Netflix Turkey Membership Cancelled on 24/02/2024 - Are You Also Affected? Vote on Poll

Hi all, a lot of people in the netflix turkey thread is saying their membership has been cancelled but did not specific the payment type.

I am trying to determine what the criteria of membership cancellation is, please vote only if you are on Netflix Turkey

Error if your membership is cancelled

Sorry this account is no longer active. Please sign up again or sign in to a different account.”

EDIT: Official "story" provided by netflix:

As per checking To protect members against unauthorized charges, we sometimes cancel accounts that show signs of unusual activity. It looks like your account was canceled for this reason.

They will even recommend you dispute charge via your card company to get a refund as they did not provide you with the service you paid for. So everyone go and get your money back and then buy Turkey Gift Cards ahaha Personally I recommend turgame 200TL gift cards if you order after 5pm they will arrive pretty fast.

              • @Borg: Ta. There are two of these bloody threads going so wasn't sure 😂

            • @G-rig: I saw you setting changes last night. For Windows, the torrent profile is under Streaming but I can’t find the frame rate matching. I'll have another look tonight with all the other tips from today. Thanks everyone for your replies.

              • +1

                @BellaWii: No worries. I initially set it all up on windows by those settings were for the Google TV.

                Oh yeah, I noticed some slightly different settings and didn't see that for windows either.
                There is even a setting to automatically play next episode!

                @tesla not sure about that one but I signed up to RD and apparently don't need a VPN. All a bit new to me.

                https://old.reddit.com/r/Piracy/comments/q3vqgv/introduction…

            • @G-rig: Do you need google TV 4k to watch the 4k streams? I only have the 1080 version of google TV

              • @hazwing: Be hard to without one, but you can do 1080p

      • +2

        Just make sure you are using RD+ links and not choosing the 50gb+ version and you shouldn't have any issues with that type of connection.

        • +1

          Yep and that Reddit guide runs through all the settings, makes it super easy.
          Was streaming 80GB files ok. May take a while at the start but gets goin', good sound too.
          Oppenheimer, Halo series looked mint.

          I noticed HBO has some new stuff:
          - Equalizer 3
          - Tokyo Vice season 12
          - Barbie (may not watch this)
          - curb your enthusiasm S12 (4 episodes)

      • 4k here too for most stuff including movies not available in that quality on streaming. Only thing I found which isn't 4k is Drive to Survive.

      • For me even 1080p items take awhile to start. I tried on my Android TV as well my PC using the web client and both performed badly. This is with real debrid and 100/20 connection. Once it’s going, it’s ok but for a some reason it takes long time to establish a connection and get going.

        • Did you sign up for a RD account? Not free the service but worth it. Some people especially instant, as I was, but more than acceptable given what it is.

        • +1

          I installed the app on the Chromecast with Google TV 4K device last night, made the setting changes suggested by G-rig and was able to watch The last Airbender in Dolby Vision with Dolby Atmos. It started slowly for like the first 30 seconds but after that it was perfect. I used that guide in Reddit that some have shared here to set it all up.

          • @BellaWii: Glad that did the trick!
            I was a bit skeptical at first without knowing about any of this, but it's very good hey.

            • +4

              @G-rig: Surprisingly good, without Netflix cutting us off we would never have the pleasure of getting to know Stremio :)

    • Folks - do we need to use VPN to run this Stremio + Torrentio + RD?
      also , i am with AD (alldebrid) - will it work?
      Ta!

      • Having a Real Debrid account in your setup means you are accessing cached content and not torrents. In this case you do not need a VPN at all. There are no advantages.

        What I found on Google :D .. I'm excited to unsubscribe from all the streaming services now. Thank you, whoever suggested this. Works like a charm on the laptop and the TV (via Google Chromecast).

        • Edit - Ah, I just saw you're with AllDebrid - apparently, all debrid services use cached content, so you should also be in the clear.
    • Stremio + RD + Torrentio has been a game changer at home

  • Anyone getting turkey vouchers coming through today? I've done an order, it is showing as waiting payment in their system, but my card hasn't been charged. I did the checkout process, 2fa with my bank for it.

    Got nothing to say it was rejected etc.

    • Ordered been cancelled, trying again using a different payment gateway. 🤞

  • +1

    Just torrent imho. so very easy and everything can be found on 1 website.

