Does Optus get your details? And how is their coverage?

    • Optus wholesale

      • I understand that but what I don't know is do Optus get my details? I assume not, but you never know

        • -1

Yes they do, its the same as Boost and Telstra, they see you are a user of the network, but cannot help with any account details.

        • Optus knows where you live 😱

      • Should have the same coverage, afaik Optus doesn't differentiate coverage like Telstra does.

    • +4

Doesn’t get your detail, but do get you outage.

      • lol should have asked about that first

    • Optus is actually good in my area compared to Vodafone and Telstra - 2 Bars for Vodafone/Telstra inside, 3/4 bars for Optus

      YMMV

      • Yeah, optus is better in my rural town and surrounds (10k people in a 50km radius). They have more towers in better spots while telstra has only one at half the height meaning there are shadows behind buildings, water towers etc.

      • Optus sucks where I am, Vodafone is the best followed by Telstra.
Strangely enough the signals all come from the same tower, it must be just due to how they've got their antennas configured.

        YMMV alright

        • you have to be the only one

        • Tot much people lack the back knowledge of how mobile network works and immediately assumes Telstra is good🤣🤣

Vodafone is good at my place too and so as Optus as I have both signal tower in my back yard. Telstra never got to 4G+ standard let alone 5G. I can move my office to the playground and get 5G but then my Optus and Voda get at least 200down and 50 at outdoor. I keep telling the Telstra business account manager of our company 5G? My ass….

    • Snap, hadn't realized it doesn't include international calls

      • +1

People still make international calls the traditional way? ;)
Most of my family is OS and I haven't done this in years. Each to their own.

        • +1

I usually don't either but my parents live in an area of sometimes poor coverage so phone is a good option to have. Also when I'm driving sometimes the Internet connection gets really laggy so phone is a great option there too

        • +2

Comes in handy when you need it. I occasionally need to ring call centres that only have an overseas phone number.

  • Is there any deadline for sim activation?

    • Can't you request activation at a specific date?

      • I can purchase the sim now but would like to activate it in May.
        Wondering this is possible?

        • Oh that's quite a few months away. Maybe call and ask to be sure?

    • I honestly didn't think you could delay activation on a post-paid plan…

  • is the internet quota 15-25-40-100GB monthly or yearly?

    • Data Inclusion & Banking 25GB of included monthly data for use in Australia. This service comes with data banking capped at 200GB. Unused included and data pack data will be added to your data bank at the beginning of each new billing cycle.

    • /M = Monthly

  • +4

    Damn good prices.

      • +3

Surely they can't mess up that badly again (or at least within the next 12 months)?

        • +5

coverage would probably be better than before since less people are using optus now

          • @BLAIL: I doubt that , people have short memories

  • +2

Incredible value for 25GB and 5G access.

  • Does it support Apple Watch?

  • +2

    5g speeds from their website

Optus has capped the 5G speeds for most of our plans at 100Mbps, which is still about as fast as a good quality NBN connection. As at January 2024, the only plan with full 5G capability is the $54.80 200GB plan.

  • How many GB do you watch of netflix and tv subs/mth? Just wondering if 25 is all I need including hotspotting netflix.

    • +1

      It'll vary based on quality you stream at, Android Authority had some test results saying at 4k 6.5gb - 11gb per hour, and at 480P it was as low as 200mb per hour. Link below;

      https://www.androidauthority.com/how-much-data-does-netflix-…

      • +1

        Thanks playaz91.
I'm astonished that telco's provide such low bw in the age of subs. Just as well Mom is paying the wifi bill, I was thinking of getting my own apartment.
I need a netflix sp "who will understand the needs of this generation".

        • +4

I think the idea is your generation isn't allowed to enter the housing market anymore, because we've got aged care to pay for and billionaires who want to see if they can become trillionaires.

        • No one expect user to stream 4K off a hotspot. If you really need to do that consider felix, unlimited Vodafone 4G but not sure if it is fast enough for 4k streaming.

