      • Yeah I agree but I notice in te t&c it does not seem to make any reference to variable loads and I get it…it’s hard to show what you could get with a variable load card but it got too confusing so I just left it as I was not prepared to risk it. My local only has $50 Everyone cards so I got that for now…

  • Hello, is this for Variable Loads or single denomination cards? Or will I get the flybuy points for either? Thanks

    • Also trying to work this out. Staff member at register advised variable cards won't work, and the variable load cards are not listed in the T&C's, where's the fixed denominations explicitly are. However, it's not possible to reach the max 50,000 points listed in the T&C using the the fixed denomination cards (max $100 x 5 cards per FB account). Currently on the phone with Coles to try and get an answer.

      • +3

Coles said contact Flybuys. Flybuys couldn't give a confident answer, but leaned towards saying the variable load wouldn't work. I don't trust their answer to be honest.

I bought a variable load loaded with $55 to test it, but they said these points should take 48 hrs to reflect. Will report back.

        • +2

Coles Facebook chat confirmed that the variable load cards are included in the promotion. Take that for what it's worth.
I guess tomorrow night we should hear from those who bought this morning as to whether their points came through…

    • Yes I bought 3x $100 home gift cards and two $500 birthday variable load cards yesterday and got 1x and then 19x points on all of them them tonight.

  • Can anyone confirm the variable card $500 is included.
Suspiciously there are a lot them still available making me think they are not.

  • I just purchased 5x$500 variable load card this morning at Coles southern cross this morning. Staff knew variable load was included and said a max of 5 with 50k points.

They didn’t have many. I only managed to grab

    1x500 ultimate everyone
    2x500 ultimate birthday
    2x500 ultimate celebrate

    • +1

Let us know if the points came up

      • +2

Sure. I’ll only know tomorrow evening when the points arrive (or not).

      • +2

Points came up. I got 50k points.

        • Thanks for confirming

  • Can i make online purchase at jbhi-fi with ultimate cards?

    • +3

      It depends.

      Online transactions at jbhifi.com.au

As far as I am aware, JB Hi-Fi can only accept 1x Ultimate gift card in one online transaction, because they do not have the ability to split payment across multiple Visa cards on their online store.

To get around this, you can go to the Ultimate gift card exchange portal (linked on the Ultimate gift card website) and exchange the partial or full balance of an Ultimate gift card for a JB Hi-Fi gift card of face value between $20 and $500. However, you can only exchange one Ultimate gift card for one JB Hi-Fi gift card through this exchange portal (i.e. you cannot exchange multiple Ultimate gift cards at the same time for one JB Hi-Fi gift card).

You should be able to redeem an unlimited number of JB Hi-Fi gift cards in one transaction on the JB Hi-Fi website, but someone mentioned a few weeks ago that if you ask for a price match and are sent a link to pay for the price match transaction online, you apparently can only redeem a maximum of ten JB Hi-Fi gift cards (and zero Ultimate gift cards).

      "Commercial" portals

JB Hi-Fi also operates "commercial" websites (JB Hi-Fi Business, JB Hi-Fi Solutions, JB Hi-Fi Commercial, respectively), where you can access a selected range of products at "commercial" prices.

JB Hi-Fi’s gift card policy effectively states that you cannot use Ultimate gift cards on their "commercial" portals. I also saw someone comment last year that they could not use an Ultimate gift card on a JB Hi-Fi "commercial" website, but I am struggling to find that comment…

  • +2

Bought a $500 variable load today, will see if bonus will show up tomorrow.

Coles is such dinosaur compare to Woolworths these days. Points takes overnight to show, can't redeem flybuys without a physical card in store, vague GC promo T&C, no digital receipt, no adding of gift card to the app etc etc…

    • no digital receipt

If you've linked your Flybuys account, the Coles app will show your digital receipts in the Payment History section. It won't display the bonus points but you should see your purchase there already.

  • Has anyone had any trouble using the gift cards?

When I go onto the website to convert it to an eGift Card or to even check its balance it says that the card number is not recognised. Thought maybe the cards weren’t activated, so went back to Coles (showed me that the activation was on the receipt, whereas Woolworths usually print separate receipts to activate).

Gave me a phone number and I have to call Coles customer care tomorrow!

    • +1

Based on previous experience, it could take up to a day for it to be activated.

    • +1

      Quick troubleshooting questions:

      • Do you have the Visa or eftpos version of Ultimate gift cards? The Visa version can be exchanged for an eGift card, whereas the older eftpos version cannot. The easiest way to check is whether your card number starts with 4 (Visa) or 5 (eftpos).