    • This… I am cheering the netflix crackdown, so more impecunious folks get back to sharing content P2P.. Netflix et al almost killed torrenting

  • Mine still active.
    1 week ago, my CC got rejected (this is usual, as it never goes through)

    That is usually my prompt to renew Netflix through Turkish gift cards (Turgame)

    I bought the gift cards without VPN but when I top up on the Netflix website, I always make sure to turn on VPN (Istanbul)

    I have set up a calendar reminder (Netflix shows when your gift card amount will last through), just in case my CC rejection gets flagged through their system this time and I don’t get so lucky.

    • I signed up using gift card and never put in CC details. Whenever I top up gift card, I just do it without using VPN. All is fine
      Also, I used to buy Netflix gift cards through Turgame, but I changed to G2A

  • SBS has far better quality shows and free.

    https://help.sbs.com.au/hc/en-au/requests/new

    • Agree, not sure why u gettin negged

      • He's irrelevant and Linkin an FAQ help page for a start.
        Btw they have some good Stuff, hook it up through Kodi for no ads. Lucky to be 1080p though.

        • I dont get Ads on SBS as Pi Hole blocks them nicely.
          If via PC, Chrome with Ublock also blocks them.

          • @Borg: Yeah same

          • @Borg: What blocklist settings are you using to block SBS ads?

            • @ESEMCE: Can't really find it but was an addon for all the catchup apps for Kodi , maybe just search sbs unless it's in here somewhere

              https://www.matthuisman.nz/2017/08/kodi-freeview-au-iptv-set…

            • +1

              @ESEMCE: My current Pi-Hole Block lists. Beyond these, I have not tweaked anything else. I haven't had the time to determine which one of these manages to block SBS.

              UPDATED: I removed the list (takes up too much space here): I created a .txt file with them and stuck onto Dropbox. You can copy/paste from here. Hope it helps.

          • +1

            @Borg: Whoa that's amazing, I figured they were spliced into the stream and hence unavoidable. Thanks

        • +1

          You can request tv shows by the way. If they get enough public interest and if it is viable/can get the publishing rights then they may consider your request. No Guarantees.

  • the gift card from 2000,00 does that mean its a 998 AUD GC?

    • +1

      the , in Turkish money is a decimal place. So that is a 2000 TRY GC, so about $100 AUD

      • +3

        I wouldn't spend that much on gift cards and if account gets locked again is gone

  • My resub through India I did after turkey was cancelled has now also been cancelled. That was the last attempt for me. Bye Netflix, you really won’t be particularly missed.

      • +2

        It is not only 2x , Turkey does not enforce household IP so a Turkey netflix account can be freely shared with friends and family interstate

      • +2

        Honestly, if you're aren't paying the proper amount you might as well just pirate it. All you're doing is screwing over all of the people that want to use the service in these other countries.

          • @G-rig: There's also all the people that are saying Netflix can choose between $X or $0, well they choose $0…

            If you are only paying $12 between a few families they don't want you. It's a bit like the farmers who leave stuff rotting on the floor rather than trying to get it to market. It probably costs them more so they just leave it.

            Ultimately, Netflix would probably be better off if you pirate rather than have 3/4 families watching all of the content for $12 a month.

            • @ozbs25: Cheapskates, this is Ozbargain don't forget

      • -1

        2x the price and you can’t share it with other members of your extended family. No thanks. I was on Netflix via turkey for years. It took 30s to resubscribe via India. Now that’s also blocked Netflix gets no more time or money from me. There is hardly any decent content on there. $11 and giving it to my extended family was already the limit for me personally of actual value on that service.

        • Go to Brazil

    mine also got cancel but i decided to sign up for the $23 a month plan. you won this time netflix.

  • Update!! My nigeria account got nuked just like my Turkey. Sticking to yt india and stremio + torrentio with realdb. (profanity) netflix.

    All this happens after all of us sign up with Nigeria, isn't it?

