    It is $30 for me..

    • +3

Changed to $18 for me once I entered a pickup location.

      • +4

Oh yea.. it worked for me that way. Thank you Sir..!!

      • +1

        Hmm still shows $30 here

  • +7

I went through many pans even Tefal ones..

I'm now using the generic brand from Kmart which is going amazing! For under $25 no brainer

    • +8

Same here - I have a $15 pan from Target that's doing just as well as the $115 Tefal it replaced.

Now all we need is a deal on maple syrup, too!

Aldi middle aisle pans on sale are the shizzle

    • +6

Only catch is the dodgy stuff in the non-stick. Brand names spend more on avoiding that stuff

      • +1

        Ah yes, like Teflon.

      • Yep. These are very bad for pet birds and some animals apparently

        • +1

How about monkeys from the arctic? 🐒

    • They aren't very good if you have induction

    • Might be the one I've been using - was excellent quite a while, i dare say 2 years.

Absolute trash now, though I've been using it for best 4 years now. Can't recall any Tefal pans from my past lasting any longer.

Much better than the Aldi ones.. Crofton? Worst pans I've ever used, even when new. Usually i love aldi crap, but the pans.. oh lordy the pans

  • This is tempting but I just bought a new ScanPan frypan.

  • +9

Note that it's not compatible with induction cooktops

    • +3

      that would explain the discount

    • +1

Wish i looked before i bought one 🤦‍♂️

    • +1

Glad I checked the comments first.

    • They still make those?!?

      • Induction is amazing, especially if you use correct induction pans and not just the cheap aluminium pans with a tiny little induction core that expands differently to the aluminium causing warping, alongside a hot spot.

Far better than gas with the right pans, 2nd to gas with the wrong pans - both better for cooking over ceramic (though for cleaning I'd still choose over gas)

Anyone using electric coil should just microwave everything

  • I hate this brand, bad quality

    • Even those made in France models? I thought they are better quality than the Chinese ones.

      • -3

        No

      • +5

He's wrong. We bought Tefal's (made sure to buy the made in France versions) a couple years ago and they're still as good as the day we bought them. Would highly recommend the French models. My experience with pans is they usually only last 6 - 12 months at the same level and then degrade quickly, but our Tefal's have been awesome.

        • Issue is people burning oil, and therefore damaging the pan.

        • +1

Now try using oil and see it degrade within a matter of months. Tefal Pan's are in no way superior to other generic pan's. The Made in France tag is just a gimmick.

          • +1

@ninohax: Have used oil in it heaps when making eggs / bacon etc for flavour. Our pans before these were Circulon and not cheap, but still turned to shit within 12 months.

Most if not everyone that thinks the made in France versions are a gimmick have only ever used the cheaper variety and had no idea there was a difference. I don't blame them, you could easily get confused when buying.

            • @Jebus: I had one, was good for about 4 months - then i put oil in it, turned it up, went to the toilet… and absolutely ruined it.

My fault sure, but I've had crappier pans survive my drifting mind.

It was a good pan before that moment though.. but the moment left a poor taste in my mouth.

With induction the brand is trash sadly. If i go back to gas I'd reconsider

      • +4

My made in France titanium set is beyond brilliant. Pricey, but cannot recommend it highly enough for their durability and longevity. Look after them and they'll last a considerably long time.

        • +3

Agreed. The Titanium and Everest range have been great for me too. I’ll always used my SolidTeknics pans when cooking on high heat, which is a big reason the coating on non-stick pans can break down, but the better lines of made in France Tefals have all lasted me 5+ years with barely a mark.

    • have to agree, i have gone through a couple of absolutely rotten Tefal's in my time. I wasn't aware there was a good and bad one though

      • Honestly I'm not sure I've had a pan within any price range (never spent more than 140) that lasted noticeably longer than others.

I have a cheap but not cheapest pan from woolies or Kmart that was fantastic for nearly 2 years. By year 4 it's dead, but I've burnt the shit out of it several times with only minor warping as a result. My last "made in france" tefal was amazing until i burnt the crap out of it once after 3 months, which it both bowed and became a full stick pan after.

