We have 2 of these, 65 and 75. Yes, they are on the heavier side, but they are pretty solid. Took these to over 20 flights in 2023 and not a crack, one of them is pretty scratched.
Very easy to maneuver even on European cobblestone streets.
Please find me a 100L polycarbonate case much lighter than 5kg.
If you're open to polyproylene https://www.myer.com.au/p/samsonite-oc2lite-hardside-75cm-sp… this one is 4.1kg
Polypropylene is cheaper and more flexible but has lower impact resistance compared to polycarbonate, which is stronger, more transparent, and more heat resistant.
I think for 800grams, go for the stronger one.
do costcos carry any samsonite not found on the costco site?
I remember they have $50 off promotion at the moment. $175?
interesting. do you happen to know if they stock the hifi and upscape suitcases? cheers!
They have very limited - 1 or 2 in display in my memory.
I rate the following from kmart , its only 2.7kg.
Granted its fabric soft so will get wet if left in rain on tarmack etc., but its very light weight and important for this website its super cheap at $79

Good find for those who don't travel often but need a big suitcase, and the reviews are ok too.
A few weeks ago i went to a luggage shop to have a look what different models physically look and feel like. I tested lots of them. All american touristers and antlers were very solidly built, but all samsonites felt very thin and flimsy. Probably thats why they are all lighter. But they didn't feel like they would survive too many baggage handlers.
I did not notice this model in store, so can't comment on current deal.
The Toiis C models are very good. Used to be my backup suitcase (primary Rimowa) and has done its job greatly through Pissport, Menzies, DNATA ect handlers
Pissport… LOL…Love it
Pay a little extra but save 2kg with upscape @2.9kg https://www.myer.com.au/p/samsonite-upscape-expander-spinner…
Hmm? Where'd you get 2.9kg? That link has the 75cm model at 3.4kg (still very good).
In terms of $ per weight for checked luggage, that's saving of about up to 4-5$ per flight ;) assuming something like $40-50 for extra 10kg or something like that?
Off topic but does anyone know if the fabric divider inside samonite luggage is covered by warranty ? Mine already torn badly from using the luggage for less than 5 times, really disappointed with its quality :(
4.9kg seems pretty hefty - I recollect someone mentioning that polycarbonate hard cases are more prone to cracking than polypropylene also
