I think you'd have to be a Fn Fikwot to buy a no name memory product like the Fikwot FN955 and put your critical files like family photos on it.

"STABLE AND ReLIABLE -The NVMe M.2 SSD has undergone 80 hours of rigorous testing and 5 strict tests can work stably from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius . With rigorous quality inspection and testing,Be sure to find your most reliable partner at all times."

A massive 80 hours testing. woot woot!

    • I don't know how anyone can classify 80hours as "rigorous testing", that is ridiculous.

  • This is surely the Ford Pinto of SSD's…

This makes me feel great about the 3 T500's I bought for this price last year!

  • Is it good enough to store archives of p*rn?

Good to see this brand on Amazon as they've been all over Ali for months.

This one is supposed to be using YMTC 232L TLC 3D flash with the MAP1602 controller. Basically the same as the Lexar NM790.

    • Is that a good thing or a bad thing?

      • It's not the older YMTC flash that has issues with reliability and data loss, so I'd say it's good. There's always the possibility it's the flash that didn't pass QC with someone like Lexar. For game storage I think it's perfectly fine.

        • Yeah the YMTC232L+MAP1602 SSDs seem to be the last of the decent priced SSDs. Other brands which currently seem cheap on AliExpress but not Amazon are Reletech and Move Speed, these possibly have a better reputation so would be nice if they also got cheap on Amazon. And yeah unfortunately hard to say whether these are ones that wouldn't make the QC for Lexar, Corsair etc, or exactly the same. (Hiksemi has been cheap in the past and I'd probably trust them most of all, but not cheap at the moment. But their presence on Amazon might always be a bit iffy anyway given the US and other sanctions, even if YMTC is the same.)

The funny thing is Verbatim has a decent brand name, and although they're not established in the SSD game, I'd frankly trust them to be less likely to accept the poor QC drives. So I'd normally suggest those Vi7000g drives which are likely the same thing and have a heatsink to boot over this given the same price as it is. But with Verbatim's silly 2 year warranty it's a bit off a tradeoff either way. Also no guarantee you'd get YMTC232L+MAP1602 especially on 2TB although I do suspect it quite likely.

          • @Nil Einne: I wouldn't trust the Verbatim Vi7000g as they've opted for the older YMTC 128L TLC flash with issues. Classic Verbatim going for the cheapest available.

            • @Clear: According to reports from someone who bought one, the 4TB at least was YMTC232L+MAP1602 https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14984274/redir

While there's no guarantee it's the same for the 2TB although we should know in a few weeks, nor is there any guarantee any particular 4TB or 2TB you get from Amazon Japan will be the same, I suspect they will be. Everyone else using YMTC128L+IG5236 seems to have moved on to YMTC232L+MAP1602 for 2TB and 4TB, and I think even 1TB. And I mean both those cheap random Chinese brands, but also the more well known other ones. So I assume it must be a cheaper combo.

I was actually a bit surprised Verbatim had launched with the older combo since I think YMTC232L+MAP1602 was already somewhat popular mid 2023 when I think the Vi7000g was launched, but I guess lead times etc meant it's what they went with. Then I thought, well they're advertising it with DRAM everywhere (and they only just released it) so I guess they have no choice but stick with that combo. But that didn't seem to matter for the 4TB so doubt it matters for the 2TB.

Although I suspect they have here, I wouldn't say Verbatim always goes with the cheapest option. They were a known possible source of Taiyo Yuden CD-Rs which were generally considered the best out there at one time. (Only the made in Japan ones.)

              • @Nil Einne: Just a word of warning, I heard on Disord a few days ago from an extremely trustworthy source that some of the Chinese SSDs with MAP1602+YMTC232L are in fact coming with YMTC128L (but still MAP1602), so it's something that does exist. I still think the Verbatim is very likely MAP1602+YMTC232L and if not, I suspect IG5236+YMTC128L is more likely but as always when vendors randomly change components without any indication, YMMV and so it's always a risk.

According to the listing, "The product is subject to the actual product." The don't seem to supply any specs relating to MTBF rates or TBW stats.

Looks like this bunch of Fikwots is related to OnlyFanxiangs - the flash disk plugged into the phone in this video is a Fanxiang, as well as some of the boxes on the 'drop and vibration testers' - https://cdn.shopify.com/videos/c/vp/7912950c0779477ab8088ca0…

Fikwot - yes that video does feel like you're having mini seizures but at least "The factory have automatic screw machine"

  • I have never heard of this brand name are they reliable?