A cheap $20 pan a year, while wasteful, would be the best solution.

    • +2

At least the handles don't fall off, unlike Raco ones.

    • I remember getting the ceramic made in france one post here from myers, after a few uses it sticks like crazy, never been put in the dishwasher too

    • I've got some Tefal's that I bought five, ten years ago. Still going strong

  • +13

ahh yess the delish forever chemicals

    • -2

Yep, I thought people were educated about non stick cookware by now. It seems most are not from the comments here. I wouldn’t use one if you gave it to me, certainly not paying for one.

      • So cast iron?

        • +5

And carbonise the tofu? You monster!

          • +2

            @Daabido: lol!

Cast iron is great when you learn how to season, manage and maintain it, but wrought iron is amazing.

Check out the perennial OzBarbain favourites - https://www.solidteknics.com/. Not cheap, but multi-century guaranteed and you’ll find some decent sales if you join their Lovers group.

            • @UncleRico: The getting started and seasoning guide both seem to imply you would have to season and maintain these just the same as cast iron. Not saying they aren't better but not sure about the convenience benefits. Do like how deep some of their pans are though.

              • @Osiris: Seasoning is nearly identical so there is not much difference in maintenance, although anecdotally I’ve found they hold a non-stick seasoning better than my cast iron pans, but that may also be because they’ve had more usage.

The benefits come from the weight and superior design of the wrought vs cast iron. I’ve got a decent collection of Lodge pans, but they don’t get used much any more, except for the ribbed griddle when I’m after a bit of variety - for her pleasure, of course…

The long vented handles of the profoundly lighter wrought iron are cooler and far easier to handle than the stubby Lodge handle so they’re so much easier to shake, toss or just move around. The pans heat up super fast and consistently, and retain heat every bit as well, and you cook on lower heat settings so you can save gas or electricity.

I’ve never got excited about cookwear before, but check them out for yourself if you seen them in store. They’re ball-tearingly good.

Oddly, the deep pans aren’t my favourites. Since wet acidic dishes can strip away the seasoning on cast or wrought pans, my Sateusse doesn’t get a lot of usage. I should probably grab some of their non-seasoned Noni pans for deep dish cooking.

            • +1

@UncleRico: Buy once, lasts for a lifetime. And you can use it on any heat source available.

      • I don't think a single Teflon claim has ever been proven, and more importantly I've seen the same claim being made by the 'plastic' you form seasoning a pan with oil.

100% Safe Non-Stick Coating: 0% PFOA, 0% lead, 0% cadmium. Stricter controls than those required by current food contact regulations.

AFAIK, it’s not Teflon? Don’t think you should put all the nonsticks in a single bucket?

  • +1

    Teflon is bad for you.

    • Drugs are also bad 🤷🏻‍♂️

    • +4

The concern was the use of PFOA which was a chemical used in the manufacture of Teflon/nonstick which did have an association with cancer with long term use or high exposure as the body doesn’t clear the chemical easily and it can build up.

PFOA has subsequently been removed in the manufacture of Teflon as of 2013.

I find cast iron to be the best for pancakes.

Wasn't tefal busted for using some dodgy chemicals in their coating that causes cancer..

The pans may outlast their owners.

I didn’t neg you so am just guessing, but I suspect it may be because you seem to be equating the known risks of the original Teflon composition with a suggestion that “Tefal were busted for using some dodgy chemicals”.

I couldn’t see any existence of the latter online, but am happy to be proven wrong if someone can steer me to the case you refer to.

  • Its 30 in SA

  • Cast iron asian pans FTW.

  • +4

I cook my pancakes on cast iron, changed my life. So much better than non-stick.

    • Which brand or store, any suggestions?

  • +1

Great pan, ngl I bought the set from myer, really nice cooking, needs hand wash, if you put it in the dish washer i will ruin glass wear hand wash only…

    Washer also strips the non-stick.

I paid $100 and its lasted now 3-4 years with care

  • Just use cast iron, last forever

  • If you can find some heavy steel pans from about 50-70s era, and then scrub them with fine steel wool and corn starch— be shocked at how they come out. Can even take out deep burn stains.
