  • What is better OP?
    G6 or X4?

    • On paper the G6 seems to be the better DAC though whether you can actually hear the differences between the two is another question

      x4
      114 SNR 24-bit / 192 kHz / drives headsets from 32 Ohm up to 600 Ohm

      g6
      130 SNR 32-bit / 384 kHz / drive headsets from 1 Ohm up to 600 Ohm

Saying that the G6 is more portable though the X4 has additional outputs if you were looking to also do a surround sound setup.

If I had to choose one I'd go for the G6 unless you needed those additional outputs

      • Beautiful, ordered G6.
        Thank you.

  • I have the sounds blaster G6 and it makes intermittent atrocious loud digital static noises when 5.1 Dolby is rendered. Known issue. Does the X4 suffer from the same problem?

    • I ordered the G6 which I should get Monday / Tuesday

Will let you know if I have the same issue.

Saying that I've had crackling issues with Dolby audio from my onboard motherboard DAC which mysteriously stopped one day. Assuming either software I added / removed or updated that fixed it.

    • I have used the G6 for a few years now and haven't had that issue. But I did have it with earlier sound cards. Could be a bad chipset, bad connection, or interference. Any analogue connection is prone to interference that causes static. Especially if you're pushing heavy processing through and amplifying the distortion.

  • +1

Haven't used the X4 myself, but the G6 is excellent. I have the GSX1000 and the G6, and the G6 is the best of the two. Paried it with the DT 990 Pro (250) and I have found that even though they are high Ohm, I can run it off high and low gain. The difference being that on low gain I can set it to 90/100 and be loud but tolerable. On high gain anything above 20/100 is deafening.

Also works excellent with PS5, if you can deal with running a long USB cable across your loungeroom. And as it's USB driven and adaptable, you can use it with your laptop or many other portable devices.

    • DT 990 Pro (250) good?

      • Yeah, if you're good with open back headphones. Great quality and excellent open soundstage. Just keep in mind that due to them being open back, you can hear everyone around you and everyone around you can hear sound bleeding from your headphones.
