I guess I'll just have to cop it. I should have bought it last time. Thanks op. 😊

    Thanks CodeXD :-)

  • +2

Is this not the same thing for the 170GB? Selling at $178.

    • Lol nice find
They have 2 separate listings too lmao

      Another one at $199.99

      • Yeah I saw that on the other deal, slightly dodgy if you ask me.

    • +7

You can add to cart but can't check out, payment method is disabled.

      • But you can use it to price match at office works :)

        • +2

          Price Beat*. ;-)

        • Went to OW, they will not price beat this one as you can't navigate to it. The only listing you can navigate to is the $200 listing.

          • @demuire: It worked for me, I just showed it was in stock and added to the cart. I did have to try 2 stores though.

            • @attalisie: I went to store and call online office. They don’t price beat with luck mobile.

              • @MichaelLin: First store I went to they said office works wont price beat any sim cards. Went to second store and no problems, just showed the link said it was lucky mobile and they did it

                • @attalisie: They have a list stick on the desk. They don’t match price with the store on the list. Unfortunately luck mobile on the list.

                  • +1

@MichaelLin: I must have been lucky then

                  • +1

@MichaelLin: Just price beat this again for a friend at the first office works that originally claimed they wont do sims. Depends on who serves you unfortunately.

    • Doesn't say expiry date.

    • when do I have to activate this by?

  • +2

anything for us existing customers? lol

    • +2

Can always port out then port back in

      • Which is the cheapest to port out?

        • Aldi is a good option.

        • +1

I usually buy a $2 SIM, port to it without selecting a recharge option during activation then switch to this.

          • +1

@TheAccountant: Which sim? I thought you needed to add a recharge aswell to it

            • @DoesntEvenMatter: I do Vodafone SIM if moving from Boost to Boost and a Boost SIM if moving from Vodafone to Vodafone.

          • @TheAccountant: Thanks… And how long do you port out for? 1 full recharge cycle? Or just for a few days?

            • +1

@starbearer: I port out for literally a few minutes. Once my Boost number stops working, I put my Vodafone SIM in and activate the new Boost number. Then switch to the new Boost SIM once the Vodafone stops working.

          • @TheAccountant: which $2 sim do you recommend?

        • +4

Tangerine currently offer 2 months free.

        • I usually buy a $4 Lebara sim at Woolies or Coles. The $15 light plan seems to go on sale at one of them every 2 weeks. They sometimes also come with bonus data. There are higher usage plans if you need them too.

Yes you could do it with a $2 sim, but with Lebara you can get a very cheap month of service semi regularly. You also do not need to give your CC details so you know you wont be auto charged when your service runs out.

        • +1

Tangerine is free for 2 months at the moment.

      • +6

I did this successfully a few times, then last time the porting glitched out and I spent two days dealing with the resulting mess.

So it’s a bit of a gamble when you’re only saving $50 or so.

        • +2

Agree, saving $4 per month is not worth the hassle.

        • +1

It took me nearly 2 months for boost/Telstra to sort out my port out and port back into boost. They kept asking me to buy boost $2 Sim and failed each time. Always blamed their back end system. Apparently 3 systems at their end needs to aligned successfully for porting. After numerous calls I was so angry and frustrated in the end.

          • +1

@he88388: Yeah this happened to me. Took 2 weeks to port. I had to fight tooth and nail to get a credit for the alternative sim I had to purchase to bridge the port.

          • @he88388: That's rough, sounds like typical Telstra trying to stop you from porting out and staying with them. Dogs

    • Just port out and in with a $5 aldimobile sim.

      • How long does the whole process take to get your number back onto Boost?

    • Yes, rewards for leaving them as usual

    • +5

How dare you ask for loyalty recognition

  • Let me understand this deal, if i active by 29/04/24 i get 170GB, but if i active later than this date say end of june, when my existing plan expires, i get 160GB?
since the sim doesn't expire til 2025?

    • +1

      Yep, that is correct.

However, the bonus 10gb was carried over from previous deal which said "activate by end 29 Jan 2024 for bonus 10gb" and then on 30th Jan they're like "activate by 29th April 2024 for bonus 10gb!"

If you go further back there was also a "activate by 27 November 2023 for bonus 10gb". So while I cannot guarantee that you'll be able to get the extra 10gb in June… If I was a betting man I would definitely bet on that you will.

    • +1

      Correct

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Got one.

  • I might call Boost to see if existing customers can get this deal.

    • +10

Buy it, then open a support chat saying you thought it was a recharge. They'll say don't make that mistake again, and then activate it for you without having to port out. I've done it twice so far.

