    Capacity?

    • I was just about to ask that. The only one they have on their website is the 3TB one which is currently $150. I doubt it's that one :)

  • Size?

  • 2TB 3.5" usb 2.0

They're on sale at Mt Druitt branch also, so possibly other branches in NSW.

Coffs harbour @ $99. They wont price match. Other HN arnt classified as 'competitors'..Bastards

At the bottom of the in store board as seen in the OP's image, they have "Seen it cheaper? Let us know". So you let them know at another store and they knock you back? Great policy.

Yet another reason to avoid HN wherever possible.

Actually i lied - it was only $98! But yeah, really bad form. The super cool guy that kept calling me dude said that they only will compete with other local retailers. Cant wait till Harvey go out of business, they so deserve it.

officework for a HP 2TB USB 3.0 is a better deal IMO

      "was" a better deal

"Was" ?? lucky I struck while the HDD was hot

    • was was it a better deal?

  • can these be cracked open and used internally?

    • It appears that the 3.5" drives are not "welded" to their controller like the 2.5" elements drives are, at least it seems that way looking at this video

      • very good deal if so

Well yes and no. If you remove the drive and never have any problems with it, this sure seems to be the cheapest 2TB drive at present. However if you do take it out of the case and it fails for whatever reason, unless you can put it all back together flawlessly with no signs of intrusion etc, you may have problems claiming on the warranty.

I don't know if these drives have a security sticker that you have to break or remove to open them, also don't know if to open them you have to use excess force thus damaging the plastic in some way etc. If you're willing to risk having no warranty, go for it :)

        • WD Warranty… Well, one of my WD HDDs failed. Went through the warranty process and got a refurbished drive. The refurbished drive was noisy and died within 6 months. When the refurbished drive died, the 3 year warranty just finished…

Just purchased one from HN @ QV and have removed from its case.
          Can confirm the following:

1/ drive is WD20EARX Green label, no security stickers, so easy to put back in the case if you have any issues, not even sure if you need to put back in its case as it just comes up as a hard drive when you do the warranty check, no mention of it being an external unit

2/ Checked warranty period and the one i have expires in Sept 2015 (3 years)

HN QV had at least 30 on the floor as of 12:30pm today

    • Yes. When I bought one of the HP N40s six months or so ago I populated it with 4x2TB drives from all the external drives I previously been using as storage - these were all this model. The physical drives inside differed slightly from each other as did their mountings but they all came away very easily.

If you want to re-use the enclosures, only WD drives work in them though (from my brief tinkering).

  • 2TBs are almost back to $80…

    • +1

      where?

im only seeing $100 at msy's in VIC

      • +1

I meant that they were that price before the floods. This deal gets closer…

Waiting for 3TB to reach $120.

    • Ah I see, you're saying things are getting closer to where they used to be, not that 2TB drives are generally around $80 now.

  • Thanks for posting! I price-matched at QV Officeworks! :) Supposedly they have one more as of about 1:30pm today.

    • does that mean they're sold at at HN?

  • Deal off. They have risen to $98.
    Boo Harvey Norman…Boo.

    • That's hardly a reason to neg the deal.