If you are only running Netflix off smartphone then you can't stream at 4K anyway. In HD and assume you stream 6-7 hours a day, the 200G plan will work for you.

        • Something I've done in the past is to wait for the Belong Sim cards to be half price at Woolies and buy the most expensive one which (ends up less than $30) this will net you lots of gigs. Once you've activated you can immediately drop down to a $19 plan without losing the data balance.

  • good price, but im going to stick with the telstra network. optus isn't as good, and vodafone should just be out of business, lol

  • +1

Good timing for me, I’ve been on the discounted circles.life student promo (not a student) which was $10 pm, 30Gb for 13 months.

  • No international call unless you get the most expensive package😥😥😥

Good price for a Optus MVNO though especially one that has 5G.

  • +4

Moose have been good for me. I moved off them as my 12 months is expiring, but have had a good year with them.

  • really want to switch from boost but worried about reception in west Melbourne

    • find an Optus MVNO with a cheap starter pack and test, only way to know I think.

      • +2

Google rfnsa. Input your address and see if you are within 1.5 km from a 5G Optus tower.

        • It says Im just over 1km from a tower that does 5G, but there's no 5G on my street or the next street over. I wonder how close you have to be to one of these.

          • @BLAIL: Does it have a blue circle with 5G? if so, that means proposed.

          • @BLAIL: Like yummy burger said. A proposed site from Optus. How far is the black established tower? Generally you want to be no further than 1.8km for peak performance

  • +2

Moose is really good. I don't use much data and was on 6gb $9.80 and $8.80 plans for 2 full years with other companies in between. I wish they brought it back. I don't use more than 5gb a month

  • Thank you for posting. I've been looking to upgrade since my circles plan discount expired. Access to data banking negates the 5gb loss in monthly data, and 5g is a bonus.

  • -4

They have rediculous excess data usage charges. Their app has a delay of around 24 hrs to update used data. Most of their reviews online are fake.

    • +2

Ive used them and im happy. Agree with you that there's a delay and everyone should note that its post paid

    • +1

Well don’t go over it then or get a bigger plan. Pretty simple. Not a reason to neg.

      • I guess the delay could be very annoying, that has definitely put me off, although I feel this is standard for post paid services, but I agree, it's not a valid reason for a neg on the deal.

  • Roaming is expensive at $15 per day

  • Much much better of with something like Vodafone prepaid annual plan deals lately

    Like https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/829831

5 gb less but also only $125 for 1 year or like $10.4 a month too

    • -1

Depends on coverage too, Vodafone have many n28 only sites where they force 5G SA, Resulting in a poor network experience

    • -3

The Vodafone deal you're referring to is data only, no calls or texts. For an extra $52.60 a year I'm getting unlimited AU calls and texts plus extra 60gb than the Vodafone deal.
The "much much better of"really depends on your needs. This Moose deal is a no brainier for me.

      • +1

Icorrect. The Vodafone deal they posted includes calls and SMS, it's not a data only SIM.
"Includes unlimited standard national calls and texts as well as 50 international standard texts."
Roaming is also much cheaper on Vodafone if you travel OS.
Just best to get what is right for you, no wrong or right, that's the beauty of all the choice we have now.

  • Sad, No international calling in smaller packs. :(

  • Anyone used them with a modem? I asked and they weren't sure.

    https://imgur.com/h7ctMnA

  • i wonder if this 5G speed capped or not i couldnt figure it out anywhere on their website.

    • Capped at 100Mbps on 5G.
Only plan with uncapped 5G speeds is the $54.80 200GB plan.

      • thanks good to know.

  • moose is good!

  • What’s the carrier name say with moose? Is it Optus or moose?

    • Shows up as "YES OPTUS"

Moose looks like they have made some adjustments to their plans :

      15 GB : $14.80 for 8 months was previously $16.80 for 12 months

      25 GB : 11.80 for 8 months was previously $14.80 for 12 months