      • +2

Ironically it's a legitimate mistake because Boost starter kit packs are everywhere, recharges are nowhere and they know this

        • Well, it's because it's 2024 and you just recharge using the app to be fair, no need to go to a store and buy a "paper recharge"…

          • @Binchicken22: Unless you’re a cash in hand tradie who doesn’t pay tax haha I rekon my barber would need a cash option

      • I've done this twice because nowhere on the pack does it say it's for new customers only - but last conversation with boost to make.this haopen was a massive headache. I suggest porting out first, super easy

        • What kind of headache? Like they refused to do it?

          • @nuts: They allowed it but I probably spent 20-30mins on the phone as the guy spoke to his supervisor etc. It wasn't really worth the stress. For a few bucks get a cheap SIM, transfer your Boost phone number to Aldi/Vodafone etc and then transfer back to Boost on their SIM. It's super easy

      • +2

Sadly doesn't work anymore. Did that in '22 & '23 without porting out, but this year went through 3 chat reps all saying the system itself can no longer do it.

End up getting this $4 Sim for 1 month use & they porting back to boost after. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/827538

For next time, hassle probably not worth the $50 saving.

    • I spoke to a boost CS today and was told they can't apply disccount for recharging any more

  • do they support 5G on their prepaid network?

    • +3

      Capped at 150Mps

      • +2

        Which is plenty!

        • +4

Faster than most people’s home “broadband” connections, haha

      • So if I can already get 200 speed on 4G where I Am, what’s the benefit of capped 5G? Is it more bandwidth ? More tower coverage ?

        • Lower latency

        • Actually theoretically, 5G has better capacity when you go some busy areas.

        • Main benefit is allowing you to run down your battery faster (I keep 5g turned off).

  • Full Telstra network compared to More telecom yeah?

    • +6

Boost Mobile uses the full Telstra network. Here, full is defined as a variable part of each tower’s capacity. So if you want the complete Telstra network, then only Telstra can deliver that

      • +2

Warning Boost coverage lately has not been great. I regular only get one bar and inside shopping centres i struggle to get 4g coverage.

Not sure what is happening to be honest.

        • +8

Boost uses the full Telstra network, but bear in mind that a Boost customer is only able to use idle capacity on Telstra’s towers. For example, if a Telstra customer is using, or wants to use, capacity on the network, then that traffic will be prioritised over any Boost connections. If a tower is congested with Telstra customers’ traffic, then that cell is effectively unavailable to Boost until the congestion eases

          • +3

@tharlow: Interesting, I know this sort of thing has been speculated for a while but I've never seen anything confirmed. How do you know this?

            • +7

@Binchicken22: Easy. Speak with unwavering conviction and you'll sound like an expert too!

              • @orly: Yeah it seems that way unfortunately… Upvotes both of our comments but no reply… So I think you are right, it's just an internet rumour that may or may not be true.

            • +1

@Binchicken22: I think I've read somewhere on ozb that they got Telstra and Boost sim and tested both of them at the same location on the same phone and got different network bars, it was higher on Telstra.

              • @CodeXD: Yeah but that's not necessarily scientific, in fact that isn't even what "tharlow" was referring to. That just sounds like the phones were connecting to different towers for whatever reason.

              • @CodeXD: Don't network bars measure only signal strength, not throughput? There's a free app called 'network cell info' that gives you detailed display of all the signal info available, that might provide a more useful insight if someone had both sims available to test with

      • +4

It’s why I left Aldi, whenever I went into somewhere busy like a Westfield, I would have 5 bars of Telstra and no data , couldn’t even bring up the cinema app to show my movie ticket had to use the centre wifi

        • That sounds like a bad DAS installation. Telstra are well known for that

  • Cheers mate :)

  • +1

what happens when you’ve exhausted all the data? Are you capped at a lower speed or can you purchase more data?

    • No lower speed, you will have to purchase more data.

    • +1

I ended up porting out to Kogan when my wife used up all data on 12 months plan in 8 months. I went for 500GB with Kogan (cost $200) this time which should be really hard to use up :D. You can buy more data with boost but for me it was a better deal to simply port out.

  • Shipping cost is missing in the title

    • +5

      Select free shipping (Australia post)

      • Found it in the long list of shipping options, thank you

        • Did you receive the sim card? Package or envelope? I have not received it yet.

  • +1

Has Boost finally gotten eSIMs yet?

    • +4

Extensive market research has determined that there is no robust demand for a Boost eSIM offering. Customers asking for eSIMs from Boost simply don’t understand that they will have lost interest by the time the relevant infrastructure is ready for prime time. It’s also the opinion of senior management that the excitement and expectation associated with discovering a Boost Mobile triple-SIM in your letterbox is a critical element of the customer experience which must be preserved at all costs

  • +2

Thanks OP. Ordered one for me and one for wife. Plans run out this and next month. Woolworths mobile.
