The title is a bit confusing as it doesn't match the monitor specs in the description but it appears to be a rebadge of the kenowa monitor deal which I personally own and can attest to the display quality with a bit of tweaking.

  • Can we hook up switch to this?

    • +4

Yes, will connect via HDMI. You will get some black bars as the output is 1080p and this monitor is 1200p

  • One review says it hums a bit when brightness is set to max. Can you confirm? @jerdp

    • I have the Kenowa branded one and can't hear any noticeable humming in my personal experience.

      • Thanks, took the plunge! Will see how it performs, otherwise, just return it!

        • It's possible the monitor wasn't getting enough power. While a USB port on a laptop is enough, some with higher brightness/resolution or a touchscreen need a USB charger for that little bit extra.

          • @Clear: Yeah, good point. Might also be some faulty adaptor, or electrical grounding.

        • +1

If it's going to be on par with the kenowa … here are some sample videos of playback via the monitor.
Obviously the samples are not a 100% representation but gives you an idea of the image quality to expect - minus the moire effect and glare present only in the recordings).

          • +1

@jerdp: Thanks, it looks pretty good. I'm just wondering is maybe the resolution is going to be too low for me. My laptop is 2k and my external monitor is 4k, so i'm worried things will look too big on this screen. It should arrive today and we'll see, hopefully i can return it with no dramas after testing it.

    • +2

I don't have any experience with the touchscreen models as I believe you need a device that supports USB C touchscreen output for it to work.

Another option you can take a look at is this Portable Monitor Touchscreen - Akntzcs 14'' FHD 1920x1200P - which is a smaller size but priced at $122.99 after ticking the $30 off coupon.

    • +4

I posted a 14" one with a touchscreen a couple of months ago. But, tbh, it has proven about as useful as, well, a touchscreen on a laptop.

      • Can you link it to phone?

        • +1

If your phone supports video out. You can connect it to this or any portable monitor.

  • +6

I can't see a view of the screen from another angle does this monitor have a kickstand or something or it is just standing up with communist photoshop magic?

    • +3

seems to be the same as this other monitor, you can see a video in Amazon showing the back https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B0CH7Q1MD8

      • +2

Thanks, those videos should be mandatory for a listing so helpful.

    • +5

      with communist photoshop magic

i am stealing this phrase for future use, but first i will upvote your comment because I have honor.

    • +1

Guessing its got a kickstand as it says desk mountable and tiltable.

  • does any know if you can just plug the screen into ur laptop and the portal monitor will work like that. no power point required?

    • +2

Don't have this particular portable monitor. And i got mine plugged into laptop using usb c to usb c cable.

      Works just fine.

Laptop powers it. Drains the laptop battery but it is what it is.

      • thanks for the info!

        • +1

If you didn't have USB-C and HDMI only you would need to power it. A USB port on the laptop would be enough draw.

  • can you use Amazon Fire Tv on these?

    • +2

Yes they have HDMI input, you'll need a USB-C charger to power it. Best to get a dual plug charger so you can power the fire stick from the same charger.

    • what are you going to do about the sound though?

edit* oh damn i see these have inbuilt speakers. technology be wild now.

  • any idea if this works with samsung dex?

    • +1

I've got an older Samsung s20fe 5g and dex works but only via HDMI cable (ie you'll need to plug a separate USB C power source like a power bank)… I believe the latter galaxy models supports dex via direct usb c from phone?

      • damn.. I have an old S10 ..
but i remember trying it with a work Dell monitor using usb c and it worked

I recently purchased this for $135, great resolution and excellent build quality.

    • Did you use some discount code to get that price?

  • If pairing with a computer with a higher resolution (like a MacBook Pro), I'd recommend getting a 2K screen so your resolution matches. Little bit pricier, but worth it IMHO if you're using it for productivity tasks.

    • Do you have any recommendations please?

      • +2

        https://vi.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-16-Inch-2K-Portable-Mo…

I have the UPERFECT one. Only issue is the brightness level resets every time it turns off - it doesn't remember the setting you had it at. Not a huge issue, just slight annoyance.

But I picked it up on heavy discount, so that may factor into my lack of annoyance. Full price and I might think differently.

  • ZFTVNIENIE is the v2

    • wow, tempted to cancel my order and get this one instead

    • +1

I personally prefer the extra real estate a 16" monitor offers when compared side by side to my 14" screen laptop where I'm needing to set magnification to 150% in windows settings to make text in apps legible when using the full 1920x1200 resolution. But to each their own…

    • +1

I got this one as it makes more sense for macbook pro

    • +3

I legit bought this one yesterday before all these deals popped up.

Just came today so will update with a review

      • +4

Just had a play with the monitor.

Build quality is pretty good. Can’t believe how light it is. The folio case is cool although the magnets aren’t super strong but probably good enough for the use case. The screen doesnt have magents on the front so the case doesn’t keep it closed.

Comes with 3 different connection cables and usb type a power brick. All cables are about a meter in length so if you have to plug it in - you’ll require a longer cable for it.

Was super easy to setup. Just plugged into the usb c port and auto connected. I assume it’s a pd port as the laptop is just powering it. Doesn’t seem to be effecting the quality at all.

Screen is clear and on par with the Lenovo x13 the wife uses for work.
Has in built speakers which is cool. Don’t sound great but it’s expected.

        Build quality seems fine.

Overall I’m pretty happy! pretty keen to see what the mrs thinks of it when she uses it over the next few days.

  • Anyone has any experience on how easy it is to return these to Amazon? Can I open it, test it, and then return it if I am not happy?

    • Doesn't seem to have free returns on this item.

16:10! Don't think I've ever seen one of these portable monitors that are 16:10.

    • Search for kenowa portable monitor 16"

      Its 16:10 aspect ratio.

      • Thanks, yeah I saw the older deal for that, didn't see it originally. Most monitors in general are 16:9 so it's good to see a few with 16:10 aspect ratio.

  • +1

The monitor is not 300 nitz. It is very dim. I estimate 120 nitz max. Viewing angle is better than TFT but not great. Only good for working in the dark.

    • Received minetoday. Seems like the brightness continually adjusts for me. Need to work out how to stop it adjusting.

      • +1

Try look for autobrightness in the settings.

        • Does this monitor support auto brightness? Doesn't state it in the user manual.

      • +2

It is quite bright this morning after I plugging in USB C charger then connecting to the computer. It is actually pretty good. Please disregard by earlier comment.

        • Struggled with the same issue. I can see the brightness adjusting when i switch from a completely black program to, let's day, an excel spreadsheet. Feels a bit weird but still work ok for the price i paid

          • +3

@pichxlonco: Went into BIOS and changed the USB C power output from 7.5W to 15W. Brightness is no longer changing.

            • @zealmax: Ha, that's great thinking! Thanks for letting me know!! Will have a look if my lenovo BIOS has that setting. It isn't too distracting though as I will only be using it some days