    • it's almost like they got angry seeing a flood of turkey cancellations & fllood of Nigeria sign ups, so they just shut everyone down lol

    Google Gemini summarised 3000 words of chat with the Netflix support agent - super frustrating. Let me know if someone wants the full transcript

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    It's clear that there's a frustrating discrepancy between what you, the user, expected from Netflix, and what Netflix's policies and system actions dictated. Here's a breakdown of the main areas of disagreement and confusion:
    Netflix's Definition of "Household"
    Your understanding: "Household" means people in a family unit, regardless of physical proximity.
    Netflix's evolving definition: A Netflix Household seems to primarily be defined by devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network, meaning everyone sharing an account must primarily be on the same network at the same physical location.
    The problem: Netflix's messaging has clearly been unclear. They use the term "household," leading to understandable assumptions on your part which their definition now contradicts. It seems there has been a recent policy shift which hasn't been communicated well to customers.
    Unusual Activity and Cancellation:
    Lack of warning: The cancellation of your account due to "unusual activity" seemed abrupt and without sufficient warning or opportunity to clarify your situation.
    Unclear definition: Netflix's definition of what constitutes "unusual activity" is vague. It's unclear how the company can justify canceling a subscription without further communication with the subscriber.
    Policy documentation: You are correct in requesting clear policy documentation on this. It appears Netflix either doesn't have a clear policy readily available on "unusual activity" or failed to communicate it transparently.
    Refund Policy:
    Passing responsibility: Netflix's suggestion to seek a refund from your bank for a cancellation they initiated is problematic. It places the burden on you rather than taking accountability for their decision.
    Gift cards: The fact that Netflix cannot provide refunds for gift cards, even with account termination initiated by them, seems like a questionable practice.
    Overall Customer Service
    Templated responses: The support agent's responses often felt repetitive and lacking in addressing the nuances of your concerns.
    Lack of empathy: There was little recognition of the frustration you were experiencing.
    Actions You Can Take
    Escalate: Ask to speak to a supervisor or someone higher up in Netflix customer support. Explain your situation calmly and reference specific points from the transcript where you believe policies were unclear or you weren't given fair warning.
    Consumer protection: Research consumer protection agencies in your region (India, in this case). Look into options for filing a formal complaint regarding Netflix's practices if you feel they are unfair or misleading.
    Publicity (Caution): While the threat of going public got the agent's attention, proceed with caution. It's advisable to exhaust customer service and formal complaint channels first before escalating to such measures.
    Important Notes
    Netflix may be undergoing internal policy changes, explaining the miscommunication on "household" and "unusual activity" definitions. It's a large company, so such shifts could take time to roll out smoothly.
    Companies can legally modify their terms of service, but they have an ethical obligation to communicate significant changes clearly and to customers in advance.
    • I think "Household" is pretty straightforward in meaning a single dwelling, or at maybe multiple dwelling given that they're all on the same property. Maybe if the properties are adjacent, the residents may informally act as though they're communal. I don't think the average person considers a family member part of the same "household" if they are permanently living somewhere far away. I certainly wouldn't count my sister as being in the same household as myself if she permanently relocated interstate or overseas.
      As for consumer protections, were you breaching TOS? Were you lying about your place of residency to use their services? If so, what grounds do you even have to complain about them shutting your account?
    Glad i paid plex pass.
  • refund update. Called Amex on Monday for a refund. Two days later I saw credit adjustment $11.79 on my account. I think Amex credited it out of curtesy instead of chargeback to Netflix merchant. I wanted it Amex to recharge back to Netflix to make them feel the pinch. Netflix won again this time!
    • It probably costs Amex more to process/investigate than to just give you that amount back.
  • Sigh ..back to free sites / torrents again
  • Is it now fully confirmed that TR gift cards work without being cancelled?
    If so is it random if the region block kicks back in and you need to vpn to use?
    • Not confirmed, but very high chance - there are still 10 people whose membership got cancelled while on gift card payment.
      Personally, I've moved to TR gift card only payment to test it out, I am region block tho, will report back in 30 days ahaha.
      I know if you VPN to Turkey and redeem TR gift card, then you will be region locked.
      • I am same as you using gift cards.
        • I dont mind keep paying with gift cards if my family can still use my account with no problems