      • Are you using 12/29 as the expiry date? (That is the expiry date you use for adding to a mobile wallet or checking the balance or for card-not-present purchases.)

      • Are you inputting the 3-digit CVV into the CVV field?

      • Have you tried using both balance check websites? (Physical Ultimate gift cards can use both https://myprepaidcentre.com.au/ and https://www.cardbalance.com.au/. The first website requires the PCN stating with 6, whereas the second website requires your card number starting with 4, the expiry date of 12/29, as well as the CVV printed on the gift card.)

      • Is there any evidence the gift card has been tampered with? For example, is there a thin sticker or something else covering the activation barcode? (That may sound like a long shot, but it is a (very remote) possibility.)

If none of these help, I suggest you contact the gift card issuer first directly to check whether the gift card has been activated on their end.

      • +1

Thanks for this! Expiry date was the issue. All working now.

  • Kinda confused, does anyone know if I can buy the Ultimate HIM cards to use for supercheap?

    • +1

It depends on the physical Ultimate Him gift cards sold at the Coles you visit.

Supercheap Auto is being phased out of the Ultimate gift card scheme, as they appear to be favouring the TCN gift card scheme.

The following guidance from the FAQ outlines what the phase-out looks like:

Physical Ultimate (Visa) gift cards with [the Supercheap Auto logo] on the packaging will continue to be redeemable at [Supercheap Auto] and will continue to be on the Ultimate gift card exchange portal.

Any physical Ultimate (Visa) gift cards manufactured from December 2022 onwards will not feature [the Supercheap Auto logo] on the packaging.

The first sentence is based on what the Ultimate gift card website says regarding Supercheap Auto.

The second sentence is based on my observations of logos on the packaging of physical Ultimate Him gift cards. The packaging will denote on the back the manufacture date for the gift card (e.g. 12/22, 05/23).

  • +5

Can report the variable card works, points in a/c already.

    • Legend, thank you for the update.

    • +1

Yup, I can see them as well

    • Thanks for confirming:-)

    • +1

Yep. My points came through as well for a variable load card.

    • Yes I tried with 500$ birthday variable cards almost cover all the retailers best card ever

  • +1

Anyone bought thank you cards and got their points?

    • Yes I bought $100 home gift cards and two $500 birthday variable load cards yesterday and got 1x and then 19x points on them tonight.

  • Yes I bought $100 home gift cards and two $500 birthday variable load cards yesterday and got 1x and then 19x points on them tonight.

  • Did anyone tried is it 5 cards limit per day or for whole catalogue week ? Worth checking with $10 variable load card ;) on same flybuys account

  • Many things are different on here vs the sign, the sign does not mention a 5 gift card limit per account nor the variable load thing and the everyone cards do not have uber or uber eats listed on the physical card but online it does have uber and uber eats so its messy

    • the everyone cards do not have uber or uber eats listed on the physical card but online it does have uber and uber eats so its messy

      That is easily explainable.

Physical Ultimate gift cards are manufactured in “batches” (although Blackhawk Network rather confusing calls them “versions”). For example, one “batch” may be manufactured in December 2022, another in February 2023, another in May 2023…

Additionally, participating retailers are typically added to or removed from at least one type of Ultimate gift card every few weeks. Uber (and Uber Eats) was actually only added in late August 2023.

It also usually takes a few months for a “batch” to be sent (or dropped off) at a retailer, and even then, the retailer may choose to put that “batch” in storage and only put it out for sale later.

When you combine those factors, you can start to see how the list of participating retailers can become out of sync with the Ultimate gift card website.

Btw, the source of truth for participating retailers is the Ultimate gift card website (which is outlined in the gift card terms and conditions.)

      • yes i clicked the link and i saw uber there and i bought it and yes it turns out i got two different looking ultimate everyone cards

  • +1

Flybuys are unbelievable, I called them on Wednesday after 9am to confirm whether variable load gift cards are also included. They just called me 2 days later and left this message: " I was advised that variable load cards are NOT included". As I have purchased 3x $500 Everyone cards yesterday after I have seen confirmations here about points being received for various $500 cards, now I wonder what will happen with my points this evening. Purely unbelievable how Coles/Flybuys run their promos!

    • I did the same on their Facebook page, and they referred me to Coles Customer Care. I reached out to Coles on their Facebook page, and got referred to Flybuys for more details on points on variable load cards!

      • +1

And points were received, so I can confirm $500 Everyone worked just fine even though after 2 days Flybuys staff advised it is not included.

  • So variable load is confirmed qualify? Want to get $600 worth of GC, that will make things easy.

  • +2

Yep variable Load worked, 5 x $500 got 50k FB

    • Thanks.

