Half the price of many other airlines, this is one of the cheapest ways of getting to Shanghai I've ever seen. Add in more city examples below (and others) and you're in to win.

Flights are with Beijing Capital Airlines, whose parent company is the more well known Hainan Airlines.

Can also see some solid hotel discounts

  • bruh return?

    • +5

      Yes, return.

      • Thanks for posting the offer!

Can I ask if you know what the offerings are likely to be available for Oct-Nov period, is that likely to be a period where deals are thriving?

    • +1

man, i wonder how they even make money on these flights - it's not like shanghai is next door to syd/melb.

  • -1

Capital Airlines - do I die after flying?
Jokes aside this is a really good deal

    • +1

Don't really get your joke. What's wrong with capital airlines?

      • Whoosh
        Capital = death
Eg capital punishment = death penalty

        • +11

          Still not funny

          • +12

@ubcool: In the future we will be sure to check for your personal approval before any jokes are made on ozbargain.

          • @ubcool: lets see you do better then

        • that joke is not funny cause capital != death though

          capital = head
capital punishment= cut the head off
          capital city = head city
          ….

  • +6

Good deal as always from BTF, but here for the comments

    • +16

I know, I should start giving over/under odds on someone making a Wuhan reference within 30 min…

  • Does the airline also fly (transit) to other cities like Guangzhou?

    • -1

@beatthatflight you should start a Wuhan betting site for OZB

    • +6

This is what I am expecting

    • -2

Any good deals on Wuhan Institute of Virology tours?

      • +1

just walk in, you are good on your own. once inside take out your phone and start filming and you are golden.

  • +3

Out of curiosity, can anyone read the Chinese characters on that pagoda? That looks like an AI image, and I'm wondering what it's written.

EDIT: I put it into Google Translate, and apparently it says "Too big". 😆

    • +1

      Confirming it is AI generated

    • +1

I need to start incorporating hidden messages in them ;)

    • I speak Chinese. It’s definitely AI generated figure. But the first character from right means “people”. The second from right looks like “people” or “big”. Cannot tell. The rest of them don’t make any sense.

  • +5

    These guys are alright.

Flew into Qingdao, the planes are like 20
Years old and the safety video has a romantic subplot for some reason.

    • -1

Now I want to fly just to watch the safety video! I don't want to go to china though and I don't want to fly on a chinese airline with 20 year old planes. Decisions, decisions.

      • +7

You flown Qantas right? The A330s come pretty close in terms of years

        • +3
        • +1

          Yes and no.
The cabin on Capital Airlines and Tianjin Airlines have not been retrofitted since it first flew.

Qantas' A330-200s and A330-300s went under a full renovation in 2014-2017 with new cabins, wifi ect

          • +1

@AircraftFreight: only some of the A330s got Wifi (unless things have changed since I did the wifi testing for them ;))

            • @beatthatflight: Only select A330s sure.
              VH-EBA -> VH-EBM are all wifi enabled

The A330-300s do not have wifi currently as they are being retired in the short future. I'd imagine the newer A330-200s which serve more international routes due to their longer range, extended ETOPS and MTOW/MLW figures will be fittied with wifi to replace the oldest A330s.

              • @AircraftFreight: Indeed, and I gather any new Qantas planes will have wifi from the factory. Just need Viasat to get their satellites up…

      • +5

If the price is right and the timetabling is good, there's no matter.

As said below, they're old fashioned cabins. The headphone jacks are those two prong ones.

Bring an ipad, or just sleep. The food isn't bad.

        A seat's a seat.

Also, off memory baggage allowance is like 2x 23kg bags per person.

  • Urgh… I guess we have to get used to all these AI images eventually.

  • +3

Good deals, but got tix booked for the entire 2024.

And I am here for the racist, discrimination, hate speech and moron comments..

    • -4

      Hate speech doesn't exist buddy.

  • -6

    Wuhan = ground zero visit

    • +8

Look I've been to Wuhan on numerous occasions and its a very quirky and interesting city, a significantly different city than other PRC cities.
If you have done all of the original 4, Tier 1 cities you should consider visiting Wuhan, Nanjing and Xi'an.

      • +5

        +1 for Xi'an (no bias).

      • quirky

        batty?

  • C'mon ppl, time to decouple for the S1W…

  • @beatthatflight Is checked luggage included in the fare ?.

    • Capital Airlines include two 23KG bags in all economy fares. Carry on is 7kg (if I recall correctly), but no one checks.

    • +1

If you’re going to make a silly outdated joke, at least spell the animal (Pangolin) correctly.

      • -5

You’re a flying ace and a spelling Nazi - just like Hermann Goering

        • -1

          Lol nice one.

  • -1

Batman references to get negged 🦇

  • +3

    any deals from brissy?

  • +2

Is this the same Chongqing that's been doing the rounds on Insta/Tiktok, where there's millions of stairs?

    • +1

Chongqing is a rapidly growing city. Many provinces are flooding advertisements across the world in an attempt to capture a very small market of international tourists.

  • +4

    Came here for Wuhan joke

  • Any deals going from Brissy or Gold Coast? :)

  • I couldn't take a photo in China in previous trips for my safety. May be too worry but after passing security checks for transfer passengers twice you will not feel you are safe. Also I had to scan my passport to get password. After using it for minutes I got lots of Chinese ads on my android phone. I had to do factory reset to remove the ads. Still I don't know which app caused it. I don't recommend even transfer in China and using wifi in any chinese airports.

  • +1

Chongqing looks like a really interesting city. If you havent seen this video yet, it looks like something out MC Escher (apologies for IG video).

    • That blew my mind!