    • Im using a GC now and seems to be working so far so good. I do have to VPN into Turkey though but it does work for the time being.
      I restarted on the 24 but says the month ends on the 28th, i do remember reading something saying it will use all the GC until its done and then charge on the back up payment. So will see what happens at the end of March and I reckon if i do need a VPN then i may just cancel and move Stremio + Real Debrid.
      • Lol report back in a month and see how long it works with geolocation off. Hopefully you don't have to pay with GC forever, sounds like a PITA.
        • nah no plans on having to renew with GC forever. If it dont work then i most likely will not keep it.
          honest truth was getting a little bored with Netflix and only have been keeping cause of the cheaper option. Happy to go back to RD, reminds me of the old school Kodi days.
          • @duckdodgers245: It seems you'd have to stick with GC after 30 days, hard to change payment method unless they do it manually. Nothing stopping another audit of foreign credit cards.
            It's pretty good, much more integrated with all the services and popular/trending titles/catalogues. I still use Kodi for the catch up services , and TVirl app for FTA (IPTV)
            • @G-rig: Yeah fair point. So i signed back up on the 24/2 and it says my sub finishes on the 28/3 so technically i get 2-3 days over the 30. So if it all works fine then i just reactivate the sub and continue on.
              I miss those good old days. Netflix, YouTube, Stan and Disney+ ruined all that fun for me haha
  • Any tips to makes RD faster?
    Do I need to use a VPN?
    It takes about 5sec to load a video, regardless of the quality (1080p or 4k).
    I tried a few and it's never instantaneous.
    I tested their speed test, it's rather confusing. First server was very slow but the other were fast.
    (I have a gigabit internet)!
    I also tested with and without Vpn but it's often worse with the VPN.
    • Don't need vpn.
      5 sec is fine. Would take you a lot longer to look for and download manually, not sure what you're expecting. Can't argue for the price and better than I expected.
      Just think about what you want to watch instead of flicking around every minute.
      You can literally do away with all of the streaming services, but up to you.
      • I agree but if I want to convince my partner to switch from Netflix it needs to be fast 😂
        • +1
          Fast to sit and watch 5h of telly a night lol
          It's very reasonable when you think what it's doing. And basically free.
          I would just set it up, get a month for $6 and test it out, wouldn't be Too hard to convince people when they can see all the different services and shows available that you wouldn't even have on Netflix.
    • In the speedtest each line is a different server location. ie. SYD = Sydney. As expected I get the best speed with SYD and it easily maxes out my gigabit connection.
      Did you check the CDN Server selection in your RD Account Settings? (Website)
      It should says Automatic (SYD) and be selected.
      Could also be your device. It loads slow on my old TV but fast on my desktop.
      Also if you watch very new/niche/unpopular content, the server needs to cache the files first which adds some delay. The video on Stremio will say [RD download] on it when it needs to do this.
      • I can't see any of those setting on the RD website.
        Even under devices the aren't any. Doesn't seem to affect anything, and after setting up on the PC the other devices just work and everything is setup I've load up Stremio.
        I think 5-10s is fair given the tech and you are streaming cached 50-80GB 4k files
      • Sydney seems full speed, I'm getting almost 1gb/s.
        It works fine once past the first few seconds to start the video.
        I'm wondering if it takes much longer using a VPN and stream from torrents? I expect to.
        By the way I also tried the cdn from the Rd settings page and it didn't make any difference. It's set to SYD server by default.
        • It works fine once past the first few seconds to start the video
          I'm happy to wait a bit for an easy integrated solution, better than I expecteod.
          I think it would take you long to search the various sites, cueue up a download and wait for it to finish, link and play it. Plus you'd end up hoarding movies and shows on hard drives again, running out of space all the time. I don't tend to watch stuff over and over but some people may.
          • @G-rig: So with a set of tools (sonarr, radarr, plex…) you can add trakt list and it automatically download and adds it to your library.
            So if for instance you're only watching the top 10 Netflix, disney+, you'll get that on your server no problem.
            If you add a new movie, it only takes a few minutes most of the time with a gigabit connection to download it.
            But you need to manually add it.
            Where stremio shines is you can search and watch directly,but with the slight delay 😂
            • @ValouSydney: Sounds alright, more than one way to skin a cat. I reckon you'd end up keeping all the titles thou. Better having no evidence lol.
              So you still have to pay for RD and maybe Plex pass.
              • @G-rig: I don't need plex pass but will see if I want to keep RD or not.
                • +1