  • I was able to split payments into $99 using hsbc on Thursday at coles on flinders. Today encountered different staff and they refused to split, making up rules of 2 card payments max

    • Went to Melbourne central and no issue with $99 split payment. Bought $500 birthday

  • Wondering if they sale variable load home card at Coles?

    • I doubt it.

I have never seen that stocked at Coles, including when I had a look at one Coles supermarket earlier today.

  • so hard to find Ultimate Eats gift cards these days, went to a few different Coles all OOS

  • Those who regularly follow the GC deals - how does this rate compared to most deals? I regularly shop at coles so points are practically cash but is 10% pretty much the best we get on high denomination cards for JB HiFi/TGG/etc? Have grabbed two I intend to use in the next couple days but wondering if it’s worth it to get another 3 of the birthday ones for future deals that may come around.

  • what are these variable load cards? and why are ppl buying so many of them?

    • +1

It is a gift card denomination where you choose the amount to load onto the gift card (although there is a minimum and maximum amount, e.g. $50 minimum and $500 maximum). For example, in this deal, if you want to load $420 onto a variable load gift card, you can do that.

There are some reasons why people would prefer to buy a variable load gift card:

      • Some participating retailers have hard restrictions on how many Ultimate and/or store-specific gift cards can be redeemed in one transaction. For example, if I am making a purchase from the Officeworks online store, I can only redeem 1x Ultimate gift card in one transaction, because Officeworks’ website cannot handle split payments between multiple Visa cards. There is no workaround (other than going to a physical Officeworks store), so if you want to purchase a $420 item at Officeworks, purchasing one variable load gift card would make more sense than trying to figure out how to redeem 4x $100 and 1x $30 Ultimate gift cards online. As another example, if I am making a purchase from The Good Guys’ online store, I can only redeem a maximum of 1x Ultimate gift card (and 2x The Good Guys gift cards) in one transaction. If I want to spend $1400 online on an item, I could purchase 2x $500 Ultimate gift cards and 1x $400 Ultimate gift card and exchange two of these for The Good Guys gift cards, meaning I can complete the purchase online. However, if I instead bought 14x $100 Ultimate gift cards (which is the highest denomination for fixed-value Ultimate gift cards) and tried to make the purchase online, I would be stuffed, and would either need to get The Good Guys’ sales hotline to fix it up, or go to a physical The Good Guys store.

      • Coles’ limit for purchases of gift cards is a limit of 5x gift cards per customer (which you usually see at the top of a gift card shelf at Coles, such as in this example), and a Coles checkout will not let you purchase more than 5x gift cards in one transaction. Some Coles staff interpret this limit to mean that you cannot purchase more than 5x gift cards and will therefore refuse to authorise any subsequent purchases. This means if you are wanting to spend big on Ultimate gift cards and limit yourself to small denominations, you may need to go through a different checkout (or even a different store) to purchase all the Ultimate gift cards you want.

      • Some people want to reduce the number of gift cards they need to purchase and redeem at a participating retailer, even if the retailer can theoretically handle the redemption of many Ultimate gift cards in one transaction. For example, if I was going to make a $3600 purchase instore at JB Hi-Fi, I would much rather only redeem 10x Ultimate gift cards than 99x Ultimate gift cards, especially if the JB Hi-Fi staff are not amused with me redeeming 99x Visa cards in one transaction.

      • Thanks for the detail.

1 question I have is, given the activation fee of $5/100, and $7/250 does that not cut pretty sharply into deals?

For example, if you picked up a few $100's if that's all that's left - have of your bonus is getting eaten into by the activation fee?

        Or am I missing something.

        • +1

Ultimate gift cards do not have any activation fees.

Considering you are quoting $5/$100 and $7/$250, it sounds like you are talking about Coles Mastercard gift cards. That is an open-loop prepaid gift card that is not necessarily restricted to a specific list of participating retailers or merchant types, so the gift card scheme owner (InComm) believes it is reasonable to charge activation fees to help cover the cost of running such a scheme. Other types of open-loop prepaid gift cards charging activation fees include Perfect eftpos gift cards, Activ Visa gift cards, Vanilla Visa gift cards and Westfield eftpos gift cards.

I know that there are retailer-specific gift cards that have an activation fee (e.g. Flight Centre), but it is unusual to see such gift cards have an activation fee.

  • Anyone know why i cant add more than one card to my ultimate account? The second card i showing "activation failed" when i try to check balance too…it showed the correct value before i tried to add it to my acocunt…

  • Hi, I am trying to use it online. But its showing error. Whats the exact expiry date. Thanks

  • +1

    Thats great. It worked. Thanks
