    Awesome price.

    Well happy with mine

Your SD card slot is still working?

      • +7

Tbh I haven't even used it. I bought a 2 tb HDD instead

        • This! People stress over the SD slot when they could jst get an upgraded ssd that'll run and read games much faster anyway…

  • +1

Any good OLED steam decks that we can use this zippay code with?

  • Damn getting cheap

  • +2

So do these run straight vanilla windows 11 with ASUS software built on top? Meaning you get microsoft 365 ads and other bs windows shit whenever you switch to desktop mode on it?

    • +4

You can just install whatever windows you like, then do the usual drivers etc. I’m on spectre and it’s been great, but if you have issues with third-party customisations, you can just install windows the normal way and debloat after. The downside is you don’t get the fingerprint sensor thingy as it’s bind to non-local windows accounts, and I for one would need to be paid to even entertain the idea. Haven’t tried to activate the trial game pass yet since my nbn isn’t working.

I am very tempted to get an Ally, however the SD card slot issues put me off. That and apparently there may be a version 2 Ally coming up this year.

    • +8

I have one and just went with a 2TB SSD replacement instead. Great device!

      • +2

Yeah and as I said in an above comment, it's not worth stressing about the SD when upgrading the internal ssd is so easy and gets you faster file access on the expanded storage.

Ebay plus member, tried with zippay. code didn't work
I was not the chosen one. Can't see any zippay codes in my messages.
This deal saved me $990 !!!!!!!!

    • Same. Haha.

  • I had an ally, bought in June and swapped at JB for a new one. The SD card slot is working fine. Apparently those were fixed with later revisions. anything newer than August seems to be fine.
I sold mine back in November as I'm also awaiting a V2 for this year.

  • Not an ATL. I paid (from memory) $937 last year around BF for Aussie stock.

  • +4

I wouldn’t buy it from eBay, let along Kogan. The memory card issue is real, even with JB you are looking at two-week turnaround for repairs if you are out of the replacement window. Also the damage to the memory card is not covered by the warranty, just so that people are aware.

    • +1

Out of the replacement window? This hasn’t even been out for a year lol.

      • +1

I think he’s referring to under six months they’ll replace with new or refund on the spot vs RMA.

My launch day Ally SD card reader stopped working and I took it in at just over six months. Luckily JB refunded me straight away and I could buy it again at the sale price.

        • +2

That’s not how Australian Consumer Law works. The SD card failing and rendering your device useless is certainly a major fault. You can decide on replacement, refund or repair. Not JB Hifi.

          • +3

@Broos: I don’t know if it is a major fault, honestly. The device still runs and you can play games as usual, not like you get a blue screen and it only boots into bios.

Either way, I would not risk it with Kogan because there’s a possibility that I’d have to write a letter of demand to make anything happen. Rather spend that time exploring Hogwarts 😆

            • @Alley Cat: It’s certainly a major fault for me. As I purchased the Ally to run emulators from an SD Card.

A major problem means the product:

              • is unsafe
              • is very different from the description or sample
              • has either one serious problem or several smaller problems that would stop someone buying the product if they knew about them beforehand
              • can’t be used for its normal purpose, or another purpose the consumer told the seller about before they bought it, and can’t easily be fixed within a reasonable time.
              • @Broos: 2 weeks would fall under a reasonable time. It might have changed since, but when I used to work there repair turnaround under 4 weeks was considered acceptable.

                • @Mixhael: Asus hasn’t acknowledged a fix for this SD card failure problem yet. People are still getting their Ally’s back from repair and experiencing a failure of the SD card reader almost immediately. In the last month some people have reported seeing a fourth revision (R9) of the Ally that we’re seeing less failures for. But as it’s a very recent revisions there’s no evidence that it solves the SD Card reader issue. So, it’s certainly a major fault. A problem with no solution that, for some, has rendered their device useless is an easy major fault case.

          • @Broos: Im no expert on this but dont they usually send it back to the manufacturer to get assessed and repaired which coukd take forever vs refunding me on the spot?

            • @jace88: It has nothing to do with the manufacturer. I’d suggest you read through your consumer rights, as sadly very few stores are forthcoming with the elements that support positive consumer outcomes.

Naturally, most retailers want to keep your money so they offer repairs first. You, as the consumer, get to decide what remedy you want, including a refund on the spot (for a major fault).

              • @Broos: Thanks for the info. I had a read but was still confused as to how that interplays with the need to assess the item which may require external help. Im still happy with my refund on the spot but thought there are some circumstances when they cant make a call at the shop and need to send it in.

  • Price match at jbhifi?

    • +1

Pretty sure you can't price match coupon deals. But try your luck

    • +5

we will not price-match anything from ebay @ jb

    • Absolutely no chance of a match, still worthwhile asking them what the best price they can do is. I was shopping for a watch, let them know what I could buy it at, and after all discounts they were about $10 more expensive - but worth it as I was buying it for a friend, and any warranty issues they could go into a store, rather than ship back to Sydney (admittedly a legitimate seller there too).

  • Can anyone screenshot checkout price to try our luck with jbhifi?

  • This is far superior to the steam deck ….well worth the money.

  • This or the Lenovo Legion Go Z1 Extreme ?
The Legion has better screen and more performance?

    • A few early bug issues with Lenovo. But it's the better device overall. Just hope they release firmware to improve it.

    • Apparently for portability legion is too big compared to ally

      • I was tempted to get a legion when i returned my Ally but after holding the legion it was a no go for me. Felt too bulky. Some harvey normans have them on display if you want to check.

I bought this Rog Ally from the Kogan eBay a couple of months ago and it turned out to be a grey import, despite saying that it had an Australian warranty. It's no big deal though, it's the same device, but I had to go into Administrative windows settings to change the entire regional and language from Japanese to Australian English. There's still some interesting glitches in Windows sometimes for example going into Sound settings and it's still in Japanese.

When I got mine I modded it with the 2230 - 2280 NVME drive adaptor and slotted in a 4TB Nvme ssd. Highly recommend this path if you're intending to install a bunch of games on it, I've installed most of my main library with 1.2tb to spare. The installation process was super easy, the longest wait was for the drive adaptor to come from China. I know opening the device partially voids the warranty but I'm sure if I just put the old drive back in, and close everything back up I doubt they'll notice the difference internally.

I reckon this device will be my main gaming machine when travelling as it's light, and specs are pretty good for playing most games at medium settings, my steam deck is heavier than this device. Highly recommend the ROG Ally, if anything for the ability to mod it with a 2280 SSD.

  • Anyone know how to get the zippay code? I can't find mine?

  • Can you dual boot into Windows ?
An plug it into monitor for work, Web browsing.

  • When does this deal ends?