                  @ValouSydney: Yeah true. I just testing for $6/30 days, although $60/y doesn't break the bank. Quite a slick setup.
              • @G-rig: Talking about evidence, RD keeps track of your downloads for certain time ( not sure if its 1 year). And if you pay via credit card or its easy to link you to that download. You can check your history in the account..
                • @4kbargain: That's handy. Not sure if it's even illegal or anything to worry about, however you could use a one-time card like Wise or Revult.
                  • @G-rig: Unless you pay by cryptocurrency from an account not linked to any exchange, your payment can easily be tracked.
                    But yeah not sure if the downloads are legal or not.
                    • @4kbargain: Yeah not too worried about it, as I am not sure on the legalities but seems fine.
                      Not linked to any exchange.. what would you use then, a metamask wallet?
                      Rorting the Netflix system with password sharing and VPNs isn't either, so it's probably a good thing they ended people's agreements.
  • +7
    Dear god, Stremio + RD + Torrentio is a revelation. Automatic frame rate matching, 4K, HDR, Atmos..
    • how does this differ from plex ? looks similar. i usually grab all my stuff from a special place in 4k dolby vision
    • What exactly is it? Is it the same as Netflix? (download platform, pay fee, stream shows?)
    • hey. do you still have this working?
      Been following the procedure from reddit… Stremio + Torrentio + Debrid (Real-Debrid and Torrentio)
      getting stuck with the streamio installation. any chance you could help?
      • What's not working?
      • Stremio is in the app store/google play, it's a normal app and player, I think you have to sign up.
        Otherwise yeah, what not working?
      • Good chat!
  • -3
    well my indian netflix went down after 3 days…i called netflix and blasted them again for not contacting me, not explaining anything, how can they take money and not notify me blah blah blah.
    anyway they processed a refund.
    ohh well no more netflix for me.
    • +1
      If they had to contact every overseas Indian subscriber, they wouldn't be enough Indians to man the call centres. It's one thing to want to save a few bucks, but expecting Netflix to call before cancelling is a bit rich.
      • +5
        Don't have to call. A simple email will suffice. This kind of shit can be automated.
        • +2
          Why should they, You were rorting the system and most likely violated the terms (as we all did), I think most people knew this hack wouldn't last forever. There isn't even that much to watch after a while, just have a break and try out some other services.
  • Full refund of February charge just processed back to my Wise account from Netflix tonight. I had raised a dispute for the 11-Feb payment on Monday, and Netflix refunded before Wise had to rule.
    • For the refund did you call their 1800 number or their chat support?
      • I just called them an hour ago. Without getting into the nitty gritty, was informed that a Refund was already underway as of yesterday the 29-Feb-24 (membership was cancelled on 18-Feb-24) and to wait a few days for it to appear back on bank.
        It's unbelievable that they do not email anything noting the cause nor that a refund is now in process.
        Cause of Cancellation (for what it's worth) = Sharing not permitted anymore in Turkey and unusual activity due to viewing in Australia (different WiFi)….blah blah.
      • @Rockhard I actually tried both (1800 and chat) with absolutely no success whatsoever (see my other comments). They're all reading from the same script about this it seems, and all attempts to get the rep to process a refund were a dead end. Despite others saying that calling the 1800 number got them a refund.
        My guess is that my refund has either been initiated by Netflix automatically, or they somehow got wind of the dispute I raised with Wise and got on the front foot.
  • +1
    If you're trying to save 90% off netflix sub you may as well just go sailing
    • -4
      Turkey isn't even cheap anymore, it's half the price.
      • +5
        Your ignorance towards benefits of Turkey membership vs AU is laughable. It has been explained to you multiple times that Turkey premium has less restrictions compared to AU and equivalent plan in AU costs 4 times as much due to paying for additional household.
        Turkey premium I can share between 4 people regardless of IP address around the world for $12. Which is $3 per person.
        Au premium is $22.99 for 4 people in a single household but any sharing is $7.99 additional household, up to 2 more. Total is $38.97 for 3 different household IP. Sharing between 3 people = $12.99 per person.
        There is a use case to still go with Turkey subscription.
        • -4
          See below matey, fracking down on sharing lol.
          It's not reliable and is inconvenient to pay, but ymmv.
          Btw I'm familiar with it and had if for ages, plenty of price increases in that time.
        • +1
          FYI: Turkey no longer allow sharing. I am basing this on what I was told and is the reason for the membership cancellation.
          I did a Netflix Profile Export, and there is one included report named: AccessAndDevices.csv. It does show whether the connected devices part of Netflix Household so it does track.
          • @Borg: Even requesting that report would gain their attention lol
