than 1 month, let alone 2 months.

No clue as to how well it actually works other than positive and negative reviews. Some say it's the best thing ever, some say it can't toast evenly. But it might match my kettle I hope. Although I don't know if that's the black sesame or black truffle. Who can tell with Breville's naming conventions? And I did buy that on special ages ago, so don't hate me too much.

Do you want to spend a lot of money on a toaster?

    no.

  • +9

How is $100 for a toaster a bargain? Does make the bread from scratch before it toasts it?

  • +3

    It’s only 2 slice?

    • +1

Preferable for kitchens with limited bench space

  • +2

$100 toaster… Only 2 slices at a time and I have to wait 1-2 months.

You have got to be kidding?

    • If it butters your toast though, watch out, I'll be buying two to enjoy toast twice as fast.

  • +2

    This is the way

  • +1

And if you put the toast from this and a $6 Kmart toaster side by side I'd be surprised if you could tell the difference.

This is simply an appliance for people who have run out if things to spend money on.

    • $100 is too much and there are plenty of cheaper options, but having a toaster with ‘lift and look’ is totally worth it

      • Especially for English muffins and crumpets

    • +2

The $6 Kmart toaster only has room for thin slices. If you slice by hand it doesn't fit well, or at all. I think their $20 options are better though

      • +5

I tried slicing by hand and my hand isn't sharp enough, just makes a big mess on the table

        • +2

Change your bread recipe. I leave out the water to save on cost and I won't wear out my bread knife as I can slice it by hand easily.

    • You could certainly tell the difference.

I have a Breville toaster (not this exact model, but same tech) and a $10 Kmart toaster at work. The Kmart toaster sucks and I hate using it, and I am longing for the day that the person who bought the Kmart toaster leaves my workplace so I can replace it. The Kmart toaster unevenly grills the bread, leaves frozen bread frozen inside while burning the outside, smokes, and is difficult to clean.

By contrast, the Breville toaster brings me joy every time I use it and the different settings actually work incredibly well.

Now whether the Breville is x10 better than the Kmart toaster to justify the price difference… well, that's going to depend on how often you make toast. For me, the price difference is certainly justified.

    • I have the cheapest Kmart toaster now ($7.50 w/free delivery - thanks Onepass) while I have notifications set here to keep my eye out for a better one. I have to say that as long as you're using supermarket-standard dimension bread, it does a perfectly fine job. Even has a passable defrost & reheat function. The downside is purely that it doesn't handle bread that's taller or thicker-sliced. In the case of this Breville deluxe, I can't get past the 2.3 rating on product review com au.. I will keep waiting…

Bought this toaster for my parents after accidentally living with them through the Covid lockdowns and their toaster being garbage

This toaster is really really good. Hard to explain, it toasts so evenly and nicely
    Has some great settings etc

    • I'll second that it's a really good toaster.

The Led timer is my favorite part

    • accidentally living with them

      lol

  • Rrp is ridiculous for a toaster but I think its worth $100. Mine hasnt skipped a beat. I haven't compared it to a kmart toaster though so i cant say if it toasts any better

  • I'll only ever spend good money on a toaster if I'm planning on buying the Balmuda. Then again, it's questionable if it's even a toaster at all.

    • +1

I used the Balmuda in an airbnb in the US. Did not rate it, "steamed" my bagels when I wanted a nice crispy edge. If I was going for hot bread, I'd use the "wet bread in foil" method in the oven. But to each their own.

  • +1

Upvoting for the description, not because I am in the market for $100 toasters.

  • +3

Thicker slices, lift up function to get crumpets out instead of jumping it out and quickly grabbing it, more even heating elements, aesthetics…just a few reasons why this or other more expensive toasters might be better than a $6 kmart toaster.

If the only value of things is in the ability to perform it's primary function then we'd all have the $6 kmart toaster equivalent.

In saying this, I don't own this toaster but I like the colour to match my more-than-$6-expensive black kettle

    • +1

Ermmm, my Kmart toaster does all that, but I splurged and spent $20.

  • +2

Ngl, I was shopping for a toaster and read all the comments about no diff between an expensive toaster and a $6 kmart toaster. So I got the $20 one from Kmart but the thing is atrocious at evenly browning the toast. So I put an order in for this one to see if it's any better (hopefully). My own short little science experiment. 50% off RRP cant really go wrong I suppose

    • +3

My parents bought the Kmart cheap one, it would only brown one side of the bread, they returned it for a ~$20 one. The $20 one wasn’t much better and they returned it and just kept using their old one.

  • +1

Time to up interest rates again, clearly

  • Well got mine a couple of days ago after it had been sitting in the post office for a couple of days (ordered a bit before I posted the deal). So the 1-2 months delivery time was certainly shorter than that for me.

Looks the goods. Although it's matte, while my kettle is gloss. D'oh! Oh well, just as well I don't keep either of those out on the bench when I'm not using them.

Only used it a couple of times so far, and for normal bread. But certainly has toasted very evenly and better than my old Sunbeam, which always toasted more on one side than the other, necessitating a flip and more toasting to try and get an even brown.

So yeah, I'm happy enough with it so far.
