I've got the magic one for iPad Pro and it's great. Real high quality, just like the Surface Pro keyboard but it has a much better trackpad.

    • Its odd magic keyboard doesnot have function keys

      • The Magic Keyboard folio does, the brightness function keys and such, but the rest of the keyboards don't. It is odd.

    • I’ve got a white one for 12.9 pro. The material is pretty prone to stains, but it’s already deteriorating the edges is all curly and peeling off. It should last longer for a $500 product. And the return/enter key would just not work for some weird reasons, you need to detach the iPad from the keyboard to kinda reset the device.

    • Why are these so cheap? Isn't this like 399$ from Apple? Or am I confusing two similar products?

      • I think no one is buying them. The price of the keyboard case is more than half the cost of the iPad itself. People that have that sort of money would more likely get the Air or Pro

        • I guess so. I wanted to buy one for a gift for a birthday in May, but I was going to get a third party one because the Apple one is so absurdly, stupidly expensive. It would be pricey at half the price.

It still seems suspicious that it jumped from 399 to 129, tho. Like, why no in between?

Also I'm wondering if it'll still be that cheap in May or if I should just buy it now and hold onto it…

      • These are the folio. Not the actual Magic Keyboard with the floating hinge.

        • Thanks. Do they make the 'actual' Magic Keyboard for the iPad 10? On the Apple site the only one they have listed is 'Magic Keyboard Folio - From A$399'

          • @MrMcHairyHead: I don't think so now that you mention it. From what I can see the floating Magic Keyboard with the USB chargeable hinge is only a Pro/Air model thing.

Cheers, had no problem price beating at OW

      • Whereabouts?

        • I just called the 1300 office number today and they price beat phonebot. There was some initial resistance as the model numbers don't match (ow seems to have their own product code), but the JB hi-fi listing has the same barcode as ow and same model no as phonebot. In case that helps someone

65% off RRP on a brand new Apple product that they currently sell 🤯

Smh at my temptation to buy this now and save up for a compatible iPad later LOL 😵‍💫

    • +1

$699 at the HED store and includes a $120 voucher

    • Lol. I've got a used iPhone se 3 (ultimate dumb phone) coming in the mail, im considering buying this as I'm assuming I'm predicting I may want something iOS ish late down the line to go with the phone.

  • Does anyone know if this works with the iPad Air 5th Gen (10.9")

Apple kindly suggests a $489 keyboard for this model https://www.apple.com/au/shop/product/MJQJ3ZA/A/magic-keyboa…

    • +2

Unfortunately it does not according to Apple. You can view all Apple's keyboards and the iPads they're compatible with here: https://www.apple.com/au/shop/select-ipad-keyboards

You can also check out Logitech and other brands that also make keyboards for iPads.

      • yeah im wondering why not as they are both 10.9" ipads, is it really incompatible or does Apple want us to buy a more expensive one

        • +1

It's really incompatible. The connector pins on the regular iPad which this is for are on the bottom whereas the Air has them on the back.

These keyboards are branded Magic, but they're not nearly as fancy as the ones for the Pro or Air. They specifically designed for the cheaper devices.

          • @noisymime: No cheap keyboard for me then !

            • +2

@jmc787: Which was almost certainly Apple's intent. Do a separate, cheap keyboard for the cheaper/edu iPads and the more expensive ones have to stick with the fancier accessories.

              • @noisymime: A cheap, 400$ keyboard?

                • @MrMcHairyHead: Well, cheapER. These ones have been on sale basically since the moment they came out, unlike the more expensive Magic keyboards that have always been bloody ridiculously priced.

                  • +1

@noisymime: It blows my mind there is somehow an even more expensive one than that…

              • @noisymime: Maybe not 100% why but at least 99% why they made that decision.

    • What is the best keyboard for the Air 5 with pencil? I had the Logitech combo but didn't like it (too heavy and found it difficult to open up the case)

      • +1

I have a Smart Keyboard Folio and it’s pretty light and easy to open. However, it is quite expensive, the keys feel mushy and doesn’t come with a trackpad

        • There are some Arabic and Japanese versions of this knocking around at the moment for $169 P/N MU8G2AXA vs MXNK2ZA/A for the RRP $299 Australian version. I'm slightly tempted as its just some extra characters printed on the keyboard that I can ignore. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/256276018906 No backlight is another issue with this model.

  • It’s a shame it doesn’t have anywhere to store a pencil on it

  • What's the catch? Why is this so cheap?

    • +1

My guess is a corp, school or uni brought a bunch of them and didn’t end up needing them.

No idea how the warranty would go via Apple.

I tried price matching twice with JB Hifi over the phone and chat - no good.
Tried with Officeworks - they accepted.

    https://www.phonebot.com.au/apple-magic-keyboard-folio-for-i…

    • Pls note that this official apple keyboard doesn't have a dedicated place to store the apple pencil

    • Though it looks fancy and comfortable to use, Sides are unprotected in a fall

Ended up buying another $37 ebay keyboard for the year 4 student who would use it for school edu purposes.
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/404688233942
    $5 ebay plus discount
$3 store discount added to cart
    $37 all up

I don't believe the kids would secure apple pencil or safely handle the iPad 10th gen , to use this apple magic keyboard case.

Still a good case, steeply discounted for adults who would keep it safe

  • Can’t price match at OW.
    Can somebody please clarify?
    Whereabouts?

    • See my comment above, I called as my locals were out of stock. I had to reference JB hi-fi listing to tie OW barcode to model no listed on phonebot site.

  • OOS just as I was heading towards Harvey Norman to price match since OW were total (profanity) about this. Fark!

    • profanity was the word I was looking for. sorry.

      • You still have it at $139 from eBay as per original deal price though
